1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] Exclusive AGX.io Beta Trading Today ✈ DigiShield ✔ on: March 13, 2014, 06:37:25 PM
Where can I read up on DigiShield? I don't know what it is and would like to find out more!

Thanks!

This.

Something I said when it was implemented. We have something better than other coins and we need to shout about it.

ToScA - Its a difficulty retargeting model that is more reactive and better than KGW. It protects us from big multipools taking advantage of a low difficulty and then leaving the rest of us to deal with ridiculous difficulty. A graph was shown earlier in the thread showing how it performed with a sudden surge in hashrate.

i hate this paying BTC for voting thing. They are just taking money from people for adding coins they should be adding anyway.

So any word on what the problem was? was it a bug that will effect bitcoin as well in a few years? or was it a change made after the fork from bitcoin?

No, it was a bug of my own doing. I believe it is patched, and I'm testing it on an isolated blockchain. I believe everything is ok, But i want to mine more blocks on my testnet before I release the software.

Sorry to bump this from last month, but I have not kept up with the latest events.

What was the bug that allowed more coins to be mined?

Was there a detailed explanation in some post?

Please link of available.

Thanks!

There is some post about it several pages back, the exact location is unknown. The problem appears to exist in all coins. I have tested the anomaly under a number of different parameters and the result is the same. There is a mathematics error in the code where essentially the mining  rewards continue to reduce by half even beyond the 8th decimal. IE: even after the mining reward is cut in half down to 0.00000001 it continues to half even though the result cannot be seen. Eventually this causes a script error, and causes the block rewards to start over from the beginning. The easiest fix is a manual entry to tell the network to never produce coins after BLOCK # "X" ("X" will vary based on how the coin is set up.) I believe this error will effect most (if not all)  current bitcoin / altcoin forks.

Wow! This is serious!

We need to make sure everybody in the crypto community knows about this, including the fact you/PMC found and fixed it.

I can't be 100% sure that all forks would suffer the same result, but I have enough reason to suspect it. And actually it was a random guy that spotted the error, we might be sitting here under different circumstances if it weren't for him. I merely patched it.

Could you maybe test the Bitcoin code and confirm whenever you have some time?

This would be a huge contribution of PMC if confirmed.

Yes, I have been meaning to do so, I simply haven't had time since things have been progressing so well with PMC. However, I fully intend to try it out of curiosity.

I'm the random guy! Cheesy
The bug was in the GetBlockValue function. The problem was that the reward amount was determined by cutting by half the initial block reward every 250 blocks and the division was made by shifting the bits to the right. Doing this 64 times resetted the reward to the initial one. (I think using a normal division should solve the problem). I just watched the bitcoin source and it has the exact same problem. The difference is that bitcoin halves the reward every 210000 blocks instead of 250. So the reward will be resetted at block 13440000, when the number of the block divided by 210000 will be 64. I think we should tell them... but we have al lot of time to do it Smiley (we are at block 288372...)

You are an amazing person, and I cannot overstate my gratitude.

thanks  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

ps: I don't wanna seem greedy but in my signature you can find my address  Roll Eyes

That is awesome.

having problems with the update when trying to solo mine.

diff jumps to 938 then to 9 a couple of times then I got bsod
Which operating system are you mining on? Which miner are you using?

This is the first issue someone has had with the update. Several mining pools are running the update with no problems. We ourselves solo mined for about 12 hours testing the current configuration with various hash rates.

If you are getting the blue screen of death this sounds like a graphics card / mining configuration issue. Please post some more info and we can help you work through the issue.

sorry for the delay, had to go out.

Im running win 7 ultimate, cgminer 3.7.2, r9 290. I think it was me, i sorted it, ill let you know if it happens again but I dont think it will unless the diff drops

Would be nice if you could let everyone know a definite time when the update will be released, you have missed 2 time slots so far.
We apologize, we are getting closer.

We have ran through some very in depth tests. We have proved the KMG is not all it is cracked up to be. We have been up working on it for 14 hours now today so it will be tomorrow morning as it is approaching 2 AM here. We would much rather have a delayed update than a failed one.

I've fiddled with the wallet before, and if I understand correctly your simulating hash increases and decreases...  That has got to be miserable, lol.  You get to experience how it feels to have a multi-pool spike the difficulty over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again........

Good luck with that, lol.
Yes, that about sums it up. And we have destroyed several configurations with it, including the gravity well. What we have came up with will be much better because of the extreme testing. Smiley

Once again, give it a fancy name. One thing we need to do more than this update is stand out from the crowd not just catch up to what everyone else has already done. If you have something better make sure people know about it.

Does it really matter if we get onto these new tiny exchanges? I figure only one exchange counts, and that's Cryptsy. But for some reason we can't get more than 24 support votes there...

cryptsy is overrated, even when people call it craptsy. Newcomers like coinmarket.io and poloniex are rapidly becoming more important imo

You guys are merciless. You won't be able to do this forever. Just don't get caught selling high unable to buy back in.  Cheesy

I got burned doing this on DOGE, i'm just playing with a small slice this time Smiley

I know,

anyway whats the network hashrate? i see the difficulty is 1.05k

fluxuating between 80gh~100gh

am I calculating correctly then if i point one block erupter(336mhs) at it I should find one block on average every couple of days?

Over 0.5 PMC in almost every mined block right now! Much block bonuses.  Smiley

I'm new. How does this work? Can the premined coins be injected into the blocks or is that simply the transaction rewards?

Yes, I use a script to inject rewards into the blocks by constantly changing the transaction fee I pay and sending a small amount of PMC to myself in a loop. Those 0.5 transaction fees being put into blocks is my script. The payout varies based on several factors.

guess i was really unlucky then xD
