2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Op-ed: Cryptocurrency Is Emerging as a Mainstream Asset Class on: June 09, 2018, 09:26:34 PM
As is often the case with disruptive tech, the early stages are filled with criticism and disdain. Entrenched industry players hold firm to old ways (remember Kodak and the digital camera revolution?).

That has been a huge part of cryptocurrency’s history and still is, though to a much lesser degree. Cryptocurrency has shaken up traditional banking, investing, and monetary policies. It will mark a different point in the history books. One of the most interesting footnotes will be that the crypto revolution started with a coin where the original creator was a mystery and stay that way while its marketcap expanded exponentially.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin the “Last Thing I’d Want to Own” if Grid Goes Down: Short Seller on: June 06, 2018, 12:43:29 AM
Cryptocurrency advocates often tout bitcoin as “digital gold,” but famed short seller Jim Chanos said that BTC is the “last thing” he’d want to own in a full-blown crisis.

Chanos, who rose to fame by predicting the collapse of US energy giant Enron, made this claim during a recent interview with the Institute for New Economic Thinking.

4  Economy / Speculation / Hedge Fund Manager and Market Technician Agree Bitcoin Has Found a Bottom on: June 01, 2018, 11:31:34 PM
Pantera Capital Management’s Dan Morehead and Fundstrat’s Robert Sluymer believe the worst is over for the bitcoin price. Bitcoin has fallen from glory in 2018 and is currently hovering at about the $7,400 threshold after racing to nearly $20,000 in 2017.

Morehead, whose hedge fund Pantera Capital is dedicated to investing in bitcoin, altcoins and [Suspicious link removed]panies, is urging investors not to miss the boat and to buy bitcoin at these levels. Hedge fund traders know how to uncover opportunities in just about any market environment, but when a cryptocurrency market technician echoes a similar sentiment, it’s got the makings of a trend.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / From JPMorgan to Blockchain Startup: Amber Baldet Unveils Her Latest Project on: May 19, 2018, 11:57:34 PM
Former JPMorgan blockchain lead Amber Baldet unveiled her new startup project, Clovyr, at the Consensus conference in New York on Monday.

Baldet left her position at JPMorgan in April to work on Clovyr. She led JPMorgan Blockchain Center of Excellence and helped the firm succeed with open-source initiatives, such as Quorum. In a strange juxtaposition, her successful tenure at JPMorgan coincided with CEO Jamie Dimon’s bitcoin bashing.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / IOTA (MIOTA) Teams up with Canada’s Kontrol Energy Corp. after Samuel Reid gets on: April 30, 2018, 10:25:12 PM
The rumors surrounding a potential partnership between IOTA (MIOTA) and Kontrol Energy first popped up back in March. Now, more hints are leading to a certainty regarding such a partnership and Mr. Samuel Reid and a company named Target are involved.

Samuel Reid embarks Kontrol Energy’s advisory board

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Under The Skin – Why People Are Using Subdermal Microchip Wallets on: April 15, 2018, 02:22:36 AM
Dutchman Martijn Wismeijer is very cautious when it comes to storing Bitcoin – so much so that in 2014, he had two NFC (near field communication) chips surgically implanted into each hand to store his encrypted Bitcoin keys.
Wismeijer stated a number of reasons for the drastic method of storing crypto, saying he had lost the majority of his Bitcoin over the years to exchange failure, hacking, and theft.

“I can safely say most of the bitcoin, more than 80 percent, I have lost due to hacks, thefts, exchanges gone bad and other problems. If I would’ve had the chip in 2010, I’d probably be a rich man by now.”

10  Bitcoin / Press / Bitcoin: What’s Behind The Major Price Spike on: March 06, 2018, 12:12:43 PM
Over the past week, bitcoin has seen its price spike over 12.5% to around the $11,500 level clearly outshining other major cryptos.  Is this a coincidence or is there something more important going on.  If this action had occurred last summer, the explanation would have been that bitcoin was just part of the unquenchable thirst of the public to own cryptocurrency.
But these days, we believe that lots of the purely speculative phase is behind and that fundamentals will play a more important role moving forward.  The recent bitcoin action provides some support for this theory.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Markets Update: Long-Term Signals Suggest Bullish Bounce Imminent for BTC on: February 04, 2018, 06:56:05 PM
Many technical signals are indicating that the BTC markets may experience a bullish move in coming days following several weeks of heavy selling. Despite longer-term price action and stochastic RSI suggesting an oncoming move up, the immediate price action tells a more tenuous story – with BTC currently testing a critical area.

Longer-Term Technical Indicators Suggest BTC Bullish Bounce May be Imminent
The price of bitcoin appears to have established support at just above the $8,000 USD area, after having lost approximately 60% percent of its value from the all-time high of roughly $20,000 posted on December 17th, 2017 on Bitfinex.

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 12 Reasons Bitcoin Cash is the Real Bitcoin on: February 02, 2018, 07:17:27 PM
So you’ve heard of Bitcoin Cash — one of the top cryptocurrencies along with BTC and Ethereum. But why does it exist? Is it a cheap copy of Bitcoin? A pump-and-dump scheme? An attempt to hijack the brand and attack Bitcoin? In my estimation, the opposite is true. Bitcoin Cash is everything that Bitcoin was supposed to be, before it was taken over by a small group of radically minded “Core developers”, largely through propaganda and censorship.

13  Economy / Exchanges / Likely Additions to Coinbase in 2018 (Ripple, Monero, and DASH) on: January 31, 2018, 10:17:14 PM
Coinbase, unlike most exchanges, features solely four coins. Their app and website are simple to use for those inexperienced in the trading/investing field which makes them a favorite among the population. If you can predict the next coin to land on Coinbase, you are likely to see an exponential jump in asset value upon announcement of that specific coin’s addition.
