In case of failure, I will get my money back Wink

big test with the US government looking at SilkRoad.

I read Cryptomonicon in 1999 and jumped on the EGold bandwagon...

the US government was sure about to throw a spanner in the spokes
on that one...

this one has a bunch of Gaming fanatics joining the cryptoheads so
we'll see how it goes....

the market is still to illiquid for real trading..$30 to $10 during the weekend
too much...

I will stick to the swiss franc, norwegian krona, aussie dollars, and south african
rand for now....

Still anyone who mined their first bitcoin will have reason to jawbone the market.
it serves as its own means of self-justification
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: June 12, 2011, 08:43:32 PM
I found out about BitCoin 2 weeks ago.

The day after I found out about it I was already mining.

I am a programmer but learning about Gaming Hardware.

Seems those with a background in building Gaming Hardware
have the edge, so not exactly a level playing field, but all the
info it out there for those who look.  It would be more difficult
for a hardware head to learn programming

Pretty straightforward stuff, but want to get into liquid cooling to
increase overclocking

Early Adopters or Early Mainstream....

Looks like this thread may have started a pre-market frontrun of psychological resistance @ $10

pretty thin market, interesting how the rumor mill can cause a $12 move....

Glad there was a pullback, otherwise would get concerned about things
getting overextended.

Noticed that the psychologicall $10 level was frontrun
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newbie Question : GPU processing cycles, electricity resource on: June 06, 2011, 03:11:02 PM
oh so the processing power is used to keep the network alive?

As I understand it, the bitcoins are hidden in hashes, which the GPUs decypher.

If you could point to where I could read up on this to better understand this I would appreciate it.

I see GPU mining compared to Gold mining...so in a way it is like expertise in building Gaming Machines
is developing value like Mining skills are valued in Australia.

Right now a bitcoin is saying "I made my computer decypher x.xx TB of hashes" that is why I have
value...with Gold you got a rare element and silver something that is used to make catalitic convertors.
Paper Currencies of course are just debt issued by governments that are broke but have militaries,
police and other centralised authorities ie. power which they will cling to with iron-fists even if they
are broke.  The bitcoin is also backed up by the power of the crypto community.

Thinking out aloud here a bit.

OK thanks for answer....

I understand the machinations of the Federal Reserve and it's Quantitative Easing programs
and other Central Bank's printing money and the dynamics of Money Supply only too well.

It seems however that the algorythm could be linked to Global Grid Computing initiatives
that would supply raw computational power to worthy causes while still generating the
BitCoins.

A win-win situation one would think.  Make money and help solve some of humanities problems.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Newbie Question : GPU processing cycles, electricity resource on: June 06, 2011, 02:05:35 PM
I am new to BitCoin and I have one question.

It seems that BitCoin miners are using alot of computer processing power
and electricity to get these BitCoins...but is anything utilised from all these
expense?

I know it is processing hashes or something like that...but isn't this a bit of
a waste?  I mean there are alot of Global Grid Commuting initiatives...couldn't
all this GPU cycles and power spent running these machines be put to better
use?

The amount of GPC cycles could still be monitored but the computing power
could be allocated to one of these causes?

Perhaps there is some other function that goes on...but it seems like a bit
of a waste of not only GPU but also the energy to power these machines.
so perhaps we could make BitCoin more ecological
10  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I wish I never started mining on: June 04, 2011, 12:29:53 PM
I have traded Forex for the past 5 years...and the feelings you have all the time.

Sometimes you think..."the euro will gain against the Dollar but I will wait a little
while until I see some momentum or a fibonacci retracement is hit"...then other
things happen, you get distracted you come back and sure enough the euro is
2 cents higher versus the USD.  Dam I knew it would do that, why didn't I get
in??

Such thoughts are not productive, as you are stuck in the past, and it will make
you miss the next opportunity just around the corner.  You have to have
self-compassion, forgive yourself, be gentle on yourself, you don't have  a
crystal ball, you are human, you can make mistakes.  Those who always want
perfection actually seem to be less happy than those who know there will
always be randomness in life.

I just found out about BitCoin yesterday although I have been interested in
digital currencies for years, even getting scammed on E-Gold paying for
conversion services and never got my money.  Was told that there was no
way to get a refund, all transactions are final...scammers heaven.  I am not
about to buy these highs, personally I would rather learn to mine or find some
way of adding value to the community....eventually I will buy.
11  Economy / Economics / Re: we just hit 10 USD on: June 03, 2011, 05:57:09 PM
perhaps the bad Non-Farm Payrolls data is weaking the USD compared to BitCoin
