1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core upgrade on: August 20, 2022, 10:04:31 PM
https://bitcoincore.org ist the proper website for Bitcoin Core and genuine downloads for it. It looks like bitcoin.org isn't kept very up-to-date with respect to downloads anymore.

These are versions you missed out (see at https://bitcoincore.org/en/releases/):
Bitcoin Core 23.0
Bitcoin Core 22.0
Bitcoin Core 0.21.2
Bitcoin Core 0.21.1
Bitcoin Core 0.21.0
Bitcoin Core 0.20.2
Bitcoin Core 0.20.1
Bitcoin Core 0.20.0
Bitcoin Core 0.19.1
Bitcoin Core 0.19.0.1
Bitcoin Core 0.18.1

You can update step-by-step, but it should work if you immediately update with Bitcoin Core 23.0. It won't need to re-download your blockchain data, it will be preserved. Always verify your downloads of Bitcoin Core properly!

To be sure, an immediate update with the most recent version of Bitcoin Core is OK, I'd recommend to read the release notes of all intermediate releases. If there are some changes to the database structures or so pointed out, you may want to update with such intermediate releases first.

Seriously, v0.18.0 and v0.18.1 were released in 2019, we're now in 2022. It might be better to check for new versions in shorter time frames.

That's great, thanks for the clarification. It's a bit confusing with the way the versions are numbered, for example they go from a version 0.21.2 (which is less than 1) all the way to a full-numbered 23 now. Just semantics I guess.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core upgrade on: August 20, 2022, 08:58:33 PM
And also, noticed on this site links to a version "23" which goes to bitcoincore.org download, whereas version 22 is at bitcoin.org.

Which is which?? Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Core upgrade on: August 20, 2022, 08:51:04 PM
I am currently using Bitcoin Core version v0.18.0 (64-bit) on Windows. Noticed there is a Bitcoin Core 22.0 available now. Couple questions:

1) How did Core go from a .18 version all the way to 22 versions?
2) Can I upgrade my current .18 to 22 and still keep my current chain or do I have to download the whole thing all over again?

Thanks!

**edit- whoops, this thread should have probably have been put into Bitcoin Technical Support section.

latest BP core version says 1.4.4.5

I am using 1.2.0.1, is this why I am getting "no block source available?"

Do I have to delete my old version and install the new one? And then move my wallet to new directory?

I am on Linux 64 bit.

thanks.
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why there is no Bitcoin Core build for windows 32 bit? on: July 07, 2019, 01:27:52 AM
It was removed under the assumption that few or no people were using Windows 32-bit.
Ok. There's the better part of 100 million 32-bit Windows users. So when are we going to see 0.18.0 available to us??

**edit: or the assumption that that there are little to no users running Core on win32 bit?

Hi,

Went to load my biblepay, but it's not syncing because it's out of date. Currently running version 1.1.2.4

Using Ubuntu.

How to update/upgrade it to current version 1.1.5.6? I've tried everything, nothing works. ie. as per http://wiki.biblepay.org/Ubuntu_Packages

and when I use

git pull origin master

I get:

fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

Have also tried apt-get update and apt-get upgrade from the biblepaycore directory, to no avail..

Thanks!

I used these directions to update successfully:

https://launchpad.net/~biblepay/+archive/ubuntu/stable

You can compile your own biblepayd but there's more steps involved. installing the package is easier and faster.

Used those directions, updated successfully. Thanks a ton!

"New info escalates importance: upgrading to 0.16.3 is REQUIRED"

Does the entire blockchain have to be downloaded again now??

Learning as I go folks! So no, as I found out, an upgrade does not require the blockchain to be downloaded again. Once downloaded and unpacked, the upgrade is really just the bitcoin-qt file plus a couple more files. Basically copied them into my bitcoin folder and viola! everything runs just fine.

Thanks,

v1.0

p.s. new core version released today:  v0.17.0

Addresses are public, but typically no one knows which one or ones you are linked to,
Once you know someone is linked to an address then you can use the explorer and look up:
how much money they currently have in that address, how much has been sent and received,
and the full transaction history, you can dig deeper and find out what other addresses may be linked to the address.

This is why I am a fan of coins with privacy features, and because BiblePay is a fork of DASH, we have it's Private Send / Coin Mixing functionality!
https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/comments/8avfaj/privatesend_coin_mixing_denominations_increased/
Thanks!--> just discovered about explorer from reply from macko20 when he posted his address. Pretty neat! Yes I've noticed the Private Send feature, and thanks for the Reddit link!

