1  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: February 24, 2014, 01:26:17 AM
Is the bitcoin pool having isssues. Since 2014-02-23 04:22:41 AM block shift, I have noticed a sudden drop in number of blocks, pay per share has has been cut by 10 and last few shifts are plain zeros.

I something up or am I missing something ?

I think this is just a period of bad luck.  It will turn around.

I expect commercial interests to take over the role of mining once the number of coins per block diminishes enough—the value of BTC will define was "diminishes enough" means. Certainly within 20 years, probably sooner.

Mining for transactions fees will become a low margin business, and as such will be handled by corporate interests who can invest enough on the infrastructure side to maximize profits. I could definitely see exchanges (or whatever replaces the exchanges) engaging in this as not only a side business, but a service for their users to ensures fast transactions.

So say I from my Throne of Prognostication™.

I disagree. I suspect that when it gets to the point where it is just transaction fees, or close to that, and the exchange rate hasn't compensated for it, then it will be the Hobbyists and people who just just want to support the coin that will remain. The big guys will move on to the next big thing. I can see a day when there are so few miners mining that people will be able to solo mine with a reasonable variance.

When this occurs I would expect we'll see the difficulty trending downward then in order to maintain the 10 minute block time.  With the meteoric rise in difficulty, which has gone uncoupled with the value of the bitcoin, I would bet this will happen sooner rather than later.

It's just bad luck.  The pool has found no blocks.  It will pick up again.  It always does.   Grin

Bad luck hmmm
I'm running just over 1060Ghs
thats a LOT of bad lock  Wink

A couple days ago the luck was over 205%.  Looks like over the last 24 hours it's been about 117%.  If you've been with the pool for the last 24 hours your ahead of the game.  The bitcoin lottery probability will vary over the short term, but you're hash rate will always reward you over the long term.

I for one would not care what the luck was within a certain time period because it has absolutely no indication of future luck.  As a miner, my needs are simple:

How many bitcoins have I made.
Email me when my miner is down

BTC Guild does that and more.  Plus it's up all the time....

My tolerance for Cyper's whine has hit a limit and I've ignored.  Thanks for the great pool El!

Painful it is to watch.  But the worm will turn.

Ditto Eleuthria.  Happy New Year!  BTC Guild was my first experience in mining and I must say it has been pleasant and pain free.  This is the best place to put your hashes.

@eleuthria

Could you tell me what is the time period used for the "24 hour earnings" box at the top ?
I notice the past 2 hours have been good luck, but my 24 hour earnings have fallen in the same interval.
It would also appear that blocks do not appear on the "your recent block rewards" until one subsequent block has been accepted to the blockchain ?

My bet is that 24 hours is used to calculate 24 hour earnings.  If your 24 hour earnings go down after 2 hours of good luck, then the other 22 hours were not so lucky perhaps.

Regular working day in the UK?  It's boxing day!

According to the wiki it's a banking holiday in the UK.

I'm rather new to the BTC scene, and I've found that BTC Guild is the most stable pool that is always there and isn't a subject of ddos attacks that I've seen in other pools lately.

I will gladly pay a fee above standard for a reliable, secure pool.

There's nothing keeping you from donating 2%.  I think the updates to the Doge 1.3 will provide much stability.  You can see the hash rate going up.

I think the altcoins serve a purpose to make the bitcoin stronger overall through innovation.
