1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ [ANN][UFO] COMING FROM OUTER SPACE - JUST LAUNCHED ★★ on: January 18, 2014, 11:39:03 PM
Great name, lots of potential. Its a shame you choose the logo design you did, the idea has been copied from AlienCoin. I believe the UFO one you had before worked better with your name, and could have been made into a brand with a better version. Now we have two SciFi coins both with similar logos, when you should have differentiated yourself from the other. Innovate don't imitate.

I really can't see Nintendo giving a cra* about something this small,
But still.. I wouldn't touch it Shocked

You don't see them giving a crap about somebody profiteering from probably their most famous trademark?

You have the business acumen of a fish.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [LAUNCHED]MarioBrosCoin on: January 18, 2014, 11:07:13 AM
I find this Crypto world amazing. The amount of naive young kids releasing coins without any thought is staggering. Quite obviously, this is a registered trademark belonging to Nintendo. OP - you can't just pick a name belonging to a famous games manufacturer and expect to profiteer from it, I mean are you plain stupid?

I would shut this coin immediately no matter what you think, you'll receive a cease and desist letter and might even end up in court. Shelve this along with Coinye West and PayPalCoin. To anyone reading this thinking of releasing a coin with a recognizable name, do a trademark search first before you waste hours & days of your time releasing a coin that will die on its arse.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why premine is still widely accepted? on: January 15, 2014, 11:32:39 AM
There is no problem with a pre-mine, as long as the address is transparent and the bounties are rewarded to encourage growth. Because of the way most alt-coins explain their pre-mines, people just assume they are kept by the devs ready for a dump when it hits an exchange. This can be true, but if the pre-mine is transparent and all of the paid bounties can be seen, then the infrastructure of the coin is developed by the community thus increasing the coins value. Its a win-win situation.

One coin that has adopted this method and impressed me with their transparency is DigiByte - http://digibyte.co/pre-mine-accounts

What the hell were you thinking OP calling it PayPalCoin? Thats a trademark and they WILL close this coin down.

Massive fail..

Question: What is a trademark and why does it get special protection?

Answer: A trademark includes any word, name, symbol, or device, or any combination, used, or intended to be used, in commerce to identify and distinguish the goods of one manufacturer or seller from goods manufactured or sold by others, and to indicate the source of the goods. In short, a trademark is a brand name.

Consumers reap the benefit when trademarks are protected. By preventing anyone but the actual mark owner from labeling goods with the mark, it helps prevent consumers getting cheated by shoddy knock-off imitators. It encourages mark owners to maintain quality goods so that customers will reward them by looking for their label as an indication of excellence. Consumers as well as mark owners benefit from trademark laws.

Trademark owners spend a lot of time, money, and effort to protect the distinctiveness of their trademark. Once trademarks have become diluted to the point where the general public no longer recognizes them as distinctly applying to a particular manufacturer, they lose their value to the trademark owner because they no longer attract customers to his particular goods. For example, ?aspirin? used to be the trademark of one particular manufacturer of synthesized acetylsalicylic acid, but is now used to generically describe that product regardless of who produces it. Trademarks owners must be vigilant to make sure that their trademarks rights are not being infringed and that their trademarks are not becoming diluted or generic.

The birth of the Internet and the use of character strings (domain names) to represent Internet addresses has presented trademark owners with a whole new set of problems. It is often too expensive to register every variation of a trademark in every top level domain. Therefore, trademark owners must make sure that the people who register domain names that are either the same as or confusingly similar to a trademark are not using the domain name in a way that infringes on the trademark. One way to ensure that the trademark owner will not lose its rights in the mark is to file a UDRP complaint so that the Panel can decide whether the domain was registered in order to take unfair advantage of the mark owner. The Panel may decide that the trademark owner was wrong and had nothing to worry about, but unless the trademark owner is vigilant and files the complaint, it may never know for sure whether its rights were being abused.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 08, 2014, 07:27:12 PM
Absolutely. Well your design looks very good. As I said it's prob. the best. Simple, elegant. If you can make it even better then why not. I don't know what's the status on gjerics design, maybe hes been paid, I don't know

I tried all sorts of gambling elements, from playing cards, dice, lotto balls etc in the design. Everything was a distraction because you can over engineer logos. I have my own style anyway, it shows in all my designs. I love the clean modern Web2.0 look, its relevant to the audience that's using these coins. You can blow my design up for a billboard, or create a desktop icon from it, it stays readable and you recognize it immediately, its all about the word.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 08, 2014, 06:47:31 PM
I like the color choice, not a bad design. Rather simple. But if this is all you can do, then criticizing others is not the way to go

I have put my self out there now so flame me if you like. I've been doing this 15 years, I can do a lot more than you think, but I'm not going to sit here for days if it isn't wanted, lets hear some feedback first. I'm sat on millions of these coins, so if you think I won't speak my mind when I can see a mistake been made then you don't know me. There are others in this thread who have a lot of money invested in this coin and have spoke out, so this isn't a personal thing, its simply to make sure this coin makes maximum value so we all benefit.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 08, 2014, 10:57:05 AM
Can't comment on this. Why did you delete your post CoinMakr?? We need some advice

It quoted a post that was deleted. So I did the same.

