2  Economy / Goods / Butterfly Labs FPGA on: February 20, 2013, 12:58:49 AM
Hey guys, I'm a broke college student who can't afford to upgrade to the $1300 ASIC so I'm selling my Butterfly Labs Single FPGA for $600.  It mines at 800 mh/s stable and will come with all cables and power adapters.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to participate in Butterfly Labs trade in program. PM me if you're interested!

3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: MSI afterburner and 4 6870 cards on: July 06, 2011, 06:17:37 AM
I crossfired 2 of my 6970s. Using guiminer. Catalyst 11.6 sdk 2.4. All GPU's show up in Afterburner and guiminer. It's the only way I've gotten 4 cards to work in W7

Your asking price is very steep for a 5850.  Microcenter still had a few in stock when I bought mine for $200 which also had a $50 rebate effectively making it $150. One 5850 for $300? Good luck finding someone to buy them.

5830's are an awesome bang for the buck.  Damn hard to find them in stock for $120< though.

I opted with Truecrypt. It was pretty easy to set up and I haven't had a problem running the bitcoin appdata from the encrypted file.

Grab a PCIx16 flexible extender.  I currently have four moderately high overclocked cards running on my MSI 890fx-GD70.  Lol my cooling solution is to leave the rig in front of a small AC unit, temps are always under 72C.  Oh and the cards I'm using are a 6970 thats running @ 420mhash, a non reference locked shader 6950 @ 370 mhash, and 2 5850s @ 350 mhash a piece.

If a small AC unit is not a viable options, get a bunch of case fans! Keep your cards under 80C!

MSI reference model (unlockable shaders) 2gb 6950's are $280 bucks on newegg, $260 after rebate.  I'm getting over 400 mhash/s with unlocked shaders, 950 mhz core, 600 memory, 53% fan, and I'm using the flags -v -w128 -f0.

Lol, I'm glad the new monitor's nice. I'd suggest having only solid media backups of your wallet. Use a flash drive, discs, hell, I even have a copy of my wallet on my kindle lol. On a side note, encrypting your wallet can't hurt. So check out this tutorial if your interested.

The 5970s and 6990s are definitely the most powerful, but its very hard to find a reasonably priced one right now.  If the budget doesn't matter, there are a few selling on ebay.  If your trying to budget, go for a high mhash/price cards, such as...

5850's which are great if you can find them for ~$150
I'm getting 350mhash/s out of both of mine

6950's are the next best and I just ordered two of the MSI 2gb 6950 reference models (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127555&cm_re=6950-_-14-127-555-_-Product) from newegg for $280 ($260 after rebates)
Should get 400+ mhash/s with unlocked shaders.

Regardless of what cards you choose, keep in mind that the current trend in difficulty has been about a 50% increase every 9-10 days... caveat emptor.
