Well looks like the drop in BTC price is having an effect on slowing down the difficulty rise
12 hours to next difficulty change and only 0.8 % rise and dropping so could end up reducing for the first time in ages.

Dont know a about avalons but I shut down my s9s and m3s trough ssh, command poweroff. Leave them to cool down and then unplug psu.
And THAT has got to be the absolute safest way! Well I suppose it is. I just dont feel comfortable unpluging something that drains 2.2kw (like M3) without proper shutdown. Not to mention sparkling effect that is sometimes seen in the socket. Also this way chips can properly cool down, if you just unplug them while they are at 85 degrees whole miner gets damn hot. I agree with Vene that a proper shutdown like he does is the best way. If i,m powering down i pull the network cable first on my avalons and let the miners go to idle before unplugging the PSU but would be interested in a shutdown command for them. Makes perfect sense to NOT let your miners get overheated every time you power off.

JHenry01 Think your main problem is your cabling and not the PSU. Looking at your pics you are using a single wire of 16awg for ground and supply to a single pin of the molex connector The amps should be spread across all 6 pins of the molex connections with 6 x 16awg to stop it from overheating the wire.

Cheers for the reply. Found the problem was the small PCB between the fan connector and fan lead had a damaged track which was the yellow wire for controlling fan speed. Repaired track and now working as should. I think the problem with the condition of mine is if your a Business to Business customer there was no warranty offered on these. Ergo the worst condition get sent to business custards. 2 of the units have about 10% device hardware errors and i am in the process of stripping, cleaning and re-thermal pasting them so fingers crossed.

I have received 4 of the used Avalon 741,s and not impressed Two of them look like they where dropped from a great height with warped cases, one the fan is running at maximum constantly. The last one is in fairly reasonable condition. They all where full of dust and insects and have a greasy film inside that smells like stale grease. Looks like you get what you pay for with these units. I will post pictures later as they say a picture is worth a thousand words

Hiya hoping this is just a setting issue. Just bought some used Avalon 741 units from cryptouniverse.
And when I say used I should say abused. Two of them have big dents and casing not fitting correctly anymore and one of them hashes ok but fan is running at max even when temps are low and even when not hashing. They where all full of dust and insects and smell like they where run in a chip shop. Anyhow i have swapped fan from a known good unit so looking for suggestions what to do next.

Try powering the left board. Mine worked fine on the left hash board. The 12 is normal when only supplying power to one hash board.

Don,t know if relevant but your PG (Powergood) is showing 12 Last time mine showed that it was because one of the power supplies had died. Mine normally shows 15
soz should have read your post better. Which hashing board powered left one next to auc3 connector or right side.

You could try swapping the fans from your first S9 to the second S9 to rule out faulty fan unit

Hiya all,
I have just completed building a cabin shed for my mining setup and starting to work out my cooling system.
I will be only running approx. 20 Avalons and my intention was to partition the back wall and duct all miners into this area to outside. I was going to leave the power supplies on the intake side to increase the ambient air temperature as gets very chilly in uk at the moment.
In the remaining section of shed i am intending to install 300x300 louvre grill and attach a car radiator puller fan (because they are cheap and run on 12v) I will control this fan with a speed temp controller for shed area to control the ambient air temp.
Has anyone used radiator fans for this purpose and did it work.
Cheers for any advice in advance.

A quick question. I just lost a power supply on one of my A741īs.
They are all powered by pairs of HP 700W supplies so the unit is still hashing on the side thatīs powered.
What Iīm wondering is, can I leave it like this, powered on just one side, until i get a new power supply in a couple of days time.
I find the 741 runs fine with just one hash board powered (mine was hashing on the right side next to auc3 connection) Do your power supplies get hot because if they do you might have to modify the fan unit. Last lot of HP 750w supplies i had to do fan resistor mod to each to run fan properly Fantastic i,ve got my first non dust payment here. Geronimoe

Thank you and great review on the 821. Just what i was looking for. I noticed that the fan is running at 100% all the time and was interested in the noise levels Are you able to show the decibels these units produce.
Cheers

If you're over 1THs then you're over the dust level. Once you're fully ramped up, that is... Cheers

Hiya all, just joined kanopool yesterday and can,t believe we have found 2 blocks within 24 hours of joining. I have a quick question with the 5nd and ramping up what would be the minimum hashing rate to not receive a dust payment after you are fully ramped up Thanx in advance Geronimoe
