Looks like I need to learn Google Apps Script:  https://developers.google.com/apps-script/overview
2  Other / Beginners & Help / cryptsy order book wierdness? on: December 12, 2013, 10:33:13 PM
Has anyone else experienced this?

I've seen this several times now.  I'm about to place a sell order and I get an error saying that I'm way below the lowest asking price.  Or the opposite happens, and I'm about submit a buy order but I'm told its way above the lowest asking price.

Yet, these erroneous orders don't make any sense.  In some cases they're 10-20% above/below the best price!  Another thing that's curious is the order size is usually quite small.

I guess it could be lag at cryptsy or just a random event.  Or perhaps this is trader tactic to move the needle in their favor?  Maybe its a confused or lagged bot?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [TRADER] C.A.T. Cryptsy Automatic Trader Get a Copy@1 BTC (New Version!!) on: December 12, 2013, 02:45:24 PM
Hello,

I'm a newbie still on the fence about purchasing CAT.  Here's my top 10 list of questions or concerns.  Please forgive any silly or obvious errors.  Yes, I did read the FAQ, but not every post in these threads.

1.  How do you conduct the transaction to purchase CAT?  are you using a third party escrow?

2.  I know you mention free upgrades, but is that really forever?  I can expect all new features and 2.0 and 3.0 for free as well?  Where's the incentive for you in that?

3.  What's your development roadmap look like for the next 3-6 months?  how often are your updates/bugfixes?

4.  It seems there is a "I'm losing money" or "I want to sell my version" post every so often on this thread.  Why not offer them a partial refund?  couldn't you just exempt them from future upgrades?

5.  What's the average amount someone needs to use CAT, including the purchase price?  1 BTC plus 2 or 3 BTC to trade?  is that low or high?  does it scale to even larger amounts?

6.  Any performance measurements on CAT?  does it run better on windows or mac or linux?

7.  I want to run this on a PC and just leave it alone.  But can I?  How often do I need to maintain the program?  Cancel all trades and restart it daily?

8.  What I've read of the Ping/Pong strategy is that its only useful in a sideways market.  is that true?  Won't it sell short on big upward trends and hold too long on doward trends?

9.  I'm interested in writing my own simple strategies, is there any support for that?

10.  Current users:  What do you like most about CAT?  what do you dislike (if anything) about it?  Are you more stressed out using it or less?

Honestly this really seems like a great application.  Sampey, you clearly put a lot of time and effort in writing this and it shows.  But purchasing this does come with a lot of risk.  Personally I feel I've done OK with a buy/hold strategy with alt coins.  But I do admit its time consuming and I miss out on the dips when I'm not online.  If I decide to pull the trigger, I just want to everything I can to increase my odds of success with CAT.

thanks!

6  Other / Beginners & Help / Giving away BTC for Christmas on: December 10, 2013, 04:26:30 PM
I'm planning to give out small amounts of BTC, $20 worth, as Christmas presents to my family and friends.  It should be a fun way to raise awareness and talk about BTC.

Any pointers on the easiest way to that?  I was thinking about a simple paper wallet and handing it to them.  But whats the easiest way I can tell them to redeem their bitcoin?
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm using two-factor authentication. Should I still be worried? on: December 10, 2013, 03:54:35 PM
So I use two-factor authentication on every bitcoin site where I have bitcoin stored.  I also use password generators like this: http://www.random.org/passwords/

Should I still be worried?  Are there any known incidents of people's accounts still being compromised?  Anything else I could do to protect myself?

Depends on the two-factor authentication type. If email, it is not enought.

I'm using Google Authenticator.  I also printed out the QR codes used to register at each site in case I lose my phone.

Check out bitcoin wisdom's calculator:  http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

Assuming it takes 90 days to actually get your rig, set it up, and start mining, there's really no way to make money with these things.  Also, most of these machines require you to pre-order.  So you're locked in on the cost just waiting weeks or months for delivery.  Not to mention the power costs could change and there's always a chance of an outage too.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Any pointers for using Cryptsy's API? on: December 10, 2013, 02:39:43 PM
First, this is a required newbie post, please don't judge me too harshly.

I'm planning to write a quick app that will consume the cryptsy api and do some simple trades for me.  I'm already consuming the public feed, but haven't added support for trading.  I have a dead simple trading strategy.  Not a lot of trades either.  Just recognizing simple trends and taking advantage of them.

Any gotchas?  What's everyone's experience with Cryptsy's api?  Any pointers would be helpful.  Thanks!
