1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 12, 2014, 07:06:01 PM
When someone quotes my posts, I expect an answer to their content, not bringing side points and distractions.

First of all, I don't care about your politics and your Tea Party, I'm not a citizen of the United States.

Second, I looked into dogedir; after a LOL, I have to ask you to please not wasting my time and yours with insults to intelligence. Yes, perhaps Doge has a promising future, services wise. The future...

Third, nowhere I said I'm interested in BTC to get rid of fiat. I don't want to get rid of cash in hand. I was very explicit: centralization, payment processors, IMF.

I could go on and ask you where did I claimed "endless supply" and much more, but I rather stop wasting my time with this.

My apologies, perhaps it was less clear than I had thought.
The first 2 paragraphs where directed as a reply to you, after which it was aimed more in the general direction of other arguments presented in the thread.

Nor did I ever mean to infer that you were American, nor that I have anything todo with the Tea Party movement, but simply tried to offer a simile.
A more generic simile would be to ask if people are turning away from political parties dues to the existence of loud, populist, fringe parties taking up much media coverage. To which I believe the answer is a clear no, and would expect similar results for BTC and DogeCoin, though depending on the motives for their interest.

Your listing of "abusive credit card or payment processor fees, centralized control, IMF interventions, etc..." sounded more like a general complaint of the current system, especially with the etc at the end of the sentence, than 3 concrete problems that BTC could solve. But I must admit that I do not see how crypto currency can do anything about IMF interventions without trying to compete directly with the established system.

As for the "LOL" for dogedir, I have to agree and apologize for posting it. I just recalled there being a business directory for DogeCoins,  and didn't do a proper check of it.
A much better resource would be http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/1wthoq/where_can_you_actually_spend_dogecoins/ with http://shopdoge.com/ seeming to offer GPUs (but a very limited selection). Still a rather impressive listing for a coin that has only existed for 2 months.

I hope this clarified what I tried to convey in the previous post.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 12, 2014, 05:35:30 PM
This is perhaps one of the most foolish things I've read in a while.

If I want to hold value on a decentralized crypto, why should I ditch a serious well supported BTC? What does Doge offer which is better than BTC? Where can I buy a videocard, a perfume or a toy for my kid with Doge?

Edit: I'm starting to believe the view than some alt-coin shills are more than self-interested, either with an agenda or dangerous idiots. So, your focus is not taking a stand against abusive credit card or payment processor fees, centralized control, IMF interventions, etc... but against BTC itself, the invention that gave us some glimpse of freedom in the first place?

If you are interested in BTC from a political standpoint, as an alternative to fiat, why do you care about alt-coins making it look bad? Is the Tea Party driving people away from the Democrats?
Unless BTC can stand on its own merit, despite scam coins, how does it provide an alternative to the current economic system? If it is so fragile that a few thousand teenagers can overpower it, it doesn't seem to have the strength to be able to stand against the established system... Or do you believe that Doge is the established system trying to take down BTC?

As for where you can buy a toy, or many other things with Doge, why not have a look at the Doge Business Directory http://dogedir.com/ ?

It is also interesting to see the people saying that DogeCoins are dead, because there is an "endless supply", but this is then actually something new that DogeCoin brings to the SCRYPT scene. (ZetaCoin does the same for SHA-256) Yes, it isn't capped, but the inflation that will occur is starting at 5% and will steadily decrease until such time that it will not be noticeable. It will still have less inflation than BTC or LTC for some time after it reaches it's "soft cap" in 2015. This also helps to make it something other than a commodity, which any cryptocoin with limited supplies are, and as such probably a better alternative to fiat. (Just see how the gold standard fared in the last century...)

Lastly, the fact that DogeCoin has gotten a fleet of "crazy teenagers" spreading its "gospel" is what gives the coin a proper chance of success, instead of being something for just the technically minded people.
Do you think Facebook where the first of its kind? Google had an alternative that was used by techs way before, but it never took off. (I can't even remember its name despite having had an account there)
Similarly I believe the friendly, if a bit over-enthusiastic, community is the main asset of DogeCoin, and helps differentiate it in the sea of ever expanding altcoins.

EDIT: PS.
To Spoetnik, you say that the community of DogeCoin is only flashmining and bragging about how much money they have. That might be true of some on this board, but the same can be said for all coins, even BTC. But if you look at Reddit, or in the media coverage you so dislike, you will see that it also helped send the Jamaican Bobsleigh team, and an Indian Athlete, to the Olympics this year.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SSL][0%FEE] DOGECOIN POOL MINE! FAST-POOL.COM - ON CORRECT FORK! on: January 10, 2014, 07:26:11 PM
Would the new stratum show better results for me??? I am running 3 workers, 1st at 715Kh/s,  2nd at 390Kh/s and 3rd at 173Kh/s.

