Fair enough

2. I'm currently on the default "stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333".
As the closest sever to me is "stratum+tcp://uk.kano.is:3333" would there be much of an advantage in switching to the closer server?
A little detail would be good as while I realise pings would be important in something like online gaming but I don't understand how mining would matter much.

Thanks
The time your share gets to the node, is the time used to decide if it is stale or not.
If the node is closer, you'll get a somewhat lower stale rate.
It is done that way coz I wanted it to be that way - the reason is that once a 'block share' gets to a node, it is immediately submitted to the bitcoind at the node, so your share's 'staleness' is defined by when it can first be submitted to a bitcoind, not when it gets back to the main back end server.

Ok thanks.
Can I just confirm if I switch over to the UK server I won't loose anything shares-wise or rampup-wise (if that's a word)
I still appear to be "ramping up" after 5 days mining and don't want to loose anything.
The 'ramp' is related to the time frame over which you have submitted shares to the pool.
It's basically a misnomer, but is easiest to explain it that way.

All nodes are part of the same KanoPool so if you mine to any one of them, you are, of course, sending shares to the one and only KanoPool Smiley

Perfect thanks.
New to PPLNS so just needed to confirm.

Two quick questions:

1. Why does the Kano.is website log you out so quickly? It boots you after only about 10 mins.
20 minutes
Since an account is often more valuable than a typical bank account, I take the security very seriously.

4  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Is balanced mining still possible on an Antminer S9 on: March 30, 2018, 05:41:18 PM
Ah, ok.
So Balancing is really switching by a different name where your asic would point for 90 sec out of 100 at pool A, and then disconnect to spend 10 seconds pointed at pool B.
I didn't think it worked like that at all.

Thanks for the info ccgllc.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I thought the whole point of balanced mining was there was no switching.
You simply point 90% of your power at slush and 10% at Multipool, in my example.

I think you used to be able to do:

90;Stratum X
10; Stratum Y

To make it work, simple as that, no switching involved.
Even if I could point 1 of the hashing boards (33.3% of power) it'd be something.

Maybe I'm confused as to how it worked as I never actually saw it in operation.
If I'm wrong in what I describe above I'd love to hear more about it and if it's possible.

Thanks

Hi -  Any one know where to get new software for Bitmain Antminer S9 Firmware upgrade made by zwilla.de ? It seems to be disappeared...

It can change Antminer S9 to use CGmininer… a TAR file image..  anyone ? please help, I just now repair some S9 , and need the file..

You can try here but I don't think S9's can be downgraded anymore.
If you manage to get it working post back here to let us know.

7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Is balanced mining still possible on an Antminer S9 on: March 30, 2018, 12:38:29 PM
I’m new enough to mining and I’ve looked everywhere to try and figure this out but I think at this stage I need to ask here as someone will know. Here is what I’ve gleaned so far if someone could confirm.

1. Balanced mining used to be possible on older firmware. (Cgminer)
2. BMminer replaced Cgminer on newly shipped (2017 onwards) S9’s.
3. Cgminer was required for Balanced Mining.
4. Putty was required into Cgminer to do the load balancing.
5. The latest firmware prevents you from downgrading to Cgminer.
6. Nobody has found a solution to this as of yet.

I’ve looked at these two threads below but they’ve gone dead, I assume because of point 2 above.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395721.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623672

I really would like to point 90% of my power to Slush pool to mine BTC and 10% to somewhere like Multipool to mine BCH, DGB or other altcoins.
If anyone can confirm the above and let me know if there is a solution I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks

Holy SCHNIKES!  The secret frequency page URL is true!  I just added "/cgi-bin/minerAdvanced.cgi " after my s9s IP address.

However you get a pop-up warning.  Hence, my question is... what does that "It will take about 3 hours on search frequency before mining!  Are you sure?" I have never seen this before.

This is my 1st brand new factory sent Antminer - on any of the half-dozen used ones I have had, I understandably never had such issues, due to others having already over/underclocked.

Please advise.

Same here.
I can get to the advanced settings page but I don't want to touch it as there's no "Auto" in the drop down list to change it back to.
My frequency in the drop down list is set at 550.00M and with that setting the boards themselves are at 631.95, 639.50 & 640.36 freq will all hashing at about 4.6 Th/s.

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: March 08, 2018, 01:59:22 PM
Looks like my order of 2 s9s has shipped a week early.  Was supposed to be March 11-20.  Nice!
I received my PSU last week for March 11-20 shipment, but the S9 (same shipping date) has no news at all.

What the...  Huh

Same here, received the PSU but not the S9 from the same order.
Mine is the 21-31 march batch so I wasn't really expecting anything.
I got an email from Bitmain on 6th March saying it had shipped and it arrived less than 2 hours later so their mails must be delayed going out as it was 4 days in transit before I got the mail.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 14, 2018, 11:33:11 AM
Hi everyone!  Wink

I want to order S9 to Estonia. Bitmain site provides for 3 delivery options:
- UPS (39 USD/kg),
- Fedex (19 USD/kg),
- DHL (14 USD/kg).

With 5.5 kg weight of S9 this leads to
+ 215 USD for UPS
+ 105 USD for Fedex
+ 80 USD for DHL

Thus the total price of 1 S9 with APW3++ peaks more than 2 760 USD  Cry = 2 320 (Price of S9) + 215 (UPS delivery) + 105 (APW3++ price) + 120 (UPS delivery of APW3++)

Is this estimation correct? I can't believe delivery costs are that high  Embarrassed

Are there any other delivery options? How you guys deliver S9 to your country? I believe delivery prices I pointed out are more or less the same across Europe.

This is European Union man, prices are identical. By the way this is your least problem, you should be more worried about the ~20% (depending on the country, but it is around that percentage) customs duties that you will have to pay upon delivery Smiley

I agree.
I have estimated the duty and vat on importing an S9 into the EU at around 800 Euro (Duty 262 & VAT 560), so that would bring your total to around a 3000 Euro at the S9's current price.
UPS, or whoever, won't release the delivery to you unless you pay the ransom.