Its mostly true about Rosetta, we are basically using the CPID and Magnitude as a pow botnet buster, by requiring a valid signed CPID and for the miner to be in the last superblock (with magnitude) in order to effectively heat mine.  The exception is if the block is over 15 mins old then anyone can mine.

So yes, you have to have a CPID that started receiving payments and then your RAC technically lasts about 30 days or so before diminishing to a miniscule amount, so you could technically run Rosetta@Home a couple days and month and heat mine fully per month, if you really wanted to do that, but its a lower ROI than cancer mining.
Ok, appreciate the clarification. Now I just have dissect your answer to fully understand the jargon, but I get the gist of it. Well, off to back up my Biblepay wallet now.

Again, thanks guys.

^ It arrived!! Phew...I was so worried because it wasn't even showing in "Pending" status in my Biblepay Core client. But then suddenly it arrived.

So, regarding asking for someones address, so because it's public that means there is the ability to trace transactions I suppose, to see where the funds might have gone? You would need the originating address as well as the receiving address?

Problem#2--> Cannot mine anymore without Rosetta account, can anyone confirm? Is that what that CPID_SIGNATURE_INVALID is all about?

**

Again, to be clear, my BBP tx from Southxchange to my Biblepay wallet has completed, this is no longer an issue! I jumped the gun and should have been a bit more patient.

Hi- having a couple of issues, some help pls!

Problem #1:

Withdrew my BBP from Southxchange to one of my BBP addresses in Biblepay core, but nothing is showing up whatsoever in my wallet! Not even in pending. Southxchange is showing tx confirmed. Checked and double-checked the address for any typos.

To pay the fee, did I have to have existing BBP in that receiving address? Because I just assumed it would be taken out of the BBP transaction itself..

Problem #2:

Logged into my biblepay pool2 account to check my worker status, it is saying CPID_SIGNATURE_INVALID. What the heck is that??

Many thanks!

What wallet version are you using?
Thankyou for reply- my Biblepay version says it's 1.1.1.9

What is your wallet address?
I received bbp from Southx without any delay now
Hi- sorry, is it safe to give out an address?
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BiblePay | Masternodes | Sanctuaries | POBH - ASIC Resistant | 10% ORPHANS on: April 14, 2018, 10:58:59 PM
^ found a response on Reddit that claims mining without Rosetta is no longer possible. Is this correct? Because I have never created a Rosetta account. Which might help explain my Problem #2?

However, there is still issue of not receiving my BBP from Southxchange..very worrying. Basically I withdrew XXXXXX amount to my BiblePay address. It showed fee of .01 would be deducted from receiving address. So transfer has been confirmed on Southxchange end, but nothing whatsoever is showing in my Biblepay core wallet! The wallet is synced up and running.

Do I have to remove the mining config seeing as I'm not on Rosetta to a default setting?

IMO...

BBP is the tithing of the future for churchgoers. What an amazing dual purpose it would serve, the Church gets their tithe via BBP, while helping the charitable organizations at the same time..I really don't think this would be a complicated system to incorporate into churches, most of them have internet connections nowadays w/ wifi, and most folk carry their phones with them as well into the church.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core blockchain impossible to download now, too slow and too big on: March 17, 2018, 08:12:58 PM
Also, invalid transactions seem important to understand. I want to know what kind of reprocussions it causes in the ecosystem, if any, or do they just eventually filter into non-existance?

They almost immediately filter into non-existence.

Every node on the network verifies every transaction it receives before it adds the transaction to it's own mempool, or relays the transaction to any other connected peers.

Therefore, if anyone tries to connect to any nodes and broadcast an invalid transaction, every one of those connected peers will reject the invalid transaction.  It won't be accepted into their own mempools, AND it won't be relayed to ANY other nodes.

Furthermore, if a node is found to be repeatedly sending invalid data, then the nodes that it is connected to will close that connection so that they don't need to repeatedly check invalid data.
Excellent- thanks!

Taking this a bit further to rejected transactions...on another altcoin I was mining (not bitcoin, as individual users no longer can mine), apparently I mined my first block ever ( super excited) and got paid, it showed the number of coins I had in my wallet. But then apparently the crypto "forked". I had to upgrade my software to continue mining. However, after the upgrade, my payment for my newly mined block disappeared! I inquired to the sysop about it, he responded that likely my new mined block was mined during a "fork", thereby rejected by all the nodes I was attempting to connect to.

