Reason I ask is the one listed on mining hardware comparison is water cooled

7990, HD7990-6GD5  1518  1100  1480    cgminer 3.2.2  -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-powertune 10  60C, Catalyst 13.9, FX-8320, 3x7990, watercooled

7990 is good* - 1,4M#/s and if you somehow manage to squize 4 of these and provide enough power 1500W(?) you would get 5.6M#/s.

That using water cooling Huh? or factory cooling?
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: cgminer 3.8.5 - what is acceptable number of HW errors? on: January 05, 2014, 12:26:14 AM
I have 4 rigs some which have been mining the same pool for over a month with no hardware error's.... when I was 1st setting them up if I got error's I would drop the --gpu-engine buy 5 till the error's would stop.

Hi

That seems very low for 290's my 280's get 710Kh/s here is a copy of my cgminer config for my R9 280's I think you have some setting missing that might help  Wink

./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://xxx.xxx.xxx3334 -u user -p pass  --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 -g 2 -I 13 -w 256 --gpu-fan 95 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 78 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-powertune 0 --shaders 2048 --expiry 1 --scan-time 1 --queue 0 --no-submit-stale

The only thing I'd add regarding my setup is that I initially went with 3 x Gigabyte 7970 cards but sadly came to the conclusion that since they were more recent models, I can't get the hashrate of earlier models (~750) and only ended up with ~550. It has to do with the most recent BIOS those cards have and you can't flash back to earlier versions, I've tried several. Luckily I ordered from Amazon and they're great about returns so they're going back and I'm replacing them with 4 x 270x. Not as good as yours but with 4 of them I'll get a better hashrate overall than my crippled 7970's

What version bios you using?  Is it possible to mod the bios you having using something like VBE7???

I got good results undervolting my 7970's saved over 150watts across 4 cards.

All cards are hard to get ATM Sad

Bran wise you usually can’t go wrong with Sapphire, Gigabyte, and MSI
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it too late for poor people to start mining? Jan2014 on: January 04, 2014, 02:15:54 AM
I think you might have missed the boat for bitcoin mining(SHA256) but for alt coins it not too late yet.. even with 2 cards you could make 30-40$ a day  Cool

Hi

My Gigabyte 7970's are great they do 740kh/s and are the fastest of all my 10 cards (7950's & R9 280) they do use little more power and run a little hotter but.

The thing I would be worried about is XFX heard may bad things about people using them for mining.

This is true with SHA256 mining i.e Bitcoin mining but for Scrypt mining you can only use GPU for the moment.

I have had great results with my Gigabyte 7970's out of my 10 cards they are the best performers even better then R9 280's but they do run a little warmer and use a little more power.
