It is not a risk. It is a certainty. State intervention is guaranteed. Government will protect its Westphalian sovereignty from any self-sovereign on its territory. It will always corrupt a central operator. And some, such as the US, will use long-arm legislation and sanctions to extend their sovereign power beyond their borders.

You just have to HODL. Bitcoin will rise - it is a matter of time only.
I believe as we see lots of other crypto/blockchain projects fail for many reasons, Bitcoin will remain the true digital store of value.
Reasons projects will fail/lose include:
- poor management/governance  -- this also means that the project might be too centralized --   
- poor use cases
- bad architectural decisions that can't be fixed without lots of hard forks
- not really decentralized
- bad incentives / design (poor tokenomics)
- not enough community support
If a crypto/blockchain doesn't get all of these issues right, it will not succeed.

Politicians are middlemen that emerged due to our inability to maintain active social links with a large number of people; hence the need for representation. However, we must look at how we can use trustless systems to provide better governance, trustless representation and remove the middleman of politics. Just like BTC set the stage for a change in money supplies, we need to leverage trustless systems for a new political system.
