1  Other / Off-topic / The Ether World Cup: A Prediction-Based Game with a Charitable Edge on: June 12, 2018, 01:38:19 AM
Hi everyone,

Two days ago I released https://ether-world-cup.com, an Ethereum network game for the World Cup.
The smart-contract implementation is available at https://etherscan.io/address/0x4c60e311d8fba04e313f7e7b3dec61b3028726d1.

The EWC is a prediction-based game where you pay one entry fee, and then log your guess of the winner of each match for the duration of the tournament (or a draw in the group stages!). Racking up streaks of correct predictions gains you momentum in the form of bonus points, and the best performing participants at the end of the tournament walk away with the prize pool.

Entry fee: 0.2018 Ether (requires Metamask on the site, or interact directly with the contract via MEW).
Barring gas costs for utility functions - placing predictions - this is the only cost associated with the game.

Fee split: 90% to prize pool, 5% to Giveth, 5% developer fee.

Prizes:
  • First: 40% of prize pool
  • Second: 30%
  • Third: 20%
  • Fourth: 10%

You can join at any time, but cannot place predictions for games which have already kicked-off.

Pretty minimalist UI: screenshot attached!

The rest of the rules [as they appear on the site] are included below - good luck, and have fun!

Welcome to the Ether World Cup!

This is a competition to determine your skills of prediction, with a charitable edge.
Although this is a soccer-based tournament, even those with no knowledge of the beautiful game can participate.

Will you make your predictions according to betting website odds?
Or just always vote for England to lose to remind them that 1966 was a one-off?
Use whatever strategy works for you (or just pick at random)! Good luck!

* Registering allows the sender to place predictions on each game in the World Cup.
* You cannot place a prediction on a game which has already occurred.
* Predictions can be made (and changed!) for games up until the designated kick-off time.
* Selecting the correct result for any given game awards the player one point.
* Selecting the incorrect result for any given game awards the player zero points and breaks any streak.
* In the first stage, a participant can predict a draw instead of an outright winner.
* Predicting a draw is not possible after the conclusion of the group stage.
* Failing to make a prediction for a game awards zero points and breaks any streak.

Streaks:

* Streaks of three consecutive correct predictions award one bonus point from the third match onwards until broken.
* Streaks of five consecutive correct predictions award an additional two points from the fifth match onwards until broken.

For example, a six-streak which is then broken followed by a correct prediction gives a resulting point-array of [1, 1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 0, 1] for a total of 15 points.

* Some games in the Group Stages are played simultaneously. For streak purposes, the order is that on the FIFA match page.

Tie-Breaking:

* In the event of a tie on points, the following algorithm is used to decide rankings:
- Compare the sum totals of the scores over the last 32 games.
- If this produces a draw as well, compare results of the last 16 games.
- This repeats (8, 4, ... ) until comparing the results of the final.
- If it's a dead heat throughout, the winner will be determined via coin-flip.

Jiyo is now active at Stakeunited.com, even if the dev is a fucking mongol, which I can´t say for sure.. I don´t even know if he is a mongol (i don´t even know what a mongol is.. is it some kind of actor?), and I certainly haven´t seen him doing what Savrion has seen him do... anyways, stake while you can or die trying  Cool

He definitely did say this:

Too many flags for me. I'm outta here as soon as I pull enough in from MNs to make enough of an edge to just flip it into a different alt.

Incidentally, does this look familiar? https://adirondack.io/

This is a scam coin, this the Dev. put on his Disord channel:
There are few MN holder don't want to price go up
i tried too many time i request you all please put your sell order above 2400-2500 satoshi we have buyer but you guys sold in 2000 satoshi you can get more profit but dont know why you put sell order below that amount so guys who have sellorder below 2500 please ut you r sell order above 2500 Thanks(gewijzigd)

Aye, this is something that set off alarm bells for me. If you truly believe in the utility of your coin, why would you care what the price is until the whitepaper is out and you're actively advertising?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JIYO - Decentralised Instant Private - Masternodes on: April 15, 2018, 03:13:46 AM
I have two JIYO Masternodes. I have three major complaints at this point:

1) There's a massive typo on the main page. 'Campaing' on the roadmap. I've asked for this to be corrected twice now and have had no response. If I had spotted this typo prior to setting up, I wouldn't have done so.

