1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: June 30, 2015, 09:07:53 PM
True that!

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."

The being said, it's not obviously running in the most optimal way but until it "zombies" (still not quite sure what that means) then I'll leave it as is.

I guess the takeaway from my problem is to use a USB hub rather than the USB 2 or 3 ports on my pc.

2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: June 30, 2015, 08:53:51 PM

I tried plugging it into my USB Hub that I run my BlockErupters on and started up cgminer and got this:

The U3 probably isn't compatible with block erupters, try it on that hub without them.

Thanks for the resposes!

The thing that seems odd to me is that it is showing as hashing both in cgminer as well as on my pool's website...
It seems the problem was plugging it in to my PC's USB ports because I didn't change anything other than to plug it into the powered USB hub.

Maybe get another powered USB hub?

Then again,  after all the headaches I've been through all last night and early morning, Idk if I want to change anything since I finally got it to hash...

Thanks again.

Okay, now this is getting VERY confusing, but at least it appears to be hashing somewhat.

I tried plugging it into my USB Hub that I run my BlockErupters on and started up cgminer and got this:

Can someone please make sense of this??   Huh

I need some help with getting my new U3 to be recognized *by cgminer*.

My computer recognizes it under devices and printers as the name of the driver; CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller).

I installed the driver (silabs USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx).
Then went to zadig and did everything correctly per Bitmain's U3 user guide.

Then when using cgminer (4.8.0, though it happened in older versions too) I get the following errors:

USB init, open device failed, err -12
You need to install a WinUSB driver for - CMR device 3:1 (after re-boot using different USB port- 3:2)
And associate - CMR device with WinUSB using zadig
See README.txt file included for help
BitMain detect <3:1> failed to initialize <incorrect device?>
No devices detected!
Waiting for USB hotplug devices or press q to quit

I've tried using different USB ports, though I dont think that's the issue as my computer always recotgnizes the device in System Panel.

Can someone please help?

Thanks.

I'm almost certain that is in the command line although I don't have access to it at the moment, I am using SSH to connect and see this:

(2s):146.3M (avg):382.6Mh/s | A:0  R:3  HW:0  U:0.0/m  WU:4.9/m
ST: 2  SS: 0  NB: 144  LW: 1488  GF: 29  RF: 0

If the lack of --scrypt was the issue, wouldn't there be none of the rejected shares? I'll post the config as soon as I can. Thanks for the response!
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Help with low accepted shares on: March 22, 2014, 08:55:52 PM
I know that I just posted another thread about an issue with my GPUs hashing at low hash rates (on my other computer) but I have a problem with my other miner that runs Ubuntu with cgminer 2.11.4

Now, for this, the hash rate seems to be what it should be (also using two 7770s). The problem (at least it seems like it's a problem) is that I appear to be getting very low numbers of accepted shares.

Here is the info from cgminer
(2s):453.2M (avg):377.4Mh/s | A:0  R:0  HW:0  U:0.0/m  WU:5.0/m
 ST: 2  SS: 0  NB: 8  LW: 92  GF: 3  RF: 0

 GPU 1:                | 193.4M/188.6Mh/s | A:0 R:0 HW:0 U:0.00/m I:15
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been running for about 10min (I restarted it after noticing the low accepted shares)

Any ideas?

Again, I'll gladly tip in LTC or BTC for some help.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Help with ridiculously low hash rate (2-7770s) on: March 22, 2014, 06:37:13 PM
I've tried searching for information about this and didn't really find anything that answers my question. I have all the various drivers installed and am running cgminer 3.7.2 with (2) 7770s (MSI R7770 PMDIGD5) and each card hashing at around 50kh/s (107.5 kh/s avg) and ~75 WU total.

Now, on the LTC mining hardware comparison chart, the lowest hash rate for a 7770 is 143kh/s and I'm not even getting close to that with TWO OF THEM..

Anyways, if anyone can help me get my hashrate up to where it should be I will gladly tip them in LTC or BTC for their effort (which it shouldn't take much of since I'm probably making a newb mistake)

Config file:

cgminer.exe --scrypt -u x.x -p x -o stratum+tcp://multi2.wemineall.com:5555 --gpu-fan 100,100 --gpu-engine 965,965 --gpu-memclock 1425,1425 -I 18,18 --lookup-gap 2 -g 1 -w 256,256 --thread-concurrency 8000,8000

Hardware info from AMD Catalyst Control Center

Memory Size 1024 MHz
Memory Clock 1125 MHz
Total Memory Bandwidth in GB/s 72.0

AMD OverDrive
GPU Clock 1300MHz
Memory Clock 1300MHz
Power 20%
Temp 33C
Fan 100%

PS. I had someone help me set this up and he had me input all those values twice, but I never see people do that so please feel free to tell me it's not necessary.

Thanks a bunch! Smiley
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Problems with GUIMiner-scrypt alpha on: December 22, 2013, 07:11:50 AM
Unbelievable. All I had to do was stop both miners (1st was hashing, 2nd was "connecting) and then start the 2nd miner 1st, then start the 1st miner and both are working. I have no idea why that was the only way to make it work

I was even trying cgminer to no avail.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Problems with GUIMiner-scrypt alpha on: December 22, 2013, 05:01:17 AM
Since this got moved and it ended up on an old page, I'll bump this.

