I never, ever forget a grudge.
2  Other / Off-topic / Re: Flat Earth on: February 11, 2018, 06:52:48 PM
the Earth is not flat. Flat Earth doctrine is simply the ancients thought that now appears back to brainwash. It's been a lot of evidence suggesting that the Earth is round.

Pfft.  The Greeks knew the Earth was a globe, and even managed to calculate its circumference with less than a thousand miles of error.

The following image depicts the Greek dude Eratóstenes.

This is Eratóstenes theory, notice how the Suns rays are in parallel.

This depicts how light from the Sun actually strikes the Earth.

This depicts how the Suns rays look on a globe Earth.

This is how the Sun's rays look on a flat Earth.

The Greeks knew Eratóstenes was full of shit and nobody believed his nonsense, that's what the fucking Greeks knew.

These other guys are calling you a troll.  I think I prefer to believe that you're a kook.

Because government functions and state functions are different?  Policing isn't a competitive industry.  Neither is firefighting or sanitation.

... and are 'you' going to move to Venezuela any time soon?

Nope.  I have publicly funded police, firefighters, and sanitation right here in Arizona.  Also publicly funded roads, libraries, etc.
4  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Political Orientation on: February 11, 2018, 12:36:15 AM
It's a private company, with capitalist inversors (it's for profit) and all that... it's just that they do projects for the government.
The profit would not exist without government coercion and its request for services.

That's true, but whenever there's a private prison, the state is transfering part of their monopoly of violence (you have very limited rights as prisoner) to that private prison company. Therefore, as for the definition of state as monopoly of violence, you are breaking the state apart.

As i'm not an anarchist, I firmly believe in the state having the monopoly of violence (therefore existing).

Can't you see that allowing private entities to compete against the government (not subsidized by it) in what are normally considered to be state functions (law and law enforcement) would lead to a decrease in price and and increase in service quality? Why is it different than any other competitive industry?

Global warming is an indisputable fact. Man should discover the importance of protecting the environment.

Human race can't survive in the long term by destroying the planet. Those who cut down the forest and sanctioning coal power plants are basically triggering their own self-extermination. Perhaps they are thinking that they don't have to bother about it, as the upcoming generations would be the ones who are going to suffer.

Optimist.

The effects are already being felt, and will be pretty friggin' bad within the next 20 years.  The bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef is being caused by low alkalinity seawater (caused by Antarctic ice - which has an alkalinity of about 19, compared to sea water's 350).

The bad news is "yes."

The good news is, it's looking like the "slow model" is correct, which means desalinization of ocean currents results in an ice age, and humans have proven multiple times that we can survive an ice age (Civilization can't, which means we'll lose our history and do all of this crap again in 4000 years or so).  As opposed to the "fast model", in which the ocean pH plunges and everyone dies at once.

Any advice?
Please don't say it's all about confidence and all that bs because I don't believe it.

Then I guess you're screwed.

Either he knows about it, cares about it, but can't do anything about it, OR

He cares about it, can do something about it, but doesn't know about it, OR

He knows about it, can do something about it, but doesn't care.

OR

He's a prick, and all of this was on purpose.  He tossed us out of Eden so we said "fuck it, we'll go build our OWN Eden", and the following few thousand years have been an attempt to replace magic with technology.

OR

God is a super nice guy, and is giving you a time to repent, and become a friend of His. But if you don't, it's you or Him. And of course, it will be Him, because He controls everything, and won't reject Himself for you...

Although He came very close to that, when He gave up His life for you, in Jesus death on the cross.

Cool

But he's totally okay with kids starving to death in Africa.

Some records indicate a magnetic mountain that can pull nails out of ships and a horrible black dust. The world tree was suppose to have stood there at one time.

Honestly I have no clue, it's as secluded as Antarctica; It's not like anybody can just go there and see. Admiral Byrd says "it's crowded up there" whatever that's suppose to mean.

“Nobody goes down there any more, it's too crowded,.”

Yogi Berra quote FTW.

11  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are the causes of climate change? on: February 10, 2018, 05:57:57 AM
The root cause of the problem is that there are 7.6 billion people and the stable carrying capacity of the planet is 2 billion people.

All of the other problems stem from that.
12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your opinion on recreational drug use on: February 10, 2018, 05:41:53 AM
My country has a ban on the use of drugs.

Drugs are harmful substances that people eat for a long time, so whatever the reason, they will slowly kill you.

So will what passes for "food".

Don't get me wrong, I am not a drug advocate.  I am just saying that you are more likely to suffer a heart attack from eating crappy food than you are to dying from pot smoking.

What is the definition of life? How have you leaded it?

The only excuse for our species is problem-solving.  It's what we do.

I am a forecast strategist, specifically "water management".  It's unremitting horror, but it pays the bills and there's something new every day.
14  Other / Politics & Society / Re: privacy over partner on: February 10, 2018, 05:22:54 AM
Should husband/wife/partner be entitled to access your email or social media account?

Entitled?  Of course not.  But we read each other's stuff all the time, because we're both comfortable with it.  We keep no secrets.
15  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your opinion on recreational drug use on: February 10, 2018, 05:14:56 AM
It was indeed illegal and harmful. In my country, you should be feared if you are using those kind of drugs because you might get killed by unknown people or group of people especially that we had war on drugs at the moment here in my country.

It doesn't sound as if the drugs are the actual problem.

If it's flat, what's on the other side?
