1  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I've made 600k in Crypto - When to call it quits on: August 13, 2018, 04:28:26 AM
Well, if this is true, firstly, congratulations!

Secondly, looking at your portfolio have you invested purely for financial means or do you have practical belief in the projects and the use cases of their tokens?

If you are just in this for the money, cash out (I'm guessing at the time of this post your holdings have dramatically decreased already) and maybe just put it into "safe" currencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ripple etc.

However if you really believe in crypto and blockchain keep reinvesting in projects you believe in! You have so much capital to do so that a) you're bound to pick a winner or two and b) you may be helping some real-world beneficial projects off the ground!

Good luck!
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Many cryptocurrency players have gone bankrupt on: August 13, 2018, 02:00:05 AM
Is the term "bankruptcy" in cryptocurrency not at all slightly ironic?

Also this sounds like a ridiculous statement to make, seeing as people can hide/move their crypto at the drop of a hat.

Don't get me wrong, 2018 has been a diabolical year for many in crypto, but with the right strategies there are many ways to make money.

Often looking at ICOs with a genuine use case and a token with existing utility value is a safe and easy long-term investment. If the token has utility that strengthens it's reputation with regulators and if it has an existing business or platform to slot in to then it is bound to increase in value in the long term.

Anyone going "bankrupt" in crypto right now is not being patient. Identify the solid projects and grow your portfolio one clever investment at a time.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The PlayChip: Reverse ICOs... What are they? on: July 27, 2018, 12:41:27 AM

https://bitcoinist.com/reverse-icos-a-better-alternative/

While 2017 was a great year in terms of ideas for the marketplace, 2018 and beyond will be about real world adoption. Real businesses with existing revenue streams will be the most successful in bringing their projects to market.

Existing, licensed business are able to accept fiat in raising capital for their ICO and give the crypto world more of a 'regular' feel to newbies unfamiliar with the technology and benefits it will bring.

The PlayChip is an example of a reverse ICO, where an existing ecosystem of gaming platforms will accept the ERC20 as their gaming currency of choice. The built in functionality of the PlayWallet and PlayXchange will provide a "one-stop-shop" where users of the PlayChip can instantly convert their tokens into fiat or other cryptocurrencies. With six current platforms signed on to integrate the token, and more to be announced, the PlayChip holds genuine utility value where genuine existing market demand will determine it's value.

The ecosystem has a current user base of over 500,000 in 70 different nations, with a combined turnover exceeding $430 million.

The PlayChip recently won the "Draper Hero's Choice Award" at the Blockchain Economic Forum in San Francisco, and has been featured on CNBC's 'Crypto Trader'.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PlayChip ICO Discussion on: July 26, 2018, 11:45:57 PM
On behalf of the PlayChip Foundation, it is great pleasure to welcome you and share with you our global vision and revolutionary methods to disrupt and solve many problems in the online gambling sector.

About the PlayChip :

The PlayChip is an ERC20 token designed to become the universal gaming token.

The PlayChip will serve at the core of an online gaming ecosystem that already consists of six platforms, with many more to come. The ecosystem supports a user base of over 500,000 people in over 70 different nations, and is on track to turn over a combined US$430m in 2018 alone.

What we do:

The PlayChip is set to become the universal token for sports betting, gaming, fantasy sports, and eSports in an operating business with over 500,000 players on six platforms in 70 countries.

PlayChip’s mission is to deliver the world’s biggest incentivised, blockchain-enabled sports community and gaming ecosystem.

The PlayChip is set to disrupt the US$3 trillion unregulated gambling industry by providing unparalleled trust and transparency, ease of use, lower fees, and provably fair betting environments. The introduction of the blockchain will see the PlayChip offer a superior experience to traditional sports betting systems.

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), eSports, and online gambling are flourishing industries. The DFS industry enjoys a steady US$4bn annual turnover1 while global online gambling turnovers are forecasted to exceed US$59bn in 2020. Global gambling turnovers are estimated to be as high as US$3 trillion in unregulated markets.

At present, the PlayChip serves as a rewards token for playup.com, with a fixed value of US0.01. Players can convert the current PlayChip to rewards vouchers with affiliates including Mastercard and Amazon.

Following the migration of the PlayChip to the blockchain, the PlayChip will serve as the universal gaming token for six independent sports betting, DFS, and gaming platforms with a combined user base of over 500,000 and exceeding US$430 million in annual turnover.

Players will be able to use credit card, PayPal, bank deposit, or a range of cryptocurrencies to purchase PlayChips within the PlayWallet and PlayXchange. PlayChips can then be seamlessly transferred between any of the six gaming platforms to participate in DFS, sports betting, eSports betting, or table games such as poker. Winnings are then able to be easily cashed from PlayChips back into credit card, PayPal, bank deposit, or cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The PlayChip platform presents an all-in-one frictionless solution for fast, fun, and easy gaming and sports betting.

Due to the high volume of transactions that can take place in DFS and sports betting, the technology supporting the PlayChip must be scalable and fast. A robust internal network is being built to handle the high frequency transactions of PlayChip’s distributed partners, which currently number in the thousands per minute. Timing in DFS and sports betting is crucial due to changes in conditions and late changes to player profiles, so it is important that players of the PlayChip have a network they can rely upon. The PlayChip offers an off-chain engine linked to a public blockchain that will provide players with high transaction speeds and the confidence to use their PlayChips securely in real time without fear of bottlenecks or network lag.