And just sticking up for Funky, of course he isn't going to post a totally new design up, only for it be ignored. He's used an element from a previous idea to save time, or because he liked it, and to show you what a real vector looks like. Its head and shoulders above anything in this thread still. I'd make a couple of changes, but still, its not bad is it.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 08, 2014, 10:20:43 AM

Yeah he knows. He's trying to find ways to make it less '8ball'ish

Does he know tho, hes got his head in the sand. It should have NO ball in the middle, just the O.

This coin is aimed at casinos and gambling as its main use, why the persistence with a Lotto ball in the design, it doesn't work.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 07, 2014, 07:33:57 PM
The logos in this thread despite been noble efforts, are just not good enough. If you need a 2nd opinion other than mine, then the devs should speak to a real design studio. This logo has got to be solid if you want the coin to be taken seriously. It seems that because there wasn't a lot of entries, that any logo would do. This is a coin forum, not a design forum. I would seriously reconsider keeping this logo design open for now. If you go with this design, its a mistake, it needs to be a lot simpler. The coin just doesn't look polished or professional and it will damage the coins value in the long run.

This is why real logos cost a great deal of money, its not just the creative thought behind them, its the long term value that logo brings to the brand. The recognisablity of the design to the public is crucial, people shouldn't have to look two or three times at it to work out the coin. Some brands don't even need a logo to be recognised, colours can offer brand association. Cadburys in the UK have moved before to protect that shade of purple they use, because the public associate the colour purple with the chocolate they produce, and copycats have used that colour for their own chocolate to capitalise on that association, and steal their customers.

Bitcoin has this, that orange will be recognised and associated with the coin with just a glance in the future, especially when the logo is sat amongst the other coin logos, say on an exchange. I'm not sure this tea colour logo has any appeal at all, is it supposed to be gold?. BitCoin nailed their branding and spent a lot of time working out the look and feel. Major companies invest heavily in design, marketing and advertising for a reason. I've noticed that most altcoins are seriously lacking here despite the potential value of these coins, it just doesnt make sense to me to scrimp in this area. Invest and you'll be rewarded in spades.

For the latest design, there are too many elements, too many colours and its confused. It's also not scalable because those small versions are too fussy. The main use for this coin seems to be aimed towards casinos and gambling sites, yet you are keen on 'Lotto Colors' and 'Lotto Balls' as the main design feature? Whats going to be the coins main use then, the lotto? The 8 ball, is in fact a 'Pool Ball'. I even posted a picture earlier but everyones just blindly scrolled past it. The association with the game of pool will add further confusion. Its not a lotto ball, or a lucky Chinese ball, its a pool ball. Google it > 8 BALL. Every result and picture is relating to the game of Pool, which has nothing to do with it.

The devs should be developing the coin and infrastructure, and outsourcing the design, branding and marketing to the professionals. If you think I'm a troll, you've got me all wrong, I'm just well invested in this coin and I'm concerned the right people aren't in place to move it forward. It needs more than a dev to launch a coin. This is potentially a multi million pound brand and needs the support of a few knowledgeable people in the right areas for it to succeed, just like any real business. I'm doing all that I can to promote it and have other plans to help this coin. I simply want it to be taken seriously as a currency and for me/you to make a load of money in the process. Isn't that the goal for everyone on here, especially the devs?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CKC]CLOCKCOIN | SCRYPT | TIME IS MONEY... on: January 07, 2014, 08:39:50 AM
well I have tried, it was already taken by pool owner..

Well you/the OP should email the pool owner telling him that you should be made moderator of that subreddit and that its needed for the actual coin.

If the pool owner has any sense, he will give up that URL for the coin. The more exposure the coin receives, the more the coins HE is mining are worth.

Make it happen, that subreddit is useless for one link to a pool and its needed to promote the awareness of this coin.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LOTTO COIN - The coin thats a game! Released 12/12/13 on: January 07, 2014, 08:16:02 AM

wtf  Huh

Photoshopped changing Bitcoin for LOT?

I'm not so sure, it looks like a real pic. Look at the lottocoin.org text in the footer text. Doesn't look like a shop to me. Weird numbers tho?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LOTTO COIN - The coin thats a game! Released 12/12/13 on: January 07, 2014, 07:58:04 AM
Looks like someone from AMD is mining this

Hahahaha how did you find this?

0.794 LOT = $700

Let's do it

I don't get that figure or the image. 84kh is pathetic really, and 0.794 LOT is nothing isnt it? I mean 1 LOT is about 0.00022 btc unless I'm missing something obvious?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lottocoin redesign - Up to 1BTC on offer or 2,000,000 LOT on: January 07, 2014, 07:51:55 AM
Adding one color and flat version.

Getting closer for me, although I'm not sure on the tea colour and the pool ball in the middle, I preferred the normal O.

The 2d version looks better imo. Kudos to the effort on this. Smiley
