Sure seems to be concerted effort in some mainstream media to disparage BTC...interesting... C'mon, blocks...gotta pay my hosting bill on the Ice Planet...  I've had to slap down a few Wall Street Commentators re: Crypto. Oddly enough, Toby Smith, Jonathan Hoenig and Charlie Gasparino remain my friends... of course Wall Street Media is against crypto... it's taking their business model, and running off into the wild west of legality land. Ponzi is as Ponzi does and if you can get away with it so be it. They hate us. we get to do what they do, without all the regs. That said. This block is rough. I suggest burnt offerings at the 420 hour for luck! |

I think BTC is about done with it's downward trend. It hasn't touched it's low in over a week if I'm reading it right. A 1/3 value adjustment after that landmark runup is healthy for the overall market.
Let's get some discussion started about immersion cooling. I think that it may be a way to bring old equipment back into the fold, as well as bring operating costs down. I picked up a cheep S4 as my entry into mining and realize, that once heating season is over, I'll likely need to turn it off unless I can cut some corners on power consumption. I can run it half the year here, just as supplemental heat no matter how sad it's coin finding becomes. I think nearly 225w of my unit's overall 1300 is fans. With half a dozen empty aquariums in my basement, and a Sam's card where 20gal of vegetable oil will cheep... I can't help but wonder if oil cooling isn't the answer.
I plan on trying it out on some old equipment next month. Just an old mobo and old NVidia card that can just barely mine ZEC with it's memory/cuda count.... a 550ti I think. I will share my results.

... i found an entry in my password booklet. Kano was my second stop when I first got the S4, but I wasn't knowledgeable enough to figure out the setup back then. I had already made an account, as you said, with another password in December. I can be dense sometimes. I haven't been to slush pool. I don't know why, but it sounds sneaky. LOL. Historically, people aren't above the table with slush funds! I landed at BTC.COM and mined with them for a while before I started messing with altcoins. As far as I can determine, where ASIC miners are concerned, you make pretty much the same USD no matter what you mine, or there is minimal fluxuation. Once I learned about transaction fees though, and saw the action in the bitcoin market, I realized I needed to get back onto the non-altcoin bandwagon. Those who are declaring bitcoin dead, are buying bitcoin, is my determination. |

Does a drop in btc price usually mean a drop in hash power for btc and therefore a lower difficulty in the near future?
zzzzz I've been wondering the same thing today. I've also wondered if dives in prices like these might scare off the fainter of heart and maybe drop some hardware costs.. .lol |

If you set it up correctly it will say Your account is registered and ready to mine. It also shows the username there with _worker1 added on the end when you succeed. If you can't remember your password, use the password reset. You have to have a proper email for that to work. Moving that scale of an operation from China to Canada would hardly be a month downtime. I wonder what affect it would have on machine production as well though....
as I see it China takes all the cookies at the end of the party. they make the miners. they have the largest pools. when the legislation settles, bitcoin is ChinaCoin. i'd be happy as a pig in political office to be wrong. |

Are you working with your BTC address or your Kano worker name? If you are mining with only a BTC address, you don't get the full stats. If you want to see the full stats, mine with a worker name. If you mine only with a Bitcoin address you can view user and worker stats: e.g. http://www.kano.is/address.php?a=1KanoiBupPiZfkwqB7rfLXAzPnoTshAVmbhttp://www.kano.is/worker.php?a=1KanoiBupPiZfkwqB7rfLXAzPnoTshAVmb_workerAn example of mining with a worker name for you would be something like: URL stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 Worker philosothink.s4 Password x [/quote] I have not been able to get kano.is to actually let me log into the account it told me I created and gave me worker info on a popup congratulations message. I've brought my little S4 to kano and have been reading thread. I've seen some screenshots of the website that show features I don't see? Worker stats, account info, etc. Am I doing something wrong or is the site undergoing growing pains?

you should consider putting in a -ghostriderrocks [0-100] which would direct that percentage of the mining to your project. When you need new hardware we could just put out the call for miners to dedicate an hour to you or something like that... count me in. None of the coin from my AMD rig would be coming my direction, without your dedication to the project.
my humble little rig in the basement is a pair of rx580 4gb cards, and i have an r9 nano on the way to join them. This rig is running a GTX 1070ti.
I'm just kicking myself in the backside for not getting into mining sooner...
