1  Economy / Economics / Re: Study says being rich is determined by chance rather than intelligence or talent on: August 22, 2018, 03:02:09 PM
To create that chance, you need to be smart and hardworking. A lucky person might succeed but  a hard worker will definitely succeed.
2  Other / Meta / Re: Is the Merit System Generating Enough Merits? on: March 10, 2018, 11:49:52 AM
I don't think this was because of my thread. I believe that Theymos is closely monitoring the merit system and would know if there isn't enough merits. He probably was waiting for the default merits to dry up before increasing merit generation.

We will be able to connect the dots only after seeing the future changes. But I must say that it must have took a lot of time for him to plan all this. Many people are worried about loopholes being exploited (like members being able to send merits to alt account) but I think this is all intentional on his part. It would be interesting to see the future announcement he is going to make regarding this. It should happen within 1-2 months as per my expectations.
3  Other / Meta / Re: Merit points possible outcome on: March 10, 2018, 11:46:08 AM
So I think there is no one would like to share their opinions.

I think you need to have some patience. If you want  a reply to your query (which is already answered multiple times in meta) in 10 minutes after posting your thread, this is not going to happen. Also note that the members are helping you for free and most of the senior members are here just in their free time only. If you cannot wait for some time to get a response, how will you be able to survive the shortage of merits (merits getting halved as per your opinion). Regarding your question, there are merit sources who get some merits to spend every month.
4  Other / Meta / Re: Signature bounties and Merits on: March 10, 2018, 11:42:10 AM
How do the signature bounties affect to the merits? I had participated a signature bounty and during that time I did not receive at least one merit. Honestly, during that time, I had to post more posts (to meet signature bounty requirement) it affected to the quality of the posts. But I didn't receive any merit for the good posts (according to my knowledge Smiley). By the way now I'm not participating any signature bounty will see if I get any merits without a signature.
Do you think Signature bounties affect to the bounty hunters merit?

That will have no big affect in my opinion.

1) If you are posting good content you will keep getting merits for it irrespective of if it was posted before or after the merit system.

2) If you are a shit poster, that habit is hard to give up even if you got lucky to get accepted in a signature campaign. Still you will not get merits.

A lot of other factors need to be considered like when merit system was introduced, members got a lot of merit points by default and thus posts made during that time had more chances of getting merits.
5  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 10, 2018, 11:38:54 AM
I know that this is the intention, but it's not how it works. Equating working hard and smart with the possibility of gaining merits, is not reality. There are way too many great posts out there which recieve no merits while weak posts receive several merits. The causality that's being claimed here, does not hold on average

You will have to rule out the cases where merit system is being abused. Weak posts getting merit points is clear indication that alt accounts or friends are involved in this. Many of those cases are being reported and those members will stop doing this because of actions being taken.

Regarding good posts not receiving merits, that is a valid concern in my opinion. We need to increase the number of merits allotted to merit sources per month. There should not be a situation where a merit sees a deserving post but has no merits to give to it.
6  Other / Meta / Re: [List] Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0 on: March 10, 2018, 11:35:40 AM
I would like to add a member here :

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1515261

He got 4 merits from the same person. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1515261

These are the two posts that got merited:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3069750.msg31790718#msg31790718

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3073480.msg31962122#msg31962122

There are only 4 merit points involved here but it looks suspicious seeing the post for which he got the merits. Those 4 merits spent might be all the default merits that https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1567811 got.

7  Other / Meta / Re: It's all about merits. on: March 10, 2018, 11:30:44 AM
Not only merit is required to rank up, we need activities to there's so many thread's about ranking up you may read them all, but for now the merit system is the hardest thing to rank up. There is a required merit and activities to rank up.

Activity requirement had been there before the merit system and is much needed. One should be a member here for longer time to be able to enjoy the benefits of senior ranks. Merit is not the hardest thing, it just requires the members to work little smart. You need to focus on areas where there is less competition for merits. For instance, I see a  good probability of getting merits if you are doing analysis of stats related to the forum. Many of such threads got rewarded with good amount of merit points by senior members here.
8  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is negative trust working? on: March 10, 2018, 11:26:41 AM
I do not have enough experience with the trust system here but it is not good to allow members with negative trust (especially those with 2 or above) to participate in these campaigns. I understand the one negative trust might be possible due to some misunderstanding or revenge being taken but if someone has multiple negative trusts, the profile is suspicious. Only a campaign manager can tell the exact reason for such members being allowed to participate. One reason I can think of is that they are not getting enough participants with neutral trust because of multiple campaigns running.
9  Other / Meta / Re: What to do when you see someone copy pasting content ? on: March 10, 2018, 11:21:28 AM
Recently i am seeing many people copy pasting contents , is there any way to report to the mods?? Please take it positively.I am pretty new in this forum. Thank you.

