2  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: September 10, 2012, 11:23:53 PM
I just noticed a new player. I'm not going to be shutting the site down (since it doesn't cost anything to run), but I'm just going to honor the ticket refunds I promised earlier (which has happened).

Any tickets purchased after this date won't be refunded, but you can always withdraw your balances.
3  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: September 10, 2012, 06:13:53 PM
If in a few months nothing really changes I'll refund the ticket purchases and send back all of the bitcoins. I'm constantly watching it along with this thread.
Doesn't really look like this has gotten traction.  Any updates?

The tickets have been refunded and you should be able to withdraw your bitcoins. I'll refund them manually when I get the chance but you should be able to login and get them now if you don't want to wait.

Before the round starts, pick a 64 digit number, and publish its sha256 hash.

Each player picks a digit 0 through 9 when they buy their ticket.  Publish each player's number alongside their entry.

When all the tickets are sold, put the 10 player digits on the end of your 64 digit number, re-hash it, and use that hash to decide the winner.  (For instance, take the first 4 bits of the hash.  If they are in the range 0 through 9, you have a winner, else add one to your 64 digit number and repeat).

Publish the 64 digit number and the 10 player digits.  Then each player can verify that you didn't cheat.

There's still a slight problem in that you could buy the last ticket.  Since you know the other 9 players' digits and the 64 digit number, you can try all ten possibilities for the your own choice of digit and probably find one that makes you win.  I don't see a way around that at the moment.

Doesn't sound like it would be too hard to implement, also when a player buys a ticket that number is locked in, I can't pick that number. If someone has ticket #5 I can't also buy ticket #5.

Another issue with these style raffles - there is no end date. Raffles usually sell the most at the start and just before closing.

I cannot tell if I lost a game currently.

They end when all of the tickets are purchased, I could set expiration dates but not sure how to handle the money on the spent tickets, since there isn’t enough to do a payout.

I guess I could return the coins (minus a fee perhaps).
5  Economy / Economics / Re: TEM - Greece Currency on: July 08, 2012, 06:10:57 AM
hmmm... no one is allowed to accumulate more than 1200 tem, nice.  Cheesy

So how does one save up to buy a car?
Or buy real estate?
Or engage in more complicated lines of production?

That's why it won't work in a more complicated economy. Accumulation of wealth isn't the problem, the problem is the government, regulatory rackets to benefit big business, taxing rackets to benefit big business.
6  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: July 06, 2012, 05:53:33 PM
Would this before, or after the round finishes?

I could expose a lot of stats when the rounds finish.

8  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: June 24, 2012, 05:42:27 AM
well I just played several rounds to give the game a trial.

suggestions:
your site needs a FAQ for the players.

I'll add one.

each game should show its end time or do you just play until all tickets are sold ?

The game runs until all of the tickets are sold.

As for random number issues, (Im still a bit groggy from my recovery) but I dont see any exposed secrets ?

Not quite sure what you mean by an exposed secret, but im assuming a piece of data to confirm that the random number generated wasn't pre-selected?

I made several bets to get the games rolling for you.

Thank you.
9  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: June 24, 2012, 01:20:45 AM
We're still up. =)

The next round to finish, I'm going to be rewarding the winner with a double payout.
10  Economy / Economics / Re: Velocity of Bitcoin and Deflation on: June 10, 2012, 06:46:53 AM
I am an amateur at best in economics, did well in school though.

I hope it wasn't 'economic classes'.

You're going to have to do a lot of unlearning, all of that crap is wrong. Just look at everyone in government central economic planning with all of their degrees and their absolutely terrible job.

You wouldn't hire a doctor that has a 100% record of his patients dying.
11  Economy / Economics / Re: Velocity of Bitcoin and Deflation on: June 10, 2012, 05:26:34 AM
Deflation means that in order to get people to spend their money you must actually offer products and services that are compelling enough on their own merits to convince them to part with currency. Inflation pushes people towards unnecessary consumption because the are driven to spend their money more quickly as it loses value.

Naturally people who want a system that allows them to live comfortable lives by skimming value away from the productive prefer inflation and high velocity to deflation and capital formation.

This is one of the best answers I've seen, I'm stealing this.

Here is another SHORT video, on same topic, side view.

This video is probably nothing new to old Bitcoiners.

Although it is rather  professional, well read, text.

Enjoy.

Good vid, zerohedge is pretty good.

14  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Proposal - Looking for feedback on: June 08, 2012, 03:37:57 PM
This sounds similiar to BTCBlink, except I'm doing 1 in 10 odds.
I haven't been to the site, so I will just ask here...

At what payout rate ? 10x wager as well ?

