I've been watching top closely and voting for it on every exchange I am part of!

To the TOP!

I was given 5000 top in the reddit section yesterday! Some nice people over there. I was really excited.

But now I see that it's not that much.

Oh well.  Nice to see support for more altcoins!

Cheers!
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My BTC-E account has been hacked. Please Help btc-e support *RESOLVED* on: January 02, 2014, 01:49:14 PM
Well, at last they solved the issue.
Any explanation on why they took so long to answer?
Did they provide you with a different contact method?

No, they didn't give me any explanation about why it took nearly 3 weeks. After about the first week, I had given up on getting the account back, but now I feel that if you have problems it will just take a long time but they will help.

The only contact I ever had from them was through the support ticket system.  I would get an email to notify when they had responded on my ticket, then I would log into the support system and post my reply using the browser.  I tried to reply using email but that didn't seem to work.

Hope this is helpful to people who are in the same boat. Cheers.

Yeah!  I got an email from BTC-E today that they have finally resolved my account issue.

I was asked to provide them with a new gmail email address and a few days after I did that they connected my hacked account to it and I was able to reset the password and gain access.

No coins were missing, no trading was done.  There was a hold on my account and it's still there so I guess the hacker just gave up.

Thanks BTC-E!

So after 5 days, I received this from "Support:"

Вы вернули доступ к почте и аккаунту?

Which I think translates into "have you been giving access to your account and email?"

UGH.  I don't know if I should be happy that someone got back to me or upset that they don't have any idea what is going on.

Yeah, I feel the same way about their support staff.  I don't know if it's something sinister or they simply don't have the staff to deal with all the requests.

That's great news to hear!

How long did it take you to get through to BTC-e on Skype?  I have contacted them in Russian but gotten nothing.

I have the same problem you had and have opened a support ticket, but as of 2 days all they have sent is a link to their news section on how to enable 2FA (which at this point is useless to me) and a list of login ip details.

I am really hoping that my case gets resolved happily also, but I am not confident it will.

What can they do? The best they can do is restore access to your account, but the coins will most likely be gone. If so, they can't restore the coins, because they don't have them anymore.

Based on information on their site, after a password change is made, the account is placed on a 48 hour withdrawal hold, so for the next 12 hours or so, the coins should still be there.  If they can restore access, I'll enable 2FA.

I have changed all my passwords and scanned my computer.  Now just waiting for a slim, slim chance that support will help me.

and you're already wrong, since in may 2013, the price was around $100 (i think).

hahahah, this made me laugh.  I should be fairly easy to predict what the price of bitcoin was in the past Wink

The future is harder...I think it's going to be around the current high mark ~1200.

I agree one should be as careful as possible, so I am urging everyone who used BTC-e to make sure they have 2FA enabled.

However, I would really like to get some support from the BTC-e side.  It's not helpful at all for them to tell me after I have lost control of my account to simply enable 2FA.

I understand that they probably have a large number of tickets to get through, but so far I have been unable to reach them via email or Skype.

12  Economy / Service Discussion / My BTC-E account has been hacked. Please Help btc-e support *RESOLVED* on: December 11, 2013, 10:07:32 PM
Hello,

Yesterday at 6pm Eastern Standard time I got an email saying that a password reset had been requested.  I didn't request this and when I tried to log into my account I was told "Invalid login or password."  I also tried to reset my password using lost password, but when I did that, nothing ever came to my email, and yes I checked the spam folder.

I opened a ticket with BTC-e support but the only response I got back was that I should enable 2 factor authentication and a list of my recent logs.

I am not able to enable 2 factor authentication as I have no access to my profile.  I have read that in the event of a password change the account withdraw is placed on hold for 48 hours.

I only have 24 more hours to fix this or i'll loose my coins (if not already.)

I am hoping that Btc-e support will see this.  My ticket number is: #RUS-379-54435

Thanks,
bitman128k

UPDATE:
Well, I almost don't believe it but I got my account back and all the coins were still there.  If fact, there was no activity at all.  It did take me 2 1/2 weeks of very frustrating communication with BTC-E, but finally they asked me to make a new gmail email address and transferred my account to it and I was able to reset the pass. 2FA is on for all options!  Cheers BTC-E Support and everyone else!
13  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to get BTC-e to respond to support tickets? on: December 11, 2013, 09:58:35 PM
For what it's worth I have heard that they don't like to answer tickets submitted in English.

I have used google translate to resend my tickted about my account, that has been hacked and I have no access to...still waiting on a reply.

Good luck

Yes, I don't expect to get my coins back, but I'm certainly going to try.  I have an open ticket that as of, support has only responded back with a list of the times my account was logged into and by what ip.  I see the request the person made yesterday to change my password, then they logged in once and that was the last I have.

At this point my account will be on hold for one more day until withdrawals are possible, so there is a small shred of hope.

I have also contacted support via their Skype channel, no response.  I'll let you know

How long have you been using them?

If you haven't, I would highly recommend enabling 2 factor authentication.

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not use BTC-E on: December 11, 2013, 05:11:39 PM
I had my btc-e account hacked yesterday, and I have probably lost the $200 worth of coin I was trading with.  I didn't have 2FA so it's my fault.

I was thinking however, that it's possible that BTC-e could simply assume a select number of accounts very easily and I am not sure if 2FA would prevent this as they admin the site.

You said why would they bother with small amounts, but if they are doing this on a factor of a few hundred accounts a week it could add up.  It all depends on the volume of accounts, needs to be small enough not to raise too many flags.

Also, from a programming standpoint I have no idea how secure their code is, it might be very easy for certain people to compromise the accounts.

It's still wild west out there.  If support can't or wont help what other options do you have?  NONE.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My MtGox account hacked... Lost $60,000... :'( on: December 11, 2013, 04:54:45 PM
Oh man, so sorry to hear that.  It won't compare at all, but my btc-e account was just hacked yesterday and I lost $200.  Didn't have 2FA on.  I know the frustration at least.  And I learned a lesson.

It really is the wild west.  You have no idea how secure any of these exchanges are. How many times has Gox been hacked?
There isn't much you can do about it either.  Good luck though, I hope the police/support helps.

Welcome!

I'm in the same boat...long time lurker...I have been mining for the last few months with a BFL Jalapeno that took just over a year from when I ordered it.   I feel like it might be too little too late Wink
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Hello, I'm new...and my btc-e account was just hacked! on: December 11, 2013, 03:04:00 PM
Hello everyone,

I have been following bitcoin since mid 2012 and mined a few back when I could using my 2x 6950.  Well I took a small amount and made an account on btc-e and was trading happily for the last few weeks.

Yesterday, my account was apparently hacked and while I have opened a support ticket, I am not optimistic that I will get back my coins/currency. It was about $200 so it won't be the end of the world.

I did not have 2FA enabled, and that is my own fault really, but I should say that neither do I have 2fA enabled on any of my Fiat bank accounts and they have not been hacked.

What is has done is got me thinking about the nature of security on these exchanges.  I am in no way a computer programer but I wonder just how secure the back-end/server side of these site are.  I have been reading up and if you know what your doing it apparently very easy to get the code for websites and I suppose exploit any and all weaknesses.

There isn't much that can be done if this happens and support doesn't answer because as we all know the very nature of bitcoin is it's non regulation.

I imagine that people who support or use bitcoin more than causally would have above average computer skills and many seem to be way beyond me in terms of coding (and perhaps hacking.)

So, I suppose this is just a cautionary tale to use the strongest password encryptions you can!

Cheers,