2) The whitepaper countdown on the main page is currently ticking up. As such, there's precisely no timeline in which to accurately peg a "there'll be news here" announcement.

3) Whilst the website looks slick beyond the two points I just mentioned, it's otherwise a nothing-burger. I definitely appreciate the fact that there's a working mainnet and staking system in place prior to a whitepaper release rather than the other way around, but I'm yet to see any significant use-case being discussed in the Discord apart from "make sure you sell your tokens at X satoshis" and questions regarding masternode setup.

I'm a blockchain developer myself. I'm more than willing to help with any non-price-sensitive work that needs to be done pro bono (and I've informed a dev of this). I write whitepapers for coins, and I'm also willing to help out with that too if needed. With that said, if these things aren't rectified soon or there's something of substance released, I'm tempted to just flip fifty thousand coins at a small profit, which seems a shame.

Bumping for visibility and requests for feedback! Smiley

If anyone would be so kind as to read through the whitepaper and give us their critique in this thread, we would truly appreciate it.

For the purposes of gathering information by reviews, we would be willing to re-imburse reviewers from our marketing wallet.

Note that by critique we mean comments of any stripe. Negative feedback is arguably more helpful than "great idea!", as it helps us work on what to explain better or focus more on.

Thanks in advance!

Just a quick announcement: this puzzle was solved - there's another thread on this forum describing our release: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3122922

Thanks to all who participated! The prize was eventually bumped up to 1 Ether, and congratulations to Zoma for winning!
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN][POV][PHX] Phoeniχcoin: An ERC223 Token Mined Through Proof-of-Volatility on: March 14, 2018, 11:50:30 AM
Hello everyone,

Yesterday, the EthPhoenix dApp development team released our whitepaper announcing the introduction of a new coin named Phoeniχcoin (PHX), which is mined using a - we believe - novel technique which we call `proof-of-volatility'. The coin is currently live and being mined. The webpage is https://phxcoin.io. Note that you require EPX tokens to participate - please read below the horizontal rule for details!

The abstract follows, along with the SSRN link (https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3140310):
"This paper introduces the underlying mechanics and interface for PhoeniχCoin (PHX), an Ethereum ERC223-compliant cryptocurrency. The supply of PHX tokens is tied directly to the Ethereum balance of the smart contract underpinning the ‘EthPhoenix’ decentralised application, and mined using a novel, generalisable technique we refer to as proof-of-volatility."

The intention is to use PhoeniχCoin as a gaming utility token forming the basis of a number of themed dApps which the PHX team is currently working on.
Our flagship is intended to be PyreBirds (http://pyrebirds.com). It's definitely not a CryptoKitties, we promise!

Your feedback would be invaluable, be it what it may. We would like to list on various DEX's, but should this not turn out to be possible, we have our own hand-rolled exchange contract ready to go. Either way, we are interested in what the wider community thinks of the concepts presented!

Thank you for reading.

Yours,

Norsefire

For additional (but unnecessary) context for the purposes of this thread:

The underlying contract from which this coin is structured is EthPhoenix (EPX), one of the multitude of buy-in-and-hold-for-dividends contracts doing the rounds lately which has some pyramidal properties but could more accurately be referred to as an emotion-based wealth redistribution game.

Moreover, the EPX contract is also the underlying for a futures contract named PyrMex (https://pyrmex.com), allowing wagers to be placed on the future Ether balance of the EPX contract with an interim time between end-of-betting and settlement wherein price manipulation is encouraged.

And we're only just getting started!

One small change there to flag - the main page is https://ethphoenix.io, not .com.

Good luck!