Would I see better results using the newer stratum with port 80 or should I stick to the old address.

I think you can keep mining at the normal stratum.

Shouldn't he get better results for at least the third worker, and possibly the second? As it is right now those would be mining with a much higher difficulty than neccessary, or do I misunderstand how it works?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] doge.scryptpools.com - DOWN UNTIL PENDING PAYOUTS ARE PROCESSED on: January 10, 2014, 07:18:37 PM
He has double payment issues around 24th..

so.. if he cant pay anybody.. Why didnt he:
1. Take his pool offline.
2. Inform on troubles on the site to make people leave for other pools (if he is not lying with his last info that 500 MHash made shit hit the fan)

Failing both of these DOES lead to scamming suspicion.. So your "baseless scammer namecalling" is the baseless statement..

If you have a failed service and are (mis)-handling value of some kind of a customer, and you know you cant pay the customer. you shut it down, until fixed.. or at least informs so the customer can choose to either continue to mine with the risk of not earning anything.. or move to a different pool to actually get paid. And to relieve the pool of its activity to help on the issues..

And then the last and most revealing hint that this is a scam..

I have said it many times. but here it goes again.

This pool had over 2.5GHash per second a long time..
ALOT of coins have been mined after his double payment issues.. Where is these doge's if he have to "get new coins" to pay us back?

IF THESE ARE GONE. its because _he_ removed them.. easy as that.

I didn't join the pool until the 26th, but got two payments after that. One manual at 4.6k on the 26th and one auto (which was set to 10k) for 21.3k on the 28th.
So the pool was operating and paying out, at least to some extent, until at least 26th Dec 04:35 GMT when I got my last payment. Thus leading me to hope that he did actually pay out a lot of the doges mined after the double payment issue. But what made him, or at least the site, stop paying out after that?

Is there any way he could have f***ed things up with a different branch? (Asking, as I don't quite understand how that works)

As for taking down the pool, didn't he at one point say he had to buy doge for BTC to pay out after the double payment? If so I can see how he might have reasoned that the trouble was mostly over and he would use the income from the pool to pay out the difference between what had been mined and what the pool had available until it balanced out.

Lastly, are we sure that no miners from the pool got a payment after the 28th?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Using Cloud Servers on: January 10, 2014, 03:02:01 PM
Not sure how viable cloud mining is, from a cost benefit perspective, but nice guide anyway.

But there is one problem with it, you are listing doge.scrytpools.com which haven't payed out any doges since about the 28th of december 2013, and the web page is currently down.

Please update it to another pool that is working, I'd suggest dogepool.net or perhaps fast-pool.com...
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] doge.scryptpools.com - DOWN UNTIL PENDING PAYOUTS ARE PROCESSED on: January 10, 2014, 02:49:09 PM
C) Miners - no payments
- The bounty 5 997 799 doge, is this for Phonetic too?
Kind of discount and help to get things right?

For my part he can happily discount the 15k doges as long as I get my remaining 37k doges, yes.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] doge.scryptpools.com - DOWN UNTIL PENDING PAYOUTS ARE PROCESSED on: January 10, 2014, 02:39:13 PM
Seeing as Phonetic started to respond in this thread again, I will remove my bounty for the identification until I see what happens, instead the 5k can be put towards the bounty for getting my doges back.
I don't want to be part of unmasking phonetics identity since some posters here seems to be slightly unbalanced.

It will also be very interesting to see how things go from here. Phonetic has at least shown up again, which to me is a good sign, now the question becomes if he will do what he can to pay out the doges due or simply buy more time to disappear.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt as I guess he is in the same boat as many of us. That means he is new to the scene, and just wanted to make a quick buck not quite knowing how the mining system works.
He says he got in over his head after the pool passed 500MH/s, at which point I am guessing he had to learn a lot about server administration faster than he had ever anticipated, not to mention how the scripts running the sites works. Now you can argue that many other sites are running the same, or similar, scripts and that they are readily available, but that doesn't mean they are bug free and don't have back doors.

From my personal experience with the quality of plugins to Jenkins CI, a continuous integration server used for testing software, there are a lot of bugs and shitty code in an enviroment where you would expect things to be tested and verified. Comparing that with the wild west of crypto currency mining, where everyone is out for a quick buck and not always in an honest way, I see absolutely no reason for the software&plugins to have have few bugs and scale well with no back doors! (Even this forums software has bugs in the timing of postings, warning of posting duplicates etc)

My suggestion to Phonetic to try and clear things up here would be to open a github account and post all the configuration files, along with what versions of which software was used, letting the people saying they are IT professionals go over them and verify the problems. That would be a token of good faith, and a way for others to get involved instead of being kept in the dark.