There is report to moderator option for this and you can report such posts. There is permanent ban for such members who are doing this frequently. If the member has done it 1-2 times and is new, you may consider dropping a pm to him and mentioning the forum rules. Some might not be aware of the forum rules and doing this by mistake. Someone also created a thread reporting these incidents but I cannot find it in the meta section right now as it is pushed back.
10  Other / Meta / Re: Members applying in merit campaigns without being eligible on: March 10, 2018, 11:19:03 AM
That's the fact, current 'disease' of signature campaigns in the forum. I hope that merit system will stop this disease.

Merit system has nothing to do with these members applying for signature campaigns without being eligible. This happened before the merit system as well. Another reason I can think of this is that some members might be feeling that their lack of requirement might get overlooked by the campaign manager. They need to understand that these managers are being paid for the experience they bring to the process. In one of the comments someone mentioned that it can be because sometimes the requirements are relaxed seeing the posting history. This should not be done if we want to put an end to the practice OP is highlighting.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: someone was hurt ? on: March 10, 2018, 11:06:25 AM
hello

yesterday i  had created a new topic with this

title  : 'do you still believe ...... ? '
Content   : ' do  you still believe that there is no one in control of bitcoin ?'

and he got more than 4 answer pages in less than one hour,  but i cannot found it today  Roll Eyes Shocked Grin Grin Kiss

why it has been removed ?

did i hurt anyone ? did I touch anyone?     Smiley Smiley

I ask to publish it now !

jal007.

Someone was not hurt. Moderators might have deleted if they found the content repetitive or of no use to this forum. Try to use search function from next time before posting a question. If a similar question is asked in the past and you repeat it, there are chances it will be deleted by the moderators.

Regarding your question that "no one is in control of bitcoins", it is true to some extent. But I think big investors are capable of manipulating the price to some extent. They can create huge price drops by selling a fraction of their holdings.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to Binance and Bitcoin a few days ago! on: March 10, 2018, 11:03:23 AM
Though harmful, but this is still not as much dangerous as it can be if the exchange itself gets compromised, and we have seen that happening before as well with quite well-to-do exchanges. People surely have to keep their funds out of the exchanges whenever they are done with trading, everyday. Keeping your funds in an exchange for the purpose of trading again can cause you a big loss if something happens within the exchange.
One way of being safe from phishing attacks is using the mobile applications of the exchanges. You will face no such problems with the app as there you are not opening a website which minimizes the risk of your credentials being stolen.

These incidents are really scary for me. I am planning to keep investing in bitcoins for 4-5 years and not afraid about the volatile prices. Even if I make loss at the end, it is acceptable to me. But loosing my investment because the my exchange being hacked is something that I never want to happen. I keep money in different exchanges to eliminate some risk though. You gave a good advice to app and I am always using it. The desktop versions of my exchange do not allow to see a lot of options like trading history and volumes being traded at different prices.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If the virtual currency does not have a payment function, what does it mean? on: March 10, 2018, 10:56:34 AM
If there is too much public opinion about a thing, then most of this thing has a demon.
If everyone wants to make money through the blockchain, it means that the chances of making money are no longer great. The redistribution of wealth has never been to everyone's share. Calm down and think carefully. The virtual currency that is now being favored by the public is represented by Bitcoin. If there is no payment function, what meaning does it have in addition to speculation? Why is the use of blockchain technology all talked about is not focused on the application of virtual currency in retail payment?

I am also not big fan of this thing called "store value". This store value should be based on real life application of that thing in case bitcoins. Suppose, you are going to buy a company. How will you determine the appropriate price for it ? It is based on average monthly earning for last few months, presence of other competitors, future growth possible in that sector. You will not pay $10000 for a company just because everyone calls it amazing. Same should be with bitcoins, if it has to be valuable for long term, it should be known for being the most commonly used payment medium and not an investment option.
14  Other / Meta / Re: Does merit really helping the forum. on: March 09, 2018, 04:44:38 PM
Some say the merit system has been implemented has a very good impact. because post spam is gone
others say that the merit system has failed. There is harassment with the merit system

You know, both are correct at same time.

1) Merit system has good impact for the forum. It has reduced the spam here considerably and even new members are making more detailed constructive posts. A lot of members came up with useful threads like stats and images for new forum rules.

