the reason there are so many is because anyone can make them and they want a cut of the "digital currencies" pie that is all.
That's true, I should also start thinking about creating my own altcoins as well

I doubt there is any security measure that can 100% preventing hacking and such things, We all saw a real big sites got hacked and many of the credit cards info was stolen ...etc.
I'm not saying it's not important to have a very high security measures, just won't blame the site owner.

What characteristics should the alt coin have to be widely accepted and successful (or at least number 3 after bitcoin and litecoin)? If you have any ideas, please, share them here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=346068.msg3709017#msg3709017I'm doing my master thesis resaerch on this theme, so I will be very thankful for your opinions and help. This list will be a real long one I think, But I also would like to know which altcoins could be the next right after BTC and LTC.

Well, this kind of shit could happen to any of the merchants out there.
I have always founds BIPS to be a good service but unfortunately bad things happens...hackers should be blamed and not them.
I agree with you, and it already happened more than once before with others, It's impossible to stop such things, hackers will always find a way to make our day harder, that's the risk we are taking and we have nothing to do but to accept the fact as it is.

just like in everything else, there will be good people and there will be bad people. i don't think any of that has changed.
most people are honest, but a small portion of 7 billion people is still a large number.
I agree with you, although I actually think the percentage of bad guys isn't too small, but in the other side honest people still the majority, but wait even 10% of 7 billions are too much

I agree with statement, It's always good to have many choices, for now I think BTC and LTC are the most solid ones and also I think there are many good altcoins around, just days will prove which one will be able to survive.

Yes, There are always good and bad guys everywhere, I'm sorry for your lose and glad it wasn't big, unfortunately it's hard to stop hacking even if you have the best possible security, always hackers will find a way, that's so bad of course but it's the fact we all deal with and ready to accept the risk involved anyway.
Good luck with your business