Clear things up?

He reported double payment issues around 25th..

He had a 2.5GHash mining pool in 2 weeks after that...
Generating alot of coins after the fuckup.
Where are these coins? and why cant he pay back what he have?

This case still stinks if you ask me..

And i think the Bounty was the only reason for Phonetic to buy more time to get away with it all. "Im back. Please put away bounties!"

I agree it stinks, I just prefer to give Phonetic the benefit of the doubt since he now apparently is posting again.
That is also the reason I suggested he post the configuration files to github, or similar service, so he can show how the double payment trouble came about and what he did to try and fix it.

namecointrader, I didn't mean to drop my bounty for retrieval, only for identification. So please set my total contribution to the retrieval bounty to 15k doges.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Dogecoin Pool doge.scryptpools.com - 2% fee on: January 09, 2014, 09:37:13 AM
Lost 50k+ so put me down for10k on the retrieval bounty and 5k for identity bounty...
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Dogecoin Pool doge.scryptpools.com - 2% fee on: December 29, 2013, 11:52:47 AM
On the other hand, I get more Doges here than I have gotten at other pools, so will keep on mining here for the time being.
None of the other pools mentioned in this thread comes near the hash rate of this one, making mining here more profitable, if at a slightly higher risk.

Hmm.  This pool is at 1.22 GH/s, which is 1220 MH/s.  It has a fee of 2%.  And it's not paying out currently, not sure if it ever will.

Multipool has 4911 MH/s pointing at DOGE atm, or 4.91 GH/s, and a fee of 1%.  And it pays out.

M

True, I should have added a caveat about this being only true for the doge only pools, and not Multipool.

But I, for some reason, prefer to mine a single currency and thus wil be sticking with this pool for the time being.
If you want to try another doge only pool, dogepool.net has been good with automatic payments and no down time for me..
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Dogecoin Pool doge.scryptpools.com - 2% fee on: December 29, 2013, 11:30:05 AM
I had a manual payment go through on the 26th, and an automatic on the 28th, but get the same error message as others about "you already have a manual transfer active" if I try to manually transfer out my coins now.

On the other hand, I get more Doges here than I have gotten at other pools, so will keep on mining here for the time being.
None of the other pools mentioned in this thread comes near the hash rate of this one, making mining here more profitable, if at a slightly higher risk.

Also, don't forget that it is Christmas, which can mean slight delays for any service.

So what is a reliable zero fee pool anyway? My primary one seems down.

And no, I'm not joining pools that are being spammed in this thread. Wink

I've been happy with dogepool.net, but haven't really tried many different ones.
Pays out quickly after finds, and pool has been unaffected by ddosing of the main site.

So all in all seems to be a nice and stable site.

Do you guys relies how absolutely ridiculous this dogecoin has made crypto's look? new investors looking into crypto for the first time, see this, and they walk away i can guarantee so hope the quick buck was worth it, i know a lot of investors, with a lot of money, and they have been monitoring the market caps of all the crypto's and they have lost interest completely, great work! these investors were about to pour 100's of thousands in, now there not.
And your point is?  The reality is they were monitoring.  That's like a person telling a salesperson, let me think about it.  They never buy.  Regular folks that never heard of crypto are becoming involved for the first time.  That is worth 100's of millions for all the cryptos.  You have to be able to see the big picture, long term.  Even TV shows are beginning to talk about BTC to educate people.  Let your friends keep their money, not needed here Wink

The norwegian IRS has now said they will tax profit from cryptos, or give tax exemption from loss, which again puts it even more in the eye of the media, so doubt it will be going away soon.
They only mention BitCoin, but will probably go after any successfull crypto. Interestingly enough
But which coins survive on the other hand...
Statement from norwegian IRS, in norwegian.
Coverage in Norwegian media.
Thread about this, and english translation here

As for investors, there are so many people entering and exiting the crypto market, doubt it would make much difference to dogecoin just yet if people you know didn't invest after all.
If they are risk averse, as your statement seems, they would have ignored the market anyway, since it is a very high risk market at the moment. (Going by fluctuations in exchange rates at coinwarz.com)
And if they are risk seekers, they would invest, as they would also see, as digitalradz said, that "normal" people are hitting on using crypto, making it a high risk, high yield proposition...

I just wish I started doing dogecoin a week or two ago... Much good, to the moon we go!

Got a couple of GPUs up and running for 1280KH/s, love my gaming rigs, and got to turn of the heater. Much win! Smiley

Will be interesting to see how this flies...

doge to the moon, take me with!
