1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I put money in my Bitcoin wallet? on: December 21, 2018, 03:58:23 AM
How do I put money in my Bitcoin wallet? It isn't accepting my Bitcoin address for some reason, so I don't know what to do.

I’m not quite sure what you mean here, I’m confused.

You first need to use an exchange to buy the Bitcoin which is held in a wallet on your Exchange account. You can then send that to your personal or “cold” wallet by using the public address or QR code.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does it mean to buy on the Dip? on: December 21, 2018, 03:38:47 AM
For your typical "hodler", a dip is simply just a drop in price. I'm sure only a very small percentage of the "hodlers" are actually decent traders, so if someone says "buy the dip", then chances are, the person just said it just because the price dropped a certain percentage. Always remember that bitcoin and the cryptocurrency markets are hugely unregulated, so expect a lot of amateur "investors" in this space. Not to mention that "buy the dip" is also being used as a meme nowadays since the bear market started, when people thought price $x was the floor, but it continued to drop lower. Buy the dip!

So refreshing actually having a good well-thought question here in Bitcointalk.

Yeah I definitely agree. Back in January is when I started investing and thats when the dip started. As the prices dropped I seen oppertunies to buy at a “discount” when it was infact going to plummet far more. I hadn’t spent any time learning about technical analysis or anythingas to why this was happening. I just thought it was a Sale for Crypto. Now come the end of the year and I have been studying charts etc.

It is very useful to learn these things, aswell as looking into the projects and teams behind all these coins and not just investing in them because they are “popular” or because they are down 50% in the last 30 days. Look at the whitepaper and the team, see if there are any legitimate, solid members in the team.

I can now say that after doing these things it has made me invest a lot more cautiously and I just wish I done that sooner rather than later Smiley
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Investments in the Stock Market now better than that of bitcoin on: December 21, 2018, 03:31:06 AM
If you are afraid with the high fluctuations of bitcoin then you can play safe with stock, I dont see people talking about this when bitcoin price keep on getting up, investing in crypto and stock is a different things, bitcoin got high risk with high reward and it is a decentralised investment, stock is more predictable, price is not the only factor why people decided to invest in bitcoun

I seriously don’t think there is a stock you can play safe with right now. Even the Lifestretegy funds etc for minimal risk. I really think by 2020 there will be a massive dip in the stock market and property market. Especially in the UK, ever since 2008 the price of stocks and housing has just went up year by year.

Not to mention over in America there is talks that the Federal Reserve are going to increase rates that would obviously have devastating affect to these countries that are trillions in debt.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoin seem to always rally in December? on: December 19, 2018, 10:19:21 PM
I wouldn't call it a rally until a little bit more progression occurs. I really hope it does become a rally though Smiley.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is "Money Out of Thin Air"? on: December 19, 2018, 11:19:27 AM
If anyone is making money out of thin air, it is the banks. They are lending and using oney that doesn’t even physically exist to make more money for themselves. Its getting to a point now where it is on the verge of collapse. If the federal reserve raise the rates then it could cause a worldwide crash of markets. At least with Bitcoin, you know what the maximum amount is that will ever be circulating in the world. It cannot be manipulated by centralised persons or groups either.
7  Economy / Speculation / Re: Underlying BTC problem on: December 19, 2018, 02:03:38 AM
The biggest problem is hodlers want to more people to put money in so the price goes up that makes sense.  What doesn't make sense is holding all the way down to the bottom again.

