1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo LTC Image and Support thread on: May 11, 2020, 05:08:56 PM
I have 2 batch 1 Apollos and have installed the upgrade kit on one of them. I have 2 questions:

1.  Everything seems to be working fine on the upgraded Apollo, although the miner dashboard shows the hashrate 121.19 and does not change.  Is this a glitch on the new image?

2.  I ran both Apollos on the original image for months without interruption. (Using Litecoinpool).  Prior to the latest upgrade I put image 1_29 on both Apollos and each day or two they would disconnect from the pool. Although still online, I suspected something related to the Infinity pod they are on in my garage so I connected both via wireless and it seemed to improve.  Now that I have one using the full node image and one using 1_29 the full node image seems to stay connected to the pool, but the other drops off each day and I must reboot the Apollo to reconnect.  My question is can I use the full node image on the Apollo that is not upgraded?

Appreciate the help.

Also of interest, I found a block on litecoinpool a couple of days ago.  First time ever.  Of course mining on the pool there was no monetary reward for it, but interesting!

Optimizing efficiency using custom mode

I spent some time playing around with custom mode with the target of optimizing the unit efficiency while keeping the hashrate the same as in eco mode. Here are some findings and instructions that may be of use to also others.

[SNIP]

Nice writeup!

I changed my 2 Apollos to balanced mode about 6 weeks ago and they are running very stable averaging about 121 Mh/s. I found the testing done by #whiteogre interesting.  Can the same kind of analysis be done in balanced mode?  What are the stock settings when on balanced mode?   I don't have any issues with hardware errors, just wondering about efficiency.

Hello, I changed the fan, which was noisy. I put it there:
https://store.supermicro.com/92mm-fan-0114l4.html
It works well, only mine minerals hold 70.5 c and not 66 as the original fan.
Is it possible to set the fan speed to increase in automatic mode from about 66 c?
(google translator)

try setting fan speed manually to 30
btw  that is a good fan maker.  I may buy the fan thanks.

I set the stock fan to 20% fixed speed = 2760 rpm
I run balanced
I get
69.19 c = miner
52.63 c = mcu

Phil,   I noticed in your post on Feb. 7 that with the same settings your miner temp was 63 deg c.  Assuming the diff is due to room temp.  May be helpful to know the room temp when setting a fixed speed.

Ok image is complete...I need about 5-10 testers that are at your apollos tonight and have time to do an update and let it run over night just in case I missed something. Shoot me a PM and ill send download link.

I put the new image on card last night and Apollo started up perfectly with no issues.  It has been running for approximately 14 hours with everything on default/auto mode and all seems normal.  There is a difference in the low fan speed on auto.  Previously it ran at 950 rpm at its low speed and now it runs at 1120-1170 rpm at low speed and seems to fluctuate in that range, not really settling on a constant speed.  This causes a fan noise that I would describe as "fluttering" for lack of a better term.  The fan at idle produces more noise with the increased rpm, but I need to leave it on auto due to its location so it will cool down when needed. It is borderline "quiet" enough for its current den location.  It does maintain the same temperatures as it did previously(64-66 degrees C). It is mining normally at about 101.58 Mh/s on the ViaBtc pool.  I would like to mention that the Apollo with the previous image was very stable for me also with only 3 disconnects in a month and 2 of those were pool issues. The fan/temp issues I have noted, other than perhaps the "fluctuation" at low speed, are my own due to the location needed to hard wire it to the LAN, not technical associated with the new image.

Apollo has been running flawlessly for 2 weeks now, but disconnected from the pool a couple of times.  Is it possible to set up a backup pool (failover)?

Yes, go to Pools in the left hand menu. Add info and hit the + sign. You can change the order with the arrows, top one is primary.

Thanks!

Apollo arrived by Fed Ex two days earlier than expected.  Is up and running fine so far, but I have one question.
I am using a Seasonic Focus 550W PSU.  There are 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors on the cable that plugs into the PSU and there are 2 sockets on the Apollo, but when I first started it up I wasn't sure if both should be connected so used only one of them and it worked fine.  I now have both plugged in and it still works fine.  Question is, does it need both connected and if not why are there two sockets?
Thanks for the prompt shipping and Apollo looks great!

Never mined before, useless with any kind of programming, dont know if this is of any use to more experienced people.
I have ten MLDs running on a win10 desktop using modded usb2 hubs with 140 amp power supply spliced in.
I also had the problem, where 1 MLD would drop to 2 -2.5 Mhs for no apparent reason. Power was not the problem-plenty of spare, could not find any problem with connections, until I changed the usb leads from the hubs to the pc.
It seems it was an intermittent or damaged data lead,or possibly shield.
The old leads read fine on a meter.
All 10 now running rock solid at 876Mhz.

To run at 876 did you need to adjust the core voltage and if so what is it set at?  Thanks.

Interesting that the answer to my question seems to be don't mess with these things and they don't work reliably.  i am running these on 2 separate powered usb hubs and they work just fine and have been very stable.  it seems like the problems start when cranking them up too high and when using inadequately powered hubs.  I don't have that problem.  I do understand the response that running them with separate workers/devices does not really accomplish anything and isn't worth the bother.   Thanks.

I am fairly new to this and have a simple question that I have not been able to find the answer for.  I am using 4 moonlander 2 devices on litecoin pool and would like to set up to use different worker for each device.  Do I need to create a separate bfgminer start file for each device/worker?  If so, how do I show the device in the start file instead of "all".  I am using a Mac.
Thanks, help will be appreciated.