The PlayChip will also offer a social network that links all platforms within the ecosystem and incentives robust gameplay between players via large prize pools and leaderboard competitions. In addition, an eToro-like follower functionality is being built into the platform to facilitate incentivised copycat betting of leading players. This social betting feature will create large scalable network effects, which further aim to grow the user base and reward possibilities for players.

We see the development of the PlayChip as a natural progression for a dynamic and ever-evolving industry. Due to the ‘trustless’ nature of smart contracts, and the security and autonomy of blockchain networks, we envisage that a majority of industries will adopt blockchain-enabled payment and rewards systems in the coming years. PlayChip is pleased to lead this advance.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mobilink - Another Possible ICO Scam on: May 23, 2018, 11:37:42 PM
Hi - is it confirmed that it was Mobilink that attempted the scam.

Allegedly it was TokenGet that locked them out of their system and stole 900 million of their tokens when they tried to delay their ICO by three weeks.

This broke a couple of weeks ago but I've not seen anything since - it's hard to tell on either side, both parties seem untrustworthy.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the digital dollar on: April 27, 2018, 06:01:23 AM
How much longer will the term "dollar" be relevant? Anyone else think that BTC will soon become the global standard over the USD? As in, potentially within the next decade?
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I Be Scared Of Hackers If I Have Lot of BTC. on: April 26, 2018, 05:30:36 AM
If you hold a lot of BTC then I would recommend getting two hardware wallets and downloading a software wallet to your phone/desktop.

Set up alerts to watch your addresses with blockchain.info here - http://blog.[Suspicious link removed]/2016/05/31/how-to-use-watch-only-addresses/

That way you'll get an email alert if your account is ever compromised and you can try and prevent the hack.

Never share your private key with anyone and use 2FA on everything possible!
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing to Bitcoin is not that easy on: April 26, 2018, 05:22:43 AM
People in here saying it's not that complicated are not considering just how foreign this concept is to so many. Many people do not properly understand the current financial world. There are many intricacies in modern economics and cryptocurrencies alike.

I was unaware when first investing in Bitcoin that to really use it and diversify I would be required to register with more than one exchange (cryptocurrency and fiat exchange) and have online, software and hardware wallets to diversify and secure my funds.

The first step one should take before investing is understanding the philosophy behind the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. This will in turn lead you to a better understanding of what fiat money is and how we use and understand it also.

The philosophy and technology is what will eventually drive your excitement and investment - not the price fluctuations.

10  Other / Archival / Re: Help a Beginner to understand... on: April 24, 2018, 02:33:13 AM
25 is too many, especially for a rookie.

Condense into 3-4 safe coins. If you are only in this for the money and not the projects then I would consolidate into BTC, LTC, NEO and XRP. They are the safest investments for 2018.

I would HODL until you understand market patterns and can do elementary TA. Then spend a little time everyday studying the TA of the coins you are invested in, identifying the support and resistance lines and adding in your own fib retracements and other indicators you have picked up in online forums.

Never invest more money than you can afford to lose. Consider it as an extra savings account. Whatever you are putting per month into your savings, put 20-50% into your crypto holdings (again, however much you are comfortable putting in). From that, leave 50-80% in your strong, bankable coins (ones I have listed above, or others your own research has given you good cause to believe in) and the small remainder you can start looking at to trade alts.

It is important to adopt a long term philosophy here. Keep studying the market, store your coins on a hardware wallet and above all, stay positive!

11  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about meditation? on: April 24, 2018, 02:22:57 AM
As someone with a very active mind, I cannot say that meditation has brought me any level of deep enlightenment that I know many have claimed to experience.

However, I can say without doubt that meditation has helped me practice gratitude, increased my patience, extended my compassion and understanding and let go of the past.

I hope one day to experience more profound enlightenment, however if it never happens I won't be upset about it. Meditation has already given me untold benefits and made me appreciate myself a lot more.

For getting started I'd really recommend the headspace app. It really helps with the process and helps establish a routine.

Meditation is exercise for your mind (although it's super relaxing exercise!)
12  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: It is NOT secure to use hardware wallets (and it never was) on: April 24, 2018, 01:27:56 AM

I am most certainly not technical enough to grasp the extent of that document, but it does appear to imply that a hacker requires physical access to your device beforehand before hacking into it.

Everyone is aware of this threat. This is without doubt the pitfall of any hard wallet, not knowing how it was configured and what hands it has passed through beforehand.

Following on from this, however, has anyone else had any difficulty downloading the latest firmware from ledger?

I have recently converted from a PC to a Mac (help me lord) and am having trouble getting 1.4.1 onto my device. I know this sounds a really noob question but would there be any reason my ledger would read the software differently if it was previously connected to a windows based app rather than ios?

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: April 19, 2018, 06:01:22 AM

Satoshi is a Gaia (10ft tall alien blue bird). He visited the Earth in 2008 to prematurely bring us the advent of blockchain technology having despaired at the failure of our economic system and re-democratize our wealth!

That, or a brilliant person who realised the power of their creation and was unwilling to bear the limelight (and perhaps devastating personal cost) that would inevitably come with it...
