1  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: £2500 to spend but would it be worth it?? on: January 20, 2014, 09:57:08 PM
Difficulty is now 300% higher than it was back then. TH/s machines should be arriving any day now which will make it even harder.

You just answered yourself. Invest in TH miners instead of older miners, because they are going to make all the money.

I agree that they will make the most money but there is no guarantee of a profit.
In fact, I fully expect > 30% difficulty increases to be the norm rather than the exception once these machines start shipping in volume.

I invested $4000 USD with very little knowledge of the bitcoin economy back in November when things were much better than they were now for miners. I ended up losing roughly $1000 USD of that original investment and I was lucky to salvage my losses to only that much.

Difficulty is now 300% higher than it was back then. TH/s machines should be arriving any day now which will make it even harder.

Don't invest money in bitcoin hardware unless you are doing it for fun and could care less if you make back your original investment.

As for bitcoin investment itself, this is pure speculation but it is my opinion that we will be range bound between 800USD and 1200USD for some time now. The risk/reward curve is therefore unbalanced so buyer beware.
3  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Did HashFast delivered any BabyJet yet ? on: January 10, 2014, 04:52:09 PM
HashFast is, most likely a scam at this point.

BFL is NOT a legit company. Would you buy from a company that promises delivery in 2 weeks but in reality takes 10+ months before shipping? I don't think so. They are NOT  legit in my book. How would you feel if you bought something from a company who promised you delivery in 2 weeks and yet kept postponing and postponing for 10 months? Would you call that company "legit"?

Or from a company that offers a 25% off sale from its regular price of ~2200 only to reduce the price by another thousand after the sale is over.
BFL's sales & marketing people are evil.
4  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What if future transaction fees don't compensate enough? on: January 09, 2014, 03:04:55 AM
What if these insufficient transaction fees causes miners to accept only higher fees, and this encourages miners to only accept even higher fees. Because of these high fees, people stop transacting.

Perhaps the only way to compensate is inflation?

I personally think the only mistakes of the original bitcoin design (if it really was originally designed to be a currency) was not instituting a fixed target of 2% inflation - a nominal amount ensuring things today will be cheaper than they will be tommorrow -- forcing bitcoin users to lean toward spending & investing but not hoarding.

It is for this reason I expect the CFTC to classify bitcoin to be a commodity similar to gold and not a currency like the dollar/euro/yen.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal vs Bitcoin on: January 02, 2014, 10:40:48 PM
I sold 2 bitcoin miners in the past week and today I received a call from them asking to verify that I did sell them on eBay, who the shipment company was, and if i had a tracking number.

Between chargebacks and paypal, I don't know which worries me more.
6  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: happy new year, is 2014 bitcoins year? on: January 01, 2014, 01:41:10 AM
as topic says, will 2014 be the year bitcoin value goes up to 5000 dollar? or will it collapse? please share your ideas Smiley

hopefully, 5000. maybe then i can break-even from the ASIC miners I overpaid for prior to discovering this website.  Sad

I'm new to this site and have been Bitcoin mining on a BFL 30 GH/s since November... I obviously got in the game late.
Also, going to start litecoin mining on a R9 290x soon as well.

I've got a developer background so I may start my own currency as well.
Seems like it would be a fun little project.