I disagree, If you look at the charts there are massive selling volumes that outweigh current buying volumes. This is factoring into the price and making it drop..
8  Economy / Speculation / Re: Investments in the Stock Market now better than that of bitcoin on: December 19, 2018, 12:26:22 AM
Although theres a good chance day traders could make slight gains in the Stock market regardless of the upcoming crash, I strongly disagree with the stock market being the place to go right now. From what I have seen, 2019/2020 could potentially be a bloodbath in the stockmarket which has been slowly regaining every year since the 2008 crash basically. With Crypto already through the vast majority of the dip (apparently), this would be the PERFECT time in my eyes to cash in on a slice of my Stock Portfolio and invest in into my Crypto Portfolio. Then after 2019 when (hopefully) we see recovery in Crypto and possibly a dip in Stocks, you could change to sell and reinvest into stockms again if you wish so. This is my personal insight and investment strategy going into 2019 good luck Smiley
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: Investments in the Stock Market now better than that of bitcoin on: December 18, 2018, 10:46:54 AM
I completely disagree here. The stock market is at a point where it is on the verge of complete collapse and is due a crash. I think the complete opposite. People should be selling a good position of their stocks before it crashes and maybe putting it into Crypto Smiley
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giving 4 Newbie Members a Chance to Rank Up To J. Member on: December 18, 2018, 01:41:58 AM
I would have loved to have applied Sad
Yes, like Fenya96 said, you wouldn't qualify since you are a Jr. Member in the making. As soon as you have the needed amount of Activity you will be upgraded.

Yeah I understand, hopefully if you lower it for next round I will qualify as I am about to hit 28 activity Smiley
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin and Crypto For Newbies on: December 17, 2018, 12:42:18 AM
No, I am only illustrating the method to use when transacting. I use a different VPN but always pay with bitcoin.

But remember.

TYPE THE LINK DON'T CLICK the LINK
I agree with your advice on this matter.
Certain times addresses can appear very similar and deceptive to the eye especially if you are in a hurry. A very good example is the clone phishing website to this forum. Sometimes when I was searching for results, I ended up with Bitcointalk[dot]to link instead of Bitcointalk.org.
what mostly saved me were warnings from cryptonite, Netcraft and Metamask extensions that I had installed on my browsers.

Edit
And thank you for the info about those services that are paid in Bitcoin. I have always looked for such services in vain. I will definitely try out one of the VPNs when my subscription for this one is done. It would be perfect if I got a good antivirus whose packages are paid in bitcoin too.

MyEtherWallet also do a good job of warning you about phishing sites and telling you the correct steps to take to avoid using them. Personally, I just make sure I am on the correct site then bookmark them on my browser so I know I am avoiding them.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we need bitcoin in the modern world? on: December 17, 2018, 12:02:52 AM
Bitcoin is here to make transactions made online easier and faster. It introduced a peer to peer system which eliminates the third party system in terms of sending funds to anyone at any part of the world and it is done within minutes.

Not to mention that it eliminates the sheer inconvenience of having to use native currencies when travelling abroad. If Ethereum is your gig, you can use it from anywhere in the world (apart from any countries that aren't allowing crypto of course Smiley )
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giving 4 Newbie Members a Chance to Rank Up To J. Member on: December 16, 2018, 11:33:20 PM
Sorry for posting here as you expect replies from Newbies only. But I'm surprised that there are 0 replies on this topic 5 hours since you started it. And then people complaining that's difficult to get Merits, there is discrimination against Newbies and etc. Now they have great chance to get easy Merit, but seems that nobody whant to get it. Why? Maybe these people who are usually complaining don't have any quality posts to show...

Yeah well that is probably because the Activity requirement is 50+. There will be many more Newbies with a lower Activity like myself that would love to apply for this but 50+ is quite high. I would imagine by the time someones Activity gets to that number, most would have gained enough merit to rank up already. Not sure though, just my opinion. I would have loved to have applied Sad

Maybe my requirement for the activity level of 50+ is the problem. But I intentionally used a higher activity level requirement to try and award Newbies who have been here for some time and maybe have had their posts overlooked in the past.

Why don't you make it the joining date or something then instead of Activity requirement? I'm not sure, just a suggestion Smiley. I'm sure there are plenty of Newbies here that meet your criteria and just haven't came across your post yet.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Somebody sended me weird MMS.I think that person wanted to hack me!! on: December 16, 2018, 11:23:25 PM
There is a simple answer to this...