The problem is still happening. I've tried different servers and still have the same issue.

Here is a photo of the console log:
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Problems with GUIMiner-scrypt alpha on: December 21, 2013, 10:52:40 AM
I recently started mining litecoins as it seems the best way to put my two 7770s to good use. I am running Win 8 x 64 and installed GUIMiner-scrypt alpha which is suppsedly built on the "standard" gui miner but allows for litecoins. Anyways, after inputting my info for the host, username, port, pass, etc for ONE of my cards, it started to work (albeit after a half hour of a status saying "Connecting").

When I set up a miner for my 2nd card (they're identical MSI R7770s), I used identical data (except for the worker name obviously) and it is still saying "Connecting".

Why does this app take so long to connect or start? Every 10 seconds or so the console is saying:
"*workername*": 19s0:0.000 (avg):(0.000h/s) | A:0 HW:0 WU:0.0/

My first worker is hashing away rather nicely while my second one with identical info is stuck on reading "Connecting"

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for clearing that up, I thought thats what you meant.
As far as power, the tower came with a 300 watt power supply but I can't believe it would use that much. Also, as far as ATI cards go, I'm starting to see just how expensive the PSUs are above 750w.

  • Is there any way to calculate the usage of the CPU, fan, etc? I know the power usage of the GPUs obviously.
  • If I already have this NVIDIA card that runs at 500watt, should I just return it and get an ATI? Is there any doubt it wouldn't be compatible?
  • I've been looking at the chart(s) but is there a general rule of thumb regarding model numbers (eg. 7750 vs 6750 vs 5850) when it comes to MH/s per watt?
  • I can't seem to find much about what the card identifiers actually mean. I'm wondering if the first number is a _____ then that means it's ______.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PCIe x1 GPUs on: December 17, 2013, 01:22:55 PM
Within a given model (ie. 6770) what is the better indicator of effective hashing; MHz or GB?

If a given card has a requirement of, say 450W, if I were to run those two in addition to my current card, what would my PSU need? I'm wondering if it's a linear relationship or not.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PCIe x1 GPUs on: December 17, 2013, 01:12:41 PM
EDIT: I'm not using CUDA, but rather, I am in the process of looking into it since apparently it is a much more efficient way to deal with NVIDIAs
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PCIe x1 GPUs on: December 17, 2013, 12:36:09 PM
Cost effective wise, if you're going to use Nvidia cards then don't attempt to mine SHA-256 coins, or even Scrypt coins above a difficulty of like 30 as your hashrates to earnings are almost likely going to be negative if factoring in Electrical and Internet costs.
If, however, you're on a flat rate tariff, whereby you pay a single rate for your electric and it doesn't increase, then mining any GPU (As long as you break even) would be well worth it on any coin.

There's no reason why that motherboard/computer cannot support an ATI card. Such person who told you otherwise either doesn't know what they're talking about or are heavily biased to certain setups and manufacturers.

As long as you have the headroom and ability to power the graphics card from your PSU, you'll be fine. Tongue
Alright thanks for the responses.

Glad to hear I can run ATI cards without any issues. What do you mean about "headroom" though?

This is very helpful and I do appreciate the comments re: my hashrate. Also, like someone said, it is something. Keep in mind though, that this is just the beginning to my mining rig with my ButterfylLabs Jalepeno 5GH/s and a few 333Mh/s ASICs. This is just going to supplement those, really.

Electrical costs and internet costs aren't really a factor for me also, as an aside. That being said, how much electricity does a 800watt PSU cost per/day?

I'm currently mining bitcoins just because I don't have any knowledge about the others although I would definitely appreciate some links so I could read up on some viable options. One of my pools also does Litecoin mining, but it's my understanding that those aren't really currency. What are some other good coins to look into?

Thanks again for all the help!
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PCIe x1 GPUs on: December 17, 2013, 12:08:39 PM
Well 1st of all, I'm in a pool so the luck factor isn't as applicable.

Also, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't run an ATI card with my tower (I was told it was due to having an Intel i3Pentium Dual-Core Processor). These are the specs:
https://www.asus.com/Desktops/M11AD/#specifications

Glad to know that a converter won't lower the hashrate. I think I'll just use two 1x to 16x PCI-E risers then.

  • So, was I misled about being able to run an ATI card in my comp?
  • I have a 500watt power supply so if I added a card or two, would I need to upgrade the power supply (the current card already needs 500w)?
  • What are some of the most cost-effective ATI cards these days? It seems that there is a point of diminishing returns with cost of the card/hashrate.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / PCIe x1 GPUs on: December 17, 2013, 11:27:29 AM
So I got a tower that has 1PCIe x16 and 2 PCIe x1s. I already got a good NVIDA GTX 650 Ti BOOST card (yeah I know I should use AMD but apparently it wasn't compatible). That is giving me around 70MH/s.

I am wondering how const-effective it would be to get two PCIe 1s. Has anyone used a small GPU like this with any success? What kind of performance is possible out of a PCIe 1?

Thanks!