8.33x payout.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled in November 2002 that the Federal Wire Act prohibits electronic transmission of information for sports betting across telecommunications lines but affirmed a lower court ruling that the Wire Act "'in plain language' does not prohibit Internet gambling on a game of chance." But the federal Department of Justice continues, publicly, to take the position that the Wire Act covers all forms of gambling.

In other words: they will still arrest your ass.  I don't want to be arrested.  I see you are operating out of LA AnonymousBat, what is your legal strategy, if I can ask.

The federal government has a knack for twisting things, it doesn't matter if it's the law. It's like when they use the interstate commerce clause to tell farmers that they can't grow food on their own property.

In other words, even if you find a way to do it legally, they'll find a way to get you. Even if they *think* it's illegal when it's not, you're hosed.

What I'm doing is really legally no different than everything else I'm doing. I don't engage in fraud, theft, or hurt people so I know that I'm on a high moral ground.

I choose dangerous liberty over peaceful slavery. Better to die free than to be a slave.

In my case, I have nothing to lose. If my site fails the chances of me being prosecuted for it are slim, if it succeeds to the point where they come after me, chances I'll have the resources to defend myself against their unconstitutional acts.

Quote
An unconstitutional act is not a law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; it affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation as inoperative as though it had never been passed.
 -Norton v. Shelby County, 118 U.S. 425 (1886)

It's too bad it's not gold, because say I actually did gold instead of bitcoin and then they tried to claim I was running an illegal gambling ring, I could just argue that gold is not money and bring my star witness, the chairman of the federal reserve.

Gold isn't money!

:p
17  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Proposal - Looking for feedback on: June 07, 2012, 10:23:10 PM
I actually found BTCBlink after I posted in this thread... and yes they are very similar.

How have the results on BTCBlink been?

It's still just starting. I think since I'm kind of new people are not sure whether to trust it yet. Overtime as people experiment with it and they get their payouts people will be willing to try it.

It's just a matter of getting the first legitimate users.
18  Economy / Gambling / Re: Running a site legally (OR how to do it and not get a boyfriend?) on: June 07, 2012, 09:54:09 PM
Not only that, but the US government is basically going to have to make the argument that gambling with fake money is somehow illegal, and if that's the case, well, they better go after all of those online MMORPG's that have ways players can gamble fake money.

This is a very good point; however I don't really want to be the one to test that in the courts Wink

The courts are not about justice, you already break enough laws every day to be put in jail for years.

Not only that, but the US government is basically going to have to make the argument that gambling with fake money is somehow illegal, and if that's the case, well, they better go after all of those online MMORPG's that have ways players can gamble fake money.

My guess is that they would start looking at the income (my income) and having me justify it or seize that, saying that it was part of a criminal enterprise.

It would be foolish to convert too much of the Bitcoins to USD, I would keep them out of the US, and build things outside of their jurisdiction. Cash out enough to live off of and pay all applicable taxes on that.

But for everything else? Build out in a more sane country with the remaining resources.

You might want to add a disclaimer that these are your opinions.

I am quite certain that everyone already understands that posts on an internet board are mostly all, opinion. It would be redundant to have such a disclaimer.

I will add the disclaimer that this probably isn't very good advice.

You might want to add a disclaimer that these are your opinions. Wink

I will also add that SatoshiDICE does not use the web for its gambling platform.  I can play SatoshiDICE without ever touching their web site or connecting to their servers.  Because of Bitcoin's architecture, it is not technically possible for SatoshiDICE to detect where I am wagering from.

Not if you're using a VPN, or logging into a dedicated server located in a remote country and wagering from there.

By the way, federal anti-gambling laws in the United States are unconstitutional, especially since it’s legal for some people, while illegal for others. Think of it this way, say lobbyists from Las Vegas lobbied the federal government to make certain kinds of gambling illegal, unless the states had laws legalizing it prior to the federal law.

Sounds like a protection racket to me, and you guessed it, unconstitutional. The federal government can't pass a law that bans states other than Florida from growing oranges.

20  Economy / Gambling / Re: Running a site legally (OR how to do it and not get a boyfriend?) on: June 07, 2012, 08:41:42 PM
I would keep everything in Bitcoins when running the site.

Remember, Bitcoins isn't real money, it's not even backed by any government!

By keeping everything in Bitcoins, there is technically no money for them to seize. Let the players figure out how to convert it.

You can store them in such a way where if you do get busted you can still have a third party honor all of your players withdrawals.

The only way you will get busted is if you get pretty big and actually start making out pretty good, once that becomes the case you will also be in a better position to defend yourself, especially if your resources can’t be illegally confiscated.

Not only that, but the US government is basically going to have to make the argument that gambling with fake money is somehow illegal, and if that's the case, well, they better go after all of those online MMORPG's that have ways players can gamble fake money.
