At this point it's obvious blockchain has an insane amount of useful scenarios.
What do you think it is about blockchain that makes it ideal for for a stock photo platform?
I'm still interested in learning more about the teams thoughts on this. Sorry for late reply, but thank you for the question. So the most prominent thing about blockchain is that it allows transactions to be peer to peer. The problem with current stock photography platforms is that by uploading a photo to them, you are in fact giving your right of ownership over to them and then they have the rights to sell at their own price, decide on licensing type etc... With our p2p platform you keep the ownership of your own images, thus being able to set your own pricing and your own licensing type. Also blockchain allows speed of payment. In many existing platforms, you are paid once per month for all the licenses sold during the month. But why? Again this comes down to you no longer having ownership, so you are in fact invoicing the stock photography platform for a royalty fee. Blockchain allows instant payments in a matter of seconds. Blockchain also allows better copyright protection services. In current stock photography platforms, a manual team of people and compare if photos are copies of each other. However, this is time consuming and expensive. Blockchain allows each uploaded image to be analysed and compared to each other image in the decentralized database in a few moments to check for copyright infringement. A decentralized digital chain of ownership is maintained and therefore any image uploaded not by the indicated owner is immediately known. All this improvement in services is what allows fees charged to photographers to be reduced from as much as 90% down to as little as 5%. Blockchain essentially automises, transfers data more efficiently and helps keep track of ownership much more effectively than existing systems can. Dang I honestly didn't expect the reasoning for blockchain to be so solid as this. You've fully laid out not only why it could work, but why it's obviously an eventuality. The ownership of your product is of utmost importance. Speaking as not Photochain, but as an individual, the reason I joined the project was that it was one of the most complete blockchain business models I had ever seen. Not something way in the future either, something for the here and now - and to disrupt an existing business that is more than ripe for decentralized disruption. Yes very good use of blockchain. Actually after picking up some tokens next is waiting period for the crowdfunding to be completed. That news skipped away of buying 25millions tokens by UAE crypto fund which is plus point seeing big investors taking interest in this project. A total of 20% of hard cap has achieved already though it should have been much more seeing the concept.
Yes agree - I wait too. But I really believe in this project and believe they will still raise a good amount in the ICO |

One of my favourite projects right now. Rather than putting supercomputers, AI, robotic doctors with twin lasers (insert your own silly thing here), they are putting something simple like photography on the blockchain.
Photography is something that can be easily managed by a blockchain it is still digital pictures only. I believe because of the use case, that Photochain will be able to deliver technically, rather than your crazy mad-scientist like projects of the semi-far future.
It is the perfect use case for blockchain technology - as a test bed for other projects. If they reach a good mass within their own niche, it will be a simple, yet elegant success of the technology. They are not trying to be too ambitious, more smart than that.

Also they must see a long term growth for this project - as a fund’s business model is about making good investments for their clients. So they are placing a lot of confidence in Photochain.

We have closed the first big funding deal during our main sale, as a crypto fund based in the UAE buys into our project. The fund has acquired 25,000,000 PHT tokens — 13.9% of total tokens available — plus an option to acquire a further 4.6% of PHT tokens. In the stock photography industry, photographers are often paid less than 25% of the revenue of their sold works, and usually have to wait weeks to receive their relatively small cut. They are also unable to set their own pricing, and are locked into agreements that may not fit their needs. Copyright issues are rampant and if you are unlucky enough to be caught up in a claim, a resolution may take weeks.
The good news however, blockchain technology can change all this. Blockchain allows the creation of a decentralized and democratic marketplace for the fair buying and selling of photography. A decentralized marketplace connects buyers directly to the sellers, where their own prices can be set. Photographers deserve much more freedom to sell their works on their own terms, as they are the ones who know the value of their work best.
Transactions also can happen in seconds, far outpacing the weeks and months other photography marketplaces take to pay creators. Photographers take home 95% of their works’ earnings, as smart contracts verify and validate each transaction, thus removing expensive middlemen.
In the fight against copyright, blockchain based hashes of photographs can be used to link a photo to its rightful owner. For a photography purchase, the shared license means that the hash is linked to the legal buyers as well as the owner. This link exists permanently in the blockchain and leaves a trail of ownership for every single photo that moves through the platform - so that illegal use of an image is easily traceable. Furthermore each uploaded image can be scanned against the existing database of photography hashes for copyright infringement also.

What do you guys think about Photochain? Seriously it's a good project, with a good use case. Plus they have a working MVP so they'll be quick to market. I have inside knowledge and I know that they are making good progress on deals and partnerships. But the problem is lack of traction in their ICO - which is super strange considering they are top 5 rated on ICObench premium.
What do you guys think about them?

The one project I watch for a long time is Photochain. I think they have good product, with a user base already there in photographers. Clever idea and execucion. Good team and great advisors (Roberto Capodoeci, if you know who he is!!) and they are winners in many start up pitches. I say in long term that this will be not just a great ICO but also a great business in near future, so if you miss out in token sale, if you want to get involved in future you will buy tokens on exchange for much much more price.

How are you guys different from your competitors? There are few of photography projects coming up and I'd like to know what would make a customer choose you over the others.

i watch this project for long time and why i think they are different is becase they are giving a full platform to buy and sell photography. there platform is desinged around photographers but other projects like Selferry are not. i think this project has the best understanding of what photographers want and how to give it to them. this is my opinion but lets see what the team says @photochain - please tell us |
