So, I was gambling at this site as I sometimes do. I made an initial deposit, then out of the blue I received another notification saying that I received another credit for the same amount (which I didn't do). My first thought was "aww sweet", but then when I looked up the transaction on the blockchain, it looked like this (translation in black): The downside of it is that now I cannot withdraw the funds as it requires at least two confirmations... Any idea if it will sort itself out? What should I do?

I believe I have an explanation for this. Russia is commonly associated with bears, so all of them bears get excited when they drive the price down.
Nailed it.

It sounds like Bitcoins would have to be taken into the country physically and exchanged by trading. The person taking in the BTC would end up with a load of Pesos though, which probably isn't what they would want. It sounds difficult to arrange getting Bitcoins into an already closed system.
About 10 days ago, a local BTC exchange site was created, which allows to trade ARS/BTC (Unisend.com). Before this, the only way to obtain BTC was through localbitcoins or OTC, but you always ended up paying more than the actual value of a BTC in USD...

Hi All, I saw this article on new Argentine regulations to severely curtail online imports to protect the Argentinean economy from the terrors of Amazon, and it got me really antsy about a currency collapse there: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-25836208As such, my next natural reaction was to wonder if it was possible for me (an American) to sell Bitcoins to people inside of Argentina, in exchange for goods shipped to me? It sounds like they have a pretty severe clamp on receiving shipments internationally, but are there any effective regulations to keep Argentinians sending out packages of Gold, Silver, Magic Cards, etc? To be honest, at this point working to get BTC into Argentina seems as much a mission of mercy as anything. I am from Argentina, let me tell you a bit about it: You got that right, we are at the brink of a currency collapse. For years, our currency has lost so much value (30% inflation YoY) that the government is making everything in its power to stop citizens to convert our worthless currency to other more reliable currencies. Since they can't stop people from purchasing goods from China or US over the internet, they keep making up taxes and overcharges to compensate for the loss. One of this measures goes against your idea, as the Argentinean IRS makes crazy requirements to people who offers services and goods for people abroad, making it virtually impossible for common folk to do any int'l business. Basically, we are turning into the new Cuba, growing more and more apart from international trade and commerce. To give you a glance, there are two USD/ARS exchange rates; an one "official" which is enforced by the govt (6.30 ARS / 1 USD), and the real exchange rate (black market, a.k.a "Blue Dollar", which is 12ARS / 1 USD). That means that the central bank has to use its reserves to fund the bullshit "official" exchange rate, and it is bleeding all the national treasure.

@Entropy-uc a significant value. Since USD is unavailable, many people turned into BTC to have savings in a currency different than ARS due to the devaluation. To give you an idea, USD has an official government exchange rate, which is 1USD=6.50ARS more or less, and then there is the "real" exchange rate, which is 1USD=10.50ARS People are selling/buying 1BTC at 12000ARS more or less, which translates to roughly 1100USD at today's exchange rate (1BTC=800USD or so) If you have Bitcoins, secure some buyers, come to Argentina and then convert your BTC at the "real" value, you'd still profit, all while eating good steaks, wine and women

If you can buy hardware, you can buy BTC. Just find a trusted escrow like John K. and then find someone to do a direct sale.
Otherwise you are going to end up spending 10k to buy 5k worth of bitcoin. Not really. At least in my country (Argentina) you are not allowed to make wire transfers in USD unless you are paying for a contractual service or with travel purposes. The only leaphole I found in this USD shutdown is to cloud-mine, and I know for a fact that some other countries have similar situations in regards to foreign currencies.

Some people cannot buy high amounts of BTC given local goverment regulations, such as myself. I would gladly buy 5kUSD worth of BTC today, but it's just a no-go given lack of payment methods. Given this, buying a 2THS mining contract due to start in March seems the easiest way to get a hold of some BTCs...

What about the "real" currency bubble? Are you not as concerned with the Federal Reserve issuing debt that will not be (cannot possibly be) paid? I would rather invest in BTC now before that one bubble pops, which in my opinion, will.
Do what you will with your hard-earned paper, and let others invest in what they may.
For the 20th time, I'm not trying to tell others to buy or sell, I'm not predicting prices, I'm not trying to convince anyone, scare anyone or influence anyone's decisions. I am simply putting the info out there that every speculative bubble in human history has ended the same. People can take it or leave it. As far as what I think of the Fed and U.S. gov't debt, that is a whole nother can of worms that I have no interest in getting into. Its way too long of a topic and off topic for this forum as far as I'm concerned. Point taken. There are many independent factors that could abruptly change the btc market any given day, so it is a risky investment for sure, but it has come a long way in just a few years, and that makes it very interesting to follow.
