1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about James Rickard "btc as currency dies, but tech stays" scenario on: April 30, 2014, 07:54:02 AM
I read it as C) the currency dies in its current form but the algorithm/concept lives on in the form of other alts - not necessarily in existence yet.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the most stupid comment you've heard about bitcoin? on: March 11, 2014, 06:41:05 AM
"Bitcoin has no intrinsic value, unlike paper money"
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia may accept Bitcoin on: March 09, 2014, 09:52:49 PM
Wikipedia is centralization of information. Information should be decentralized too.

You're right of course but if you don't present a case or any arguments it just sounds like a case of "not invented here syndrome", hence the troll calls.

Back to the OP, Wikipedia accepting BTC would certainly raise the profile of crypto, we're talking about the 5th most popular site on the web, and certainly many non-tech types value it and donate IME.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Facts: Is Dorian the real Satoshi or Not? on: March 07, 2014, 10:34:59 PM
Another weird Dorian fact....

Love this quote from the AP

Asked if he was technically able to come up with the idea for bitcoin, Nakamoto responded: "Capability? Yes, but any programmer could do that."

How many people are really technically capable?  It has been suggested that there is only three hundred people in the world with the knowledge and skill to have done this.

As with the other "...not involved anymore" quote you have to put this in the context of the conversation, i.e. asking an engineer if he could engineer something is a pretty pointless question.

So we're still at: Proof: Zero, Conjecture: Off the scale.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition for iPhone wallets on: February 12, 2014, 10:22:39 PM

And a petition won't make a difference

You're kidding right? Petitions make no difference? http://www.avaaz.org/en/highlights.php or http://www.change.org/victories. Enough signatures and they will without doubt pay attention, companies like Apple take their PR very seriously.

The gotcha is you need to get in the 100k sigs mark which is difficult with something as niche as bitcoin, got to try though right? Oh and ditch/jailbreak your iToys too of course, you throw everything at them...

Think this needs a bump, only 5503 supporters? Get signing eh.
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: how long does it take for bitstamp to process international wire transfers? on: February 12, 2014, 10:11:04 AM
Mine have usually gone through at Bitstamps end in 48 hours + a couple more days to get to your bank account.

Well, check this out (http://np.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1r88vl/need_advice_on_inheritance_arbitrage_family_etc/) and then we speak about pain and slaughter.

I'm new around here but thanks for posting this link ... it really struck a chord as I managed to lose a bunch of BTC recently (though nothing like this guy!) trying to play the market game of selling high and buying low intra-day... thinking I knew better. Tough lesson to learn but in future I'll sit on my remaining stash and encourage anyone else to think long and hard before trying this.
