1  Other / Beginners & Help / Question about cgminer and multiple workers... on: December 17, 2013, 12:39:36 AM
So I've been starting to mine recently and have used my main gaming pc so far whenever I'm not using it (7950s). I use GUIMiner-Scrypt and it allows me to create a miner for each gpu which I attach to an individual worker from my pool (Currently on Miningpool.co mining fast coins, if that matters).

Anyway, I just put together a seperate rig with 4 gpus to mine full time and am using ubuntu for the OS. I've installed everything and got cgminer up and running but I have a quick question. I created new workers on my pool but in the cgminer script I only put in one username and password (ie -u username.workername -p password) and I believe it is apply all the gpus hashrates to the one worker..? Am I correct in assuming so? Should I do it this way or should I have each gpu to a seperate worker? and what would the script lines look like for that?

Thanks!

So looking at all the individual round information I noticed that many rounds I don't have any shares. Is that because they are solved too fast for me to be a part of? Would having a high hash rate combat this?

But I did notice that I'm part of a lot more in the beginning (first 30min of starting my miner) and then slowing down. I don't want to have to keep start/stopping it.

From watching the BTC-e for a little bit I'd probably buy a bunch of LTC. Or spend the money on making a mining rig.

There's a really long thread (40 or so pages) in the alt currencies forum that has some pretty interesting information on it.

Hey everyone,

So I'm new to the site and somewhat new to mining. I've mined a few LTC but recently switched to FST since my hashing isn't too high and I feel I can make more here. I begin testing it out with one of my GPUs (an MSI 7950 I bought for gaming awhile ago) and have been mining on and off in MiningPool.co FST pool for the past 24hrs.

What I've noticed is that when I start my worker in GUIMiner-Scrypt, it starts earning fairly quickly and my account balance goes up. But over time it tends to slow down pretty hard and the accepted shares only raises slowly. Is this normal? I've read of people gaining so many more coins so quickly I'm confused. Granted, I'm using one card at around 610 kh/s but still think it should be better. Overnight last night I gained very few coins when I thought I was gonna to make double at least what I did since I made more during the day with the gpu mining on and off for a shorter period of time than leaving it on all night to mine constantly.  Huh
