I don't believe that PoS will work on a long term basis for any coin, at least not in its current form. People are like "hey, let's buy in large now and when the value goes 'to the moon', I can just sit on my butt and get money for free'. That doesn't work in the real world, why would it work with digital coins? Why would the coin 'go to the moon' if no one puts effort in it? It doesn't work for MintCoin, ZeitCoin and even not that well for BlackCoin. Yes, PeerCoin is somewhat holding up, but that coin is relatively old already and mostly in the hands of a few holders ( https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-ppcoin-addresses.html). I believe that every coin generated has to be counterbalanced at some point. PoS is counterbalanced by the large pile of coins you have which will just get larger. It's like everyone has tomato plants, which generate tomato plants while nobody wants tomato's. Normally interest (which you can best compare PoS with) is counterbalanced by loans and long term inflation to nullify the effect of those loans. These are all principles that have proven not to be in the best interest of the common people. When I first heard of Proof of Cooperation, I was a bit surprised how it would replace Proof of Stake. But when I thought it through, it was the only logical option we could take to differentiate us from the rest of the Crypto world. With Proof of Cooperation we have a valid counterbalance, namely the human consensus and effort that was put to into cooperation. Coins gets meaning and a history because you'll have to work for them to get them. Proof of Cooperation will give you something to talk/blog about, something to be proud of and to show off with. It allows you to explore and start up new initiatives. And if those initiatives are great, you can request funding from the FairCoop. So basically it allows anyone to become an entrepreneur without having the risk of losing it all. All this adds up to the awareness and value of FairCoin and the FairCoop With all this said, it also makes sense that we have to counterbalance those 50 million FairCoin that have been generated in the first place. A lot of it already has been counterbalanced by the FairCoop and the FairCoin holders who bought in for long time investment, but there's still some FairCoin roaming about that has been collected for free (by simply clicking a button on a web page). Making that balance will stabilise the coins value.

Next to other points the selling might also have to do with the intention to remove POS from this Coin.
I never understood at first place why you choose a POS coin since I too see POS as an unhealthy thing when it comes to financial fairness and equality however my longtime investment plan in this coin is to a significant part driven through that POS.
Getting right of it simple means that I and maybe others have to change to other coins. I didn't sell any of my FairCoins however I asume that a part of the selling we have seen is because of the reduction in longtime attractivness.
I know that this Coin will still grow in value however that grow is not something you can plan and that makes it troublesome for investments.
To all worry about the price drop. We are still in good waters. From past obeservations coins that rose very heavy fall often back to about 30% of its peak and that is where we are now.
I too wonder who is actually really selling if it's still one or more ppl from the early distribution or some that bought the last weeks and forced the a bit unhealthy strong rise.

Hi, I got a few thousands of faircoin at the beginnig, then forgot about them, not checking the wallet for months. Now I restored my wallet.dat on a new pc. My faircons are disappered, and there is not even an address to which they have been sent. What does it mean? Can anybody help me? thanks
At some point in time we introduced a special block (using a hardfork) and we’ve reclaimed presumably lost coins from the initial distribution. You can read back on this on bitcointalk. Fortunately you can reclaim them. Send an email to support [at] fair-coin.org and we'd be happy to assist you in recovering your lost coins

But don't forget we also had some people waking up and remembering their FAIR from the initial distribution.
That is very much true - we see this also by the number of support requests send to support [at] fair-coin.org. It's like we've been waking the dead

Hello to all.
It's my first post. I'm new to faircoin/cryptocurrencies and have one naive question and a comment...
In alcurex faircoin value is totality different, I don't understand why nobody refers to this and only to the bittrex value...
Picking on the Smartaction last sentence about selling faircoin, in my opinion the only way to make this coin work is keep it in a restrict number of users that only sell it to pay necessary monthly bills and get more faircoins in fairmarket (just like a regular job). If the people who have the big amounts of faircoin sell it to make big money everybody loses... right?
Hi OrangeMachine and welcome I'll comment a bit on what you wrote. Please note that this is just my view on crypto's and not the only truth For a lot of crypto's what you wrote is actually the case. They never make it off the exchange and the amount of coins in existence is way to much to be support by the community using them. In that case it is in fact only a pile of BitCoin where people colaborately deposit and withdraw from, which controls the value. Things become different when a crypto gets more purpose. Instead of trading the coin for other currencies, people will be able to trade a coin for goods or services - you'll get coin-2-coin traffic. In that way they skip the money pile game completely. A valid or slowly changing reference value helps to build trust - which is one of the many roles of getfaircoin. On the last part; people with big amounts of coins can influence the market heavily. I personally believe that this is what we're seeing with BitCoin right now. It is interesting to say the least that it has been stuck at 220ish euro per bitcoin for so long. Not only the distribution of a coins wealth, but also the big account holders will eventually determine a coins short term fate. It has to survive long enough so it can fragment, decentralize and become a stable and accepted currency. Knowing who your big account holders are and what their intentions are can help a great deal in growing to be more resilient. For the last part; open up the markets in Bittrex and run a few calculations and see how much money you - hypothetically - can actually make on the different coins if you where a 'big account holder' and want sell for 'big money'. You'd be supprised how fast it will totally deplete the market, how little it will earn and how much damage you it do.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I already emailed support and have not had any reply as yet, so am waiting. Still confused as to how they deem coins as unused when I had them saved?
We don't have 24/7 support yet Mostly during office hours CEST (09:00 to 17:00). I'll get to it in a few hours I've picked up all requests in the email, so you should have mail by now. If you don't please send another message to support@fair-coin.org

https://fair.coop/docs/new-faircoop-startup-p2p-equity-crowdfunding-and-liquidity-fund/ FairCoin 2.0 will be an important blockchain-based innovation to allow the Faircoin blockchain to function, secured with ‘proof of cooperation’, and bring to the world a really functional alternative to the current unfair systems that are based on competition between nodes: ‘proof of work’ and ‘proof of stake’. (A link to the white paper on this project will be added).interesting... Ho well anyway, I think faircoin will eventuallty moving away from PoS, as thokon00 said. Any form of PoS will inherently benefit the most for those with the biggest pile of coins. It was bit of an eye opener for me, but actually any form of interest is debt based: The whole point of the banks is that they offer interest over money so that they can make more profit on loans. Even without the actual loan on the other side counter balancing the interest rate, PoS will put pressure on the market and decrease a coins value. You can actually see this happening in large with MintCoin and ZeitCoin which have a huge PoS reward. A form of decentralised Proof of Coop (PoC?) is more towards a human process to acknowledge the cooperation you have done with a reward. The model needs to be simple as well as uncrackable w/o the need to bring out a new piece of software whenever a trusted node (read human) is added, removed or disappears (for health or trust reasons). The biggest challenge will be that people (we possibly even may trust) will try game the system and we need to be prepared for that. Last but not least; I'm not sure if we should completely get rid of PoS, since it's a fairly cheap way to generate transactions which secure the network. We may want to just trim down the pos reward to the bare minimum or a fixed value just as we're doing now with PoW. @smartaction; I'm looking forward to the complete whitepaper.