If you have received a "weird" MMS from an anonymous source, containing any sort of link etc which you are not sure about at all. The last thing you should do is bother clicking on it. They usually like to lure you in with an offer or giveaway of sorts which sounds too good to be true (because it is) just to get you to click the links. Delete the message and dont click the damn links... Roll Eyes
15  Economy / Speculation / Re: The real reason BTC price has dropped on: December 16, 2018, 11:10:27 PM
If anyone is truly bewildered by the massive drop in Cryptocurrencies over the last year then they clearly can't be familiar with trading in general. Anything in any market (stocks etc), that soars up in price in the fashion that these cryptocurrencies did, eventually need to face a correction (in this case 80%+). It is healthy for the market actually, it could never withstand the pace that it was going at.
16  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: trezor or ledger nano for a beginner ?... on: December 16, 2018, 06:39:33 PM
As someone that has been into Crypto since January this year, I am of very low experience when it comes to trading. I have used most of my time looking into the projects for certain currencies and what to look for in the project and its team that indicate green lights or red flags. The actual trading aspect of it I am definitely a beginner. However I bought a Ledger Nano S on Black Friday sale worried that it was gong to be a nighare to first, set up and get working, secondly use to hold my different coins.

However, after reading a few informative pages on the Ledger website and a single Youtube video, I had enough of an understanding on how to set it up and fully work the device. I am so glad I purchased one, I know that now the vast majority of my funds are in one of the safest wallets in the Crypto space. I fully recommend buying one as they arent as complicated as expected and they are rapidly adding support for more and more coins.

They are currently 30% off for Winter Sale right now so this is your oppertunity to purchase! Smiley good luck!
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain guides for beginner on: December 16, 2018, 06:28:32 PM
I much prefer watching Youtube videos and podcasts because they are more enjoyable to watch and are still educational and capture my attention more.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain guides for beginner on: December 16, 2018, 02:16:36 PM
Andreas Antonopoulos' "Internet of Money" is a decent read. I heard about him on Joe Rogan's Podcast a couple years ago and gave it a shot. Smiley
I'm just going to add for the people who doesn't like reading but prefers watching: Andreas' "Internet of money" is available in video form, on YouTube.

Yea, I need to know more about what blockchain is. I still not quite enough understand it.
Read the articles from https://coindesk.com/information. That's the guide compilation I always suggest to people new to bitcoin.

Oh I didn’t even know that! I downloaded a PDF of his actual book but would have probably just watched them instead if I knew about them! Wink
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No Christmas gifts this year, all my money in Bitcoin on: December 14, 2018, 03:21:13 PM
I feel you. Have little bit of the same situation. Bad time to sell as well. Just need to hold and wait till the next bull run happens. Which is eventually going to happen, but just need to be patient.

Happy Holidays anyway and remember it is a good thing and no need to get let your head down. You still got your family and have fun with them. Presents are not the most important thing  Wink

Cheers!

Thanks, you are right! Family first!  Smiley
Yes, family first and I respect the fact that you chooses to invest into bitcoin which was good decision but the part of you investing all your money into bitcoin is something which is not acceptable because it never a good investment habit which is why people are advised not to invest more than they can afford to loose.
`

Totally agree here, it is not healthy AT ALL to have all your eggs in one basket like this. Especially in this premature stage when your full savings are going to be swinging erratically in price. Don’t get me wrong I’ pro Bitcoin in the long run, but I have only invested into it what I can comfortably afford to lose and not have a detrimental effect on my life.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we need bitcoin in the modern world? on: December 14, 2018, 02:57:02 PM
You can pay for things also with credit cards and the transactions are fast but we do need bitcoin because it is part of the modern technology and when it will be more popular and it will develop even more, every people will want to have it.

The Bitcoin debit cards are really fun and easy to use aswell. They are also easier to use abroad aswell. Getting paid and paying things abroad with normal debit/credit cards is tedious and a lot of the time your bank blocks your card and thinks you are victum to fraud. These Bitcoin debit cards are much more successful to use.

Wirex and Cryptopay I think are the main ones and I’m sure they support USD, GBP and EUR.