2) Merit system has failed as well. Since the spammers are seeing all doors of getting away with spam posts and ranking up here on forum, they are using such terms for the merit system. They think that the decision will be reversed if they do so frequently.
15  Other / Meta / Re: MERIT SYSTEM PROBLEM on: March 09, 2018, 04:40:14 PM
I think it will be a good idea, My suggestion is maybe they can add assistant moderator in this forum which having a huge amount of merits that can distribute to all deserving. We also know that moderators are busy and maybe this is the answer to that issue. Assistant moderator will be a big help to lessen people's that abuse merit and it can enhance efficiency of the whole forum. It will be a tool to balance the system I guest.

I like it the current way only as it ensures that members are involved in the betterment of the forum. However, I think that number of merits in circulation per month need to be increase a lot . It should be at least 10 times the current supply and this can be easily done by allocating more merits to each merit source per month. I was able to get some merits when the merit system was new and I think it was from the senior members who must have given default merit points. Now that most have spent those, there is shortage of merit points in comparison to that time.
16  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 09, 2018, 04:34:46 PM
in a way this system is good to prevent spam. but i would make some changes to this system. like stated in another post above,  i also think that is hard to achieve the merit ranks, especially for the newbies. i would bet that an old member would give more merit to older members than to newbies. this is basic psychology and also in the endgame, a older member will expect more merit from an older member then from a newbie. why? simple. a full member has lets say 200 merit and 100 merit to give a way. a newbie has 10merit and 5 merit to give away. so what do you think of whom you will have greater chances to receive merit?

and btw this is not my original account. my original sr. member account got hacked so now I am a junior Smiley

First did you try to recover that account by following all the required steps.

Now regarding this behaviors that you mentioned is something related to expecting merits from the member to who you are giving. I am not a senior member or one with any friends here but I think that human emotions may compel some people to do so. One should still ensure that the merits are being sent to deserving posts only. May be the admin makes changes to the system so that new members can also earn merits easily.
17  Other / Meta / Re: Relaxing video for rank system and how to level up easily on: March 09, 2018, 04:27:07 PM
You did a great work spending time to create this informative video and I hope other members make good use of this. Some suggestions:

1) Those ranks and requirements shown there have very small font. Even with large YouTube window, it is difficult to read it. I  guess users will have harder time reading on the  smart phones as it will appear smaller. If you can make that font bigger it will be better. I am talking about font that appears at 0.18 and 0.56 in the video.

2) There are some small grammatical mistakes like at 1.05 it should be activity means "how frequently you post " .
18  Other / Meta / Re: Members applying in merit campaigns without being eligible on: March 09, 2018, 03:34:00 PM
...
People are joining everything nowadays without reading the rules anyway.

I think they are using bot for registered on any opening signature campaign.
It is possible right ?

I do not think that this is possible. A bot will not be able to read the thread and thus determine if the campaign is open or not. New members doing might be because of ignorance or not being aware about the rules. So far as senior members doing this is concerned, only reason i can think of it is a purchased account and they are not experienced with the rules of the signature campaign. The seller might be selling these accounts with promises that you will get accepted in campaigns and so they keep applying in all open campaigns.
19  Economy / Economics / Re: let us promote BITCOIN on: March 03, 2018, 03:45:32 PM
I found there are some podcasts on bitcoin, they are very good stuff to promote bitcoin.
I am listening some of them now on my way to work.
The "Bitcoin Crypto Mastermind" hosted by Tai Lopez is a good one, here is the link (http://castbox.fm/channel/Bitcoin-Crypto-Mastermind-id1108208)
The "CRYPTO 101" is also a good one. (http://castbox.fm/channel/CRYPTO-101-id973054)

Thanks for sharing these but I am not fan of podcasts. If you give me an option to choose from, I will always go for videos. I have subscribed to a number of YouTube channels and see them when my schedule allows.

The videos have a number of advantages over podcasts. For instance, if you are seeing a tutorial on how to use functions in a particular exchange, that can be understood only with the help of videos. Podcasts can be confusing as well. I also find these videos to be entertaining and thus it keeps me hooked to the videos.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy in your country on: March 03, 2018, 03:35:51 PM
Bitcoin situation in my country is not rosy yet especially with our Government where some of our so called leaders are full of cruel acts and would not want to allow an unregulated entity in the economy. I can only affirm that few of us who are knowledgeable and users of Bitcoin are still the one enjoying the potentialities of Bitcoin. Hopefully, it shall be gaining ground because so many are already getting to know what Bitcoin entails.

In my country also bitcoins are not being used by middle class or poor people. Most of the rich people are only investing in bitcoins as they have lot of savings to spend on it. On the other hand there are millions of jobless young people in my country. Leave about bitcoins, they do not have enough money to start a small business. If the government takes enough steps to provide jobs to these young people, we can see a lot of them investing in bitcoins in future. But I think these politicians are just concerned about their vote bank.
