1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why is everyone all about mining pools?? on: January 15, 2014, 05:02:52 PM
Now I understand that pools are a necessary evil when difficulties get high, but personally I don't like them. For lower diff coins, why does it seem that everyone is dead set on pool mining?
You are basically cutting your profits in half by pool mining when you can solo a low diff coin and actually end up making more.

I guess I just don't understand why I read so many posts saying you need to spend more time pool mining, join a pool, etc etc.
Why would you voluntarily cut your profits in half? Wouldn't you want to maximize your mining time if at all possible?

Am I missing something here?

Can you detail your math or analysis that results in your conclusion "cut your profits in half"?

Multiminer is not working automaticly when i login windows 8.1 (I set that desktop comes directly when i turn on pc)

How to fix it ?

Works great for me - how far do you get when Windows 8.1 starts? Does the desktop appear? Does MultiMiner open but not start mining? Or something else?

Desktop opens directly. I see desktop when it open but multiminer doesnt working doesnt open multiminer software Sad

And have you enabled the "Launch when you login to Windows" and "Automatically start mining" options in MultiMiner's settings?

Why does my rig crash (hard - very hard - like I have to run Windows repair to get it back!) when I use per-GPU arguments like this?

Code:
-I 20 -g 1 --expiry 20 --scan-time 20 --thread-concurrency 21712 --gpu-engine 1100,1100,1145,1145 --gpu-memclock 1250,1250,1750,1750 --gpu-vddc 1.106,1.106,1.113,1.113

I have two pairs of 7950s in my rig - 2x Twin Frozer in the first two slots and 2x VaporX in slots three and four. When I run the same settings across all the GPUs with over clocking and undervolting set in MSI Afterburner, like the following, everything works OK, but the VaporX GPUs hash slower than they should:

Code:
-I 20 -g 1 --expiry 20 --scan-time 20 --thread-concurrency 21712

I disconnected the Twin Frozers and tuned until I came up with the best clock speed and voltage for the VaporX'es, but I can't figure out how to have different GPUs run on different settings.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Profit-switching scrypt+ASIC Pool] multipool.us on: December 29, 2013, 07:03:59 AM
Where can I find the comprehensive list of Multipool.us port numbers to use to mine specific coins?

The first post in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167635.msg1745511#msg1745511 lists some of the ports, but it doesn't include DMD (and maybe others) that are now mined on Multipool.us

What are the pros and cons of switching between coins using MultiMiner's profit-based switching versus using a profit-based switching mining pool like MultiPool.us ?

What is the advised technique to use the bfgminer terminal interface to tune GPU settings and hashing performance, then return to using the MultiMiner interface for day to day mining control?

Should I install a new copy of bgfminer and use that? May I use the bfgminer that MultiMiner installed? Thanks!

ps. I'm asking because I'd like to go through the tuning suggested here https://github.com/luke-jr/bfgminer/blob/bfgminer/README.scrypt and here http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/04/build-a-litecoin-mining-rig-optimization/ - and it seems that bgfminer provides the best interface for interactively changing settings and observing results.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why do GPUs crash when I switch from Litecoin to Dogecoin with same settings? on: December 22, 2013, 03:52:32 PM
I've got my two 7950s reliably mining Litecoin at ~650 Kh/s each.

But, when I switch to mining Dogecoin, leaving all the same settings in place, I get frequent GPUs crashes.

Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

GPUs: 2x MSI TwinFrozr III 7950
CPU: AMD A4 5300 3.4 GHz
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A85XA-G43
OS: Windows 8.1

Software: MultiMiner (totally awesome!) + bfgminer (of course)

Just getting started on tuning, but when mining Litecoins I get:

Settings: -I 18
Results: 70-74 temp, 53-63 fan, 577 Kh/s

I was unclear on whether I should enter flags in MultiMiner to configure overclocking and undervolting, or whether I should use MSI Afterburner - MultiMiner author Nate Wools set me straight and recommends MSI Afterburner, so that is what I'll be doing next!