If this is inappropriate to ask about in a bitcoin thread, by all means just tell me I wont bring it up again. But I'm thinking perhaps the same thing could have occurred in the past with Bitcoin itself during a fork? Mined blocks would not be valid?

***

So, after a couple weeks of testing, ie. having my wallet and the entire chain offline on a removable drive, than plugging in and starting the resync all over again, happy to report ( I know I know I'm preaching to the choir) that everything works perfectly! Both times Bitcoin Core has synced back up to the network and brought the chain up to date even after being offline for a week. So---I can happily say that: It is NOT impossible to download now, but still is definitely too slow and too big! Smiley
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core blockchain impossible to download now, too slow and too big on: March 17, 2018, 08:02:50 PM
the main gripe is that people cant really spend their funds until the chain is uptodate. which can be days-weeks to set it up

if only there was a smart dev that could think of some simple solution..
like

an uptodate UTXO set of (lets say current blockheight minus 1) gets its own hash. and that hash is set in the current block data.
making the UTXO set of 1confirms+ verifiable as part of block checks

thus people can then have their wallet grab a very recent UTXO set FIRST. so they can actually go ahead and spend their funds, the same day.
after all sending out a tx using the UTXO set wont hurt the network. if it contains a input that is actually spend or non existent it wont get relayed/accepted into a new block anyway..
What is holding back implementing this kind of idea? There must be trade-offs of some sort, otherwise it would have been done by now?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BiblePay | Masternodes | Sanctuaries | POBH - ASIC Resistant | 10% ORPHANS on: March 12, 2018, 01:36:47 PM

But now something terrible has occurred. My mined Biblepay is gone! There was a mined block that my computer did, and it payed me over 7,000 Biblepay for it. Even though I am using the same wallet, all that Biblepay is gone!

However, when I delete the new chainstate/block folders and add in my old ones, it all comes back. But then Biblepay does not sync up! Even with the nodes you gave me! So it's either I use the new nodes and delete my old folders, or I keep my old folders but cannot use Biblepay!

Aargh! What to do guys?

As long as you have the original wallet.dat, after you resynced, if your balance is 0, that means you mined the BBP on a fork.  BBP mined on a fork is not really valid BBP.

That explains why you had trouble syncing, your wallet was on its own chain, and other nodes were banning you.

Just ensure you have the original wallet.dat in place, then go forward from here.

Ahhhh! Well, thank you so much for explaining it- I truly appreciate it! Ok, so if its not valid than its nothing to be concerned about, and I will keep on keeping on. Obviously I still have a lot to learn about forks (and why I just can't use a spoon)(joking joking).

And yup still have my original wallet, so all is well.

Thanks again!

Hi- wondering if you can help. I've been using Biblepay with its GUI program through Linux Ubuntu, and mining through an account at pool2.biblepay.org. All has been going seamlessly, until today. I upgraded my Biblepay version because last time I logged into my pool2 account it said we have to upgrade to version 1.1.0.1+ in order to keep mining. But now after the upgrade, it no longer syncs, says "no block source available". It also keeps asking me for my wallet password when I load it for "PODC updates" which I have no clue what this means.

Can you please help me resolve this, or point me to a tutorial of sorts?

Thankyou

You can cancel the password prompt, its just for PODC (Cancer mining).
See this for cancer mining:
http://wiki.biblepay.org/Distributed_Computing_2

So, first please ensure your system time and timezone is correct.  A lot of people cant sync if the time is off by more than 2 minutes....

Then resync.

Yes, validated the system timezone and time is correct. Not resyncing or showing progress. Did I have to change something in my wallet configuration file to go along with the update? Currently it looks like:

addnode=dnsseed.biblepay-explorer.org
addnode=dnsseed.biblepay-explorer.org
gen=1
genproclimit=2
poolport=80
pool=https://pool2.biblepay.org
workerid=****(hidden)

Can you delete the chain and re-sync.

And try these instead:
addnode=node.biblepay.org
addnode=biblepay.inspect.network

Delete the chain?? Do I have to rebuild the entire chain now just because of an upgrade, or is it because of the node change you suggested? Or is it to maintain integrity because of the node change? I'm not sure how to delete the chain, I suppose I just dive into my Biblepay folder and find it there?

Thanks again.

I'm just saying if your in a hurry, it only takes 5 minutes. IF you don't want to try the nodes I posted.
I took your suggestion, deleted the chainstate and block folder (not before backing them up), changed the addnodes, and booted up Biblepay again. After only a few minutes, it download and resynced again!
