1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin can not become a global currency on: November 05, 2019, 12:46:01 PM
For Bitcoin to be accepted as a global currency it needs regulations. The bitcoin price volatility is freaking the people out and the governments as well. therefore for bitcoin to be accepted as a global currency the high price volatility must be contained.

I'm not following you here. Are you making two separate points, one about regulation and the other about price volatility, or are you somehow suggesting that price volatility can in some way be contained by regulation? How are these two things connected?
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Bounces Back Above $8200, Are Bulls Finally Here? on: October 23, 2019, 10:12:05 PM
BTC is $7500 as I write. BULLS??  I am seeing Bears are back in the market  Angry Angry
And as *I* write this, bitcoin is at $7433.  I was going to write exactly what you wrote.  I'm not certain what kind of psychotropic compound op is smoking, but the bulls have left the building and are out drinking at a bar somewhere.  All that's left are the bears, and they are looking mean.

Worry not.  When those bulls recover from their collective hangover they will oust the bears from the premises and take control of the situation.  The bottom has arrived and I am hoping there are brighter days ahead.  I do hope the bartender shuts them down at the appropriate hour.

Some posts don't age well, but this one fared tragically within the space of just a few hours.

Accomplishment unlocked: Tragic post.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Ransomware Be Driving Up Bitcoin Prices? on: October 23, 2019, 10:02:29 PM
If ransomware is driving up the cost of bitcoin it's not doing a very good job. Seriously bud, what on earth are you talking about?

We're in a crab market. Now shoosh and stop wasting everybody's time.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Google's Quantum Computer Destroy Bitcoin? on: October 23, 2019, 09:52:33 PM
According to external sources, Google has already designed a Quantum Computer that's much more powerful than its competitors (like IBM and other mainstream companies working on this).

This is wrong. It's wrong on many, many levels, but at the simplest level IBM has explained that Google have not reached so-called Quantum Supremacy.

From a blog post by IBM:

Quote
In the paper, it is argued that their device reached “quantum supremacy” and that “a state-of-the-art supercomputer would require approximately 10,000 years to perform the equivalent task.” We argue that an ideal simulation of the same task can be performed on a classical system in 2.5 days and with far greater fidelity. This is in fact a conservative, worst-case estimate, and we expect that with additional refinements the classical cost of the simulation can be further reduced.

In other words, this new system is not the great leap forward that some lazy hack journalists would have you believe.

Further...

Anyone who tells you that this or any other quantum computer can brute force private keys doesn't know what they're talking about. There are more BTC private key combinations than there are atoms in the entire universe.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another *Potential* Identifying Piece of Evidence on Satoshi on: October 23, 2019, 07:48:07 PM
<snip>

I think for the reasons already outlined by others this is probably not the best clue as to the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, but while I agree on that, I have to give you credit for the effort you put in. I don't think there's anything wrong in investigating the topic or speculating.

Good effort, stay curious buddy.

2. High consumption of electricity in running the network etc.

What is the problem here? The banking system uses a lot more electricity, yet people never complained, not even ecologists. Most of the electricity to mine comes from renewable energies. The energy that would otherwise be lost: even if there is no demand, the sun continues to shine, it doesn't care if you need electricity.

This is exactly right. I'm sure most of the arguments are well-worn but I outlined a few in The Currencies That Are Killing Our Planet.

Quote
Fiat not only consumes more energy in its birth than bitcoin mining (11 terawatt hours versus 8.27) but fiat is doubly damaging at its death, when it must be destroyed by burning, releasing even more CO2 into the atmosphere.

Quote
A 2010 study by Ahlers found that the printing of the U.S. dollar alone used 3,530 tonnes of ink, over 7,100 tonnes of cotton and 2,300 tonnes of linen. Waste products from its manufacture include a total of 2,720 tonnes of pulp and ink sludge.

Quote
....the power use of bitcoin mining expressed as a percentage of global energy consumption is only 0.13%.

The whole 'high energy consumption' meme regarding bitcoin and crypto is just another attack on BTC similar to and with the same kind of validity as 'but criminals use it'.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Brexit became the reason of Bitcoin’s downfall? on: October 17, 2019, 02:11:14 PM
Note: There’s an issue with the link you provided (it bears an extra set of https:// and the quotation marks in the URL can be dropped). Additionally, the Independent is pretty persistent with Ad blocker thingy. This site leads to a similar content (with no Ad blocker): https://en.ethereumworldnews.com/ceo-claims-no-deal-brexit-could-spark-unprecedented-bitcoin-breakout/

Thanks buddy, I think I was partly confusing UBB and HTML. Fixed.

