1  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Main Cause of accidents/road safety on: March 26, 2018, 08:38:17 PM
A lot of it boils Down to lack of attention or impatience, I think. We want to get from A to B immediately, we hate waiting around, and we are so distracted - given short attention spans brought on my social media and other platforms - that we suck at focusing on anything.
2  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Social Networks on: March 26, 2018, 08:33:48 PM
A feeling of security surrounding my data, ownership of data, privacy, and the likes. This is my biggest concern and makes me want to get rid of all social media full stop. But that is difficult to do, and I wish we could change this status quo where Companies have monopolies on our social data.
3  Other / Politics & Society / Re: communist and human rights on: March 26, 2018, 08:32:22 PM
Depends on what you mean, whether communists are also human beings and therefore have human rights OR whether communists support human rights. I think the former is definitely yes and the latter, I am not sure.. I guess they would support the values enshrined in human rights, for the most part, but consider an ideal society to be one in which these human rights are simply protected without need for law to do so..
4  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do Love really exist ? on: March 26, 2018, 08:28:36 PM
Of course love still exists but unfortunately greed and self-interest is more dominant. I think the problem lies in the fact that Companies and private actors are using psychological tools to play into the egocentric qualities humans have & discourage love and compassion
5  Economy / Economics / Re: What coin do you believe will be next to bitcoin? on: March 23, 2018, 10:44:04 AM
I suppose it has to be ethereum, no other coin has the same buy-in and infrastructure to sustain itself in the long run and scale up. At least if we think in the near future, the NeXT coin, it is the only option I see available
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Working smart vs working hard - an ultimate guide on: March 23, 2018, 10:42:26 AM
I am very happy to see that we are beginning to challenge these ideas that we should be working harder and longer. Because quantity does not at all equal quality. And in fact many creative processes cannot be subjected to the rigour of specific number of Work hours, etc. I am slowly trying to accept and understand that also, although I find it difficult and sense a certain guilt when I don't conform to the Work hard/long motto
7  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrencies aren't anonymous anymore on: March 23, 2018, 10:38:44 AM
I have always wondered about this anonymity question. I guess there is still a great deal of anonymity but it is not absolute. Indeed because many times you are asked to provide ID. But in any case, I have some questions about anonymity in the context of claims regarding transparency - don't the two contradict themselves?
8  Economy / Economics / Re: do you think bitcoin is controversial ? on: March 23, 2018, 10:37:03 AM
I definitely think bitcoin is controversial - but controversy is great! We need more people to challenge the status quo, disrupt systems that keep power concentrated in very small Group of elites. While there may be some problems with bitcoin and the crypto trends, the disruption will force the entire economic system to change its course and reform.
9  Economy / Economics / Re: Is an economy without physical money safe for the poorest? on: March 22, 2018, 09:36:29 PM
I see the safety question as more relevant in the context of access - would poor people have access to these Technologies in the first place, would they be able to take their technology to be repaired if something goes wrong? These questions worry me
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How important are ICO advisors? on: March 13, 2018, 08:00:33 AM
As a newbie, I have been wondering about this. Thank you for this post and useful replies. I had my suspicions about this trend, also. I Wonder what the alternative could be? Does anyone else think that there must be some flaw in the system or the way these new ventures are rolling out if this is the fact, that we cannot trust that the recommendations offered by advisers are genuine and not merely self-interested, based on salary and a chance of short-term returns.
11  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Quit Facebook on: March 13, 2018, 07:55:56 AM
I would love to quit Facebook. I can't stand it, it is such a time drain. My problem is that I need to keep in the loop with various Groups and events. Hence, I decided to kill my News Feed and disable all but necessary notification functions. Not a perfect solution, but feels damn good  Cool
12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is 90% jobless rate possible when robots are used everywhere? on: March 13, 2018, 07:54:46 AM
I certainly don't think a 90% jobless rate is likely anytime soon. Even if we Progress greatly with robotics and AI, we will need MANY more people than most imagine to carry out service functions related to those robots. And then, of course, it is unlikely that the robots will take all our jobs, at least for a long time. And certain jobs will remain in human hands (politicians, etc.). How to prepare for it? We are trying but in some sense it is futile to overprepare because we will certainly fall short and some Things will have to be dealt with as and when they become a reality.
13  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Have you experienced discrimination in the work? on: March 13, 2018, 07:47:28 AM
Certainly, I have experienced some discrimination due to age and sex. But it is usually more subtle. Such as that my views are not listened to, or that it takes a more senior person or man to reiterate exactly what I have said for someone to go, "ohhhhhh, excellent idea, well done"  Roll Eyes Also, many borderline sexual advances that were certainly not appropriate.
14  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is God male or female? on: March 12, 2018, 08:42:31 PM
Presuming god exists, despite all suggestions to the contrary, I would say God is both sexes.  Cool In various religious scripture, God takes on a male sex. However, in more ancient cultures, God as Mother Earth is depicted as female. I say, why not both..
15  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think of North Korea? on: March 11, 2018, 09:44:56 AM
Certainly, the world should be alarmed.. There is a lot we do not know about North Korea, and what we do learn, is very concerning from a human rights perspective, from a humanitarian perspective, and also from a security perspective. But there are other players to be concerned about, such as the US, and how they respond to these aggressive moves.
16  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe the news ? on: March 11, 2018, 09:41:10 AM
I do believe the news, to a certain degree, but I also take it with a pinch of salt. News articles likely paint a very one-sided narrow perspective on a particular topic. So while most news agencies and journalists are probably not lying, per se, there may be many sides of the topic that are simply not being discussed. Also, the selectivity surrounding which topics to pronounce on bothers me. I do not particularly trust news agencies' choice of what is newsworthy and what is not.
17  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you agree in death penalty? on: March 11, 2018, 09:36:41 AM
I do not agree with the death penalty. It is inhumane. As a society, we have to protect life. Besides, I think a life sentence, life term in prison, is more sensible in extreme cases involving very harmful individuals. A life sentence should be reserved for those people WHO really are harmful to society, though. Death penalties are being used in circumstances that are really not warranted (e.g. drug possession/distribution charges)
18  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are the causes of climate change? on: March 11, 2018, 09:32:25 AM
The type of climate change relevant for society at the moment is caused by human activities. There is a 97% consensus on that. Sure, there is natural climate change, and that we cannot do so much about. But the focus is on immense and rapid industrialisation, huge increases in emissions by humans, that is sending the climate system off its stable trajectory.
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How to manage water pollution? on: March 06, 2018, 09:12:48 PM
There is certainly the Means to tackle Water pollution but whether there is the political will or not is an entirely different matter. But it is so sad to see the terrible state that Water systems are in, and the impacts on species living there and human beings too.
20  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Online Dating on: March 06, 2018, 09:11:15 PM
Online dating is becoming so commonplace. I am not sure whether I can say how it affects long-term relationships. Surely, whether two people met online or in-person is not so relevant once they have met, as they continue to establish real-life interactions thereafter. The difference? It may be harder to meet people by traditional Means  Huh Roll Eyes
