1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Social Kapital - 164 Ether Bounty Program / Crowdsale starting today. on: June 20, 2016, 10:45:58 PM
There is some escrow?

this is way more advanced than escrow. The funds are in a contract controlled by shareholders.
furthermore, you can withdraw you funds at any time by calling a function in the blockchain
contract... we have various blog post that provides tons of information

I really do not like the idea of ICO's only investing with Eth, would have preferred to invest with btc.

Btc and altcoins.

use shapeshift to convert to ether...

the ico page provides the way to do this

I would have to buy ETH again to participate?  Grin

there is no seemless way to accept bitcoin on the ethereum platform. however,
shapeshift and myetherwallet makes participation straightforward

We have just released the smart contracts that define how the Social Kapital organisation works at github

https://github.com/socialkapital/fin-and-ops-contracts-g1

For the benefit of non programmers, this blog post provides a quick read that answers
your most basic questions.

https://medium.com/@social_kapital/social-kapital-blockchain-contracts-101-34ee9ae2146f

To reiterate.

(1) when you buy shares in social kapital, your ether is sent directly to the treasury
contract controlled by shareholders

(2) if you decide to exit the fund, you call a function in the share contract and your
shareholding tokens (florin) is exchanged for ether in minutes

(3) shareholders collectively vote on why and when ether is moved from the treasury
contract to committee multi-signature wallets

Newbie accounts, ICO, anonymous devs...

Red flags everywhere!

hatsheosut93, you registered on bitcointalk in april 2016, I registered in dec 2013. who is
really the newbie.

I hope you understand what smart contracts mean. You are sending coin to a blockchain
contract and withdrawing money from same blockchain contract controlled by shareholders.

The entire codebase (ethereum block chain contracts) will be published next week, so
watch out for that, then came back and tell us what the code does. When it is deployed
on the blockchain, tells us how it works. There is nothing you have invested in that is
close to giving you this sort of control.

you are been offered the opporunity to be part of something unique, too bad you cannot
see that

Yes another crowdfunding yay!
are you also offering bounties for promoting the crowdfunding through signature campaign?  you'd really get a lot of attention when doing so.

Yes another crowdfunding but one like no other.

THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN
=====================

You "pledge" some money, join our community on june 20th and see what we are doing.
Check out the investments been proposed. Assess how the community is developing
ideas and finally before the 60 days, assess the first investment the DAO will make.

If all this is not to your liking, you pull up the contract, hit sale florin and hey presto, your
ether is in your wallet. And you walk away.

THE UPSIDES
===============

(1) You join a first mover DAO investment fund with the right winning strategy

(2) The investments been made increase the value (past book value) of the fund
and investments also make profits for shareholders

I love the fact that you've got a special role for the 'devil's advocate'!

That's a role I often find myself in.

Grin I like that role as well. Wisdom of the crowds for all its power
can turn to delusions of the crowd, if groupthink sets in.
the devil's advocates are there to spread a CULTURE that dissent
and independent thinking is a good thing. Actually, that is the
strength of group decision making.

Irrespective of whether the devil's advocate is right or wrong, they
still get rewarded well....

Is there a escrow?

This is better than escrow. ether raised is held in a contract controlled by shareholders.
you can exit investment at any time by calling a contract function and your FLORIN
will be exchanged for ETHER based on the fund's book value.

Who is Social Kapital.?

I am Sirus Knight a co founder of Social Kapital
https://www.linkedin.com/in/sirus-knight-9292a0121

More importantly, Social Kapital is immortal (cannot be deleted) and immutable
(cannot be changed) software on the ethereum blockchain. We are going to publish
the entire codebase at github and this event will be announced on bitcointalk, the
ethereum forum and to the press. Lots of people will take a look at the code and
confirm whether it does what we are saying.

And here is what the code does...

(1) 100% of the ether received is held in a contract controlled by shareholders

(2) Shareholders decide which investments to make and how profits are shared

(3) Anybody can exit the DAO at anytime by calling a function. The contract
calculates your share of ether book value and pays this out once the block
is mined.

Here is the Social Kapital voting protocol
https://medium.com/@social_kapital/social-kapital-gridlock-fd51dcd5ca6e

Now, the question is how many coins have you invested in that gives you this sort
of control over the business and your funds?

We are over excited about the social kapital opportunity. It is not about me or you.
It is about what the crowd, what the community is capable of when there is common
purpose (build great businesses and make lots of money).

Social Kapital is about pooling funds, talent and networks together to build
businesses with the rules of association defined by blockchain software.

Don't trust Sirus Knight, trust the blockchain, trust software!

This sounds very interesting, how will this differ from The DAO?

They seem to be similar in nature.

Well they are both decentralised investments funds built on the ethereum platform. But their
investment approach and reward structure is quite different. Keep in mind that Social Kapital
has been under development longer (check domain name registrations) than the DAO

We believe Social Kapital has the better investment approach and reward structure and hence
will provide better shareholder value. The DAO has been trading at BOOK VALUE (the amount of
ether held in the contract) since launch. We intend to come out of the crowdsale with momentum
So, the community will be working on our first investment within the 60 day crowdsale.

I am confident we will announce an exciting investment before the end of the 60 day crowdsale,
because the key idea behind Social Kapital is crowd sourced business development.

Here is a detailed description of our investment process
https://medium.com/@social_kapital/the-social-kapital-investment-process-8f14c8b1d083

Here is our investment approach in a nutshell
https://www.socialkapital.co/approach/

I would like to point out how an investment DAO works.

(1) Shareholder ether is held in a blockchain contract controlled by shareholders (THE BOOK VALUE)
(2) You can exit the DAO at any time by calling a software function. Social Kapital makes this
process far much easy than the DAO. At Social Kapital, exit happens in seconds. With the DAO
exit is a bit complicated.

The investment RISK and REWARD boils down to the investments made. So, to invest in
a DAO fund, you need to look carefully at how the fund makes investments.