Good point regards news sources, I'll avoid adblocker content in future.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and kiddie porn on: October 17, 2019, 11:38:06 AM
But people are going to read these stories and see bitcoin.

This is how a smear works, but this does not point to any fundamental problem with bitcoin itself.

How about Dr Doom aka Nouriel Roubini?

From BBC News

Quote
Prof Roubini, who foresaw the financial crisis, says Bitcoin is "overhyped".

At a summit in Taiwan on Tuesday, he likened it to a "cesspool".

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Brexit became the reason of Bitcoin’s downfall? on: October 17, 2019, 11:11:25 AM
The central idea that Brexit will harm BTC is not supported by the quote from Nicholas Gregory on which the article is based.

He says: ‘’Come 2020, we expect an increasingly populist and politically unstable world to cement the safe-haven status of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies…and if the central banks revert to ramping up the money printing all over again, the case for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin whose supply is capped will be further reinforced.’’

He seems to think Brexit will in fact be a good thing for bitcoin.

Looking at the the same interview as reported by the Independent newspaper (way back in August) the meaning of his statement becomes much clearer.

Nicholas Gregory says: “Bitcoin has rediscovered its mojo this year with multiple mini surges but a no-deal Brexit could see a massive and unprecedented breakout. Not only will a no-deal departure from the EU create turmoil and volatility across two major fiat currencies, it will also trigger an identity crisis for the global system as the contingency and vulnerability of major global fiat currencies is laid bare.”

This is bullish news being reported as bearish by someone who is transparently trying to shill a bitcoin trading platform.

TL;DR: Clickbait, terrible journalism by someone who doesn't understand bitcoin.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as Safe Haven? on: October 16, 2019, 08:12:38 PM
I realise that BTC has gone down a bit this past week and hasn't been bullish for a while now, but isn't it a stretch to say it keeps going down? I'm no trader but the price action seems pretty sideways and has been for a long time.

What's the connection to Decentraland?
12  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC TO 35K$ IN 2020 on: October 16, 2019, 07:53:46 PM

BTC is scam more INFO> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2883851.0

If BTC drop to 1K$ than next wave of panic will be started and BTC price can easly drop to about 100$.

Now you believe the price will reach $30,000? what made you change your mind?

Ouch! Talk about a beat down!
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin can not become a global currency on: October 16, 2019, 07:44:42 PM
A lot of stuff that OP is advocating for sounds completely antithetical to the whole spirit of Bitcoin. I'm sorry, but this simply doesn't make any sense.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you are Satoshi Millionaire? on: October 16, 2019, 07:36:50 PM
Satoshi Millionaire is one, who has 1 million Satoshi, i.e. 0.01 BTC.

There was a time when new entrants wanted to reach goal of 21 BTC, i.e. one in a million. Then it became Satoshi Billionaire, i.e. 10 BTC. Then 21 million club, i.e. 1 BTC. Now, owning 1 BTC is difficult and being a Satoshi Millionaire is the new goal.

Who knows, one day if I scrimp and save and don't eat or turn on the lights or turn up the heating and keep working hard every hour of every day I might eventually get there.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 10 Years From Now: Bitcoin Overtaking PayPal? on: October 15, 2019, 09:37:25 PM
PayPal is a payment system while Bitcoin is a currency. You might ask could Bitpay overtake PayPal.

Perhaps that's the slightly more incisive question, although I believe the two have actually had a partnership for years. Bitpay overtaking PayPal would really be dependent on crypto overtaking fiat, so that returns us to the crypto/fiat debate.
16  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia to meddle in US presidential elections 2020 on: October 07, 2019, 11:30:38 AM
This whole election meddling issue was brought about by Hilary Clinton and the DNC who couldn't just accept that Donald Trump was able to beat them in the Election, they have spent the last three years trying to discredit his victory all to nought. The Muller investigations yielded no concrete evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

Correct. The dems couldn't just accept that they lost because they had a horrible candidate. The sooner they move on from the Russia phantom the better for them.

does that mean she can't be a fraudster?

Did I appear to make that point? The question was asked so I answered it.

These two can more than afford to pay the bounty team all monies due.

She was made a member of the House of Lords (UK Parliament Upper House) for life and has an OBE (Order of the British Empire). She was the business Tsar for the UK Government at one point.

She is a multi-millionaire and her co-founder partner is a billionaire.
