1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative Block Chains : be safe! on: February 04, 2018, 01:08:25 AM
With so many opinions out there, how many have actually taken their own advice and moved their coins to cold storage? I struggle with the idea of having to move coins on at a regular interval when wanting to trade. I suppose it's way more applicable to those that have a long term hodl strategy, but for short term or regular traders what is the recommended method?

Thanks

I'm pretty much just coin collecting, but regardless Ive been duping everything to paper wallet and both printing the PDF and storing them on a thumb drive.  One of the altcoin wallets I was using was fine until I installed another one (both clean etc) and they fight each other and I'm freaking out.  I find it relatively ironic that I'm printing paper "money" to keep my digital currency safe hahahaha.

Regardless of what coin I'm going after, holding, and why...I'm papering it.  I fix computers and phones and whatnot for a living and I know how terrible these things I can be. I also know how terrible people on the internet can be.  My safe at home doesn't crap itself full of unrecoverable data, nor does is it affected when someone elses safe is broken into on the other side of the planet.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Just started ghetto mining, going after low end altcoins. BTCZ, HODL, what else? on: February 04, 2018, 12:57:45 AM
I just started mining, have no real interest in bitcoin itself. Having a blast going after low difficulty coins just to collect.  Started with ZEN but was slow. Found BTCZ and bringing in (what I feel) is a bunch and seem to do well with Equihash. Just started serious HODLing today as well.

What else is out there thats generally worthless but easy to get? I'll move on to harder ones once I put together an actual GPU rig...fight now its just a 4820k running a 280X and GTX 950. Have HODL running on 2x i7s and a few i5s.

Have a Sun X4600 4x octacore (or is it 8x quad?) AMD Opteron 3GHz and 128GB of DDR1 (its an old box) that I suspect might do real well with HODL? Or is the CPU architecture too outdated to be useful?   It has 6x PCIe slots too which may come in handy w/ risers, but if the CPUs can't do HODL in the background while the GPUs are running, I'm not using a 4U rackmount to power a bunch of junk video cards :/

Thanks in advance, and Hi!

Do you think it's risky to leave the wallet unencrypted?
What's the procedure to encrypt it?

thx in advance)

My wallet was fine until I started using the HODL wallet on my machine, now my btcz wallet corrupts constantly. I freaked out the first two times, now I backup before exiting. First chance I can I'm dumping to a paper wallet (if theyre available) because this is BS.  I'm NOT encrypting the wallet on my machine because I feel that will ruin my chances of having even a _slightly_ functional wallet...so I'm just going to switch to something different completely if at all possible.
