And difficulty is now 4.25g. Seems like only yesterday it was… Never mind.

It seems some people start to get it - our hashrate increases after some bad luck instead of when we got a good luck ... I hope this will help crossing the 900TH line and show that, it's not a limit in any way, so here is a prediction:
 This round (currently 1h 8min) will last between 1h 30min and 2h 15min
There will be at least 2 rounds below 3h in the next ~14h (by 13:00 UTC)

My apologies KNK, It appears I may have spoken to soon. (Technically that first block was pretty well past the 2h 15min mark )
But you nailed the turn in luck prediction Smiley

Slush's pool
Our EU stratum server is currently unreachable, all mining has been redirected to the US locations. We will keep you posted.

This was why he replaced his server.

On another note. This is the first time since I've been in this pool ( 4 months? ) that I have all of my shares confirmed!

Good news, we have setup a new EU stratum server today as a replacement for the original one.

Or you could all just go look at organofcorti's excellent weekly blog post, which lists the luck for most of the major pools.

The pool is now back to 864813 Ghash/s

All the Hoppers Skippers and Jumpers are coming back now the luck figures have returned to "normal"
While that would bring about a small reduction in dburdett84's reward, it would not explain the figure he sees.

It might be useful to learn what the preceding and following rounds look like: what the ratio of his shares to the total are normally compared to this one.  A single line in isolation doesn't give us much to go on.

Here is more then just the one horribly wrong reward, again can anyone explain this to me?  is Slush just fucking with us or is his pool really turning to shit I have only ever mined with since like sept 2011 but, if i can digress back to Kindergarten for a bit "I am gonna take all my toys and go home".

Just looking for an idea of what the crap happened?

Dropping all kinds of F bombs doesn't fix anything. And no I don't mind them just seems a bit dramatic. I agree that you got screwed on that round, but the best person (s) to "fix" that is the pool operators. So excuse me for asking the obvious but, did you fill out a ticket on that? Also I have had some responses to questions asked on Slush's Facebook page lately. Not trying to be a dick, just saying all the explanations from everyone here won't get your reward fixed. But in my experience if theres been a blatant issue like yours it will be fixed if it is pointed out to the pool management.

Just a heads up that during this last website maintenance, Slush or a representative, posted updates on his Facebook page. Maybe things are turning around in the communications dept. ?

"We are experiencing connectivity issues between our US and EU datacentres. Mining is operational, all shares are being counted. We will keep you posted once the connectivity resumes."

"Connectivity between US and EU datacenters has been restored, web is now accessible, too. Thank you for your patience."

I even got a response to a comment I made on the latest post there. Smiley

Anyone have a good explanation as to what is actually happening when the block is " processing "?

Processed blocks have several technical advantages over natural blocks, including: far longer shelf-life; resistance to separating when cooked; and, a uniform look and physical behavior.

Its mass-produced nature provides arguably its greatest advantage over natural blocks: a dramatically lower cost -- to producers and consumers, alike -- than conventional blockmaking. This is often due to ingredients that are more widely-varied and of simpler quality. This, in turn, enables industrial-scale production volumes, lower distribution costs, a steadier supply, and much faster production time (compared to natural blocks).

Looks like someone is bored Smiley

Another block found and unreported on website  Angry https://blockchain.info/blocks/Slush

Yes. Over 2 hours ago. Block 286275. This is the worst I've seen yet. Missing block update. Hash rate way off. Unconfirmed rewards not there. REBOOT Something Slush cause we got some BIG issues.
13  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 16, 2014, 06:54:56 PM
last month i`ve seen the same problem with another pool where i have some miners, the pool operator said that blockchain isn`t always right
Blockexplorer also links #286209 to Slush, and the payout address is correct on both Blockexplorer and Blockchain, so either they are both right or both wrong.

No doubt it will get fixed in due course.

it seems your right block #286126 (which slush`s solved) was payed to the same BTC adress as block #286209

Have to agree with this….  https://blockchain.info/blocks/Slush

It's all in the blog post. You will have to figure out 'c' for yourself, since it changes over time. In the post I link to an R script that does it for you - you don't have to do it by hand. Look for "Navigator" in the post.

'c' changed from 300 to 200 about two years ago, but I don't know what it is now.

Edit: I think PostMixer is referring to this post on page 739.

On the News page of the Slush site, dated 2013-09-25, Slush has posted:

While working on completely new and quite exciting rewarding system, we've changed some settings of the current one in order to improve stability (e.g. decrease variance) in miners' income. It has already been deployed.

The change is about altering shape of used scoring function. The function is now less steep than before which means that your submitted shares influence your score for a longer time period. Therefore your score is less sensitive to instant luck of your miners and leads to a lower variance in results.

I've interpreted it as increasing the c constant for myself at that time. Or might the altering shape of used scoring function mean something more substantial?

Yes, I'd say it's just a change in 'c'. You reduce variance by increasing 'c', although this makes the pool more hoppable. He probably put it back up to 300. It might be even higher now, given the decrease in network proportion. My guess is that c is probably 400 right now.

I'm thinking the variance is probably tied to the altering shape of the scoring function. Since it is now less steep than the shares submitted and therefor is less sensitive to instant luck. I would have to guess that c=Cya Later.

:-) You all have a good weekend!!!!!!!!

I just HAD to know  Grin Cheesy Shocked

The organ of Corti (or "spiral organ"), found only in mammals, is part of the cochlea of the inner ear and is provided with hair cells or auditory sensory cells. [1] It evolved from the basilar papilla found in all tetrapods, except for a few derived species that have lost it.

Check page 742. It's all there if you read carefully.
18  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 14, 2014, 05:32:35 AM
"Difficulty attempts to keep the block rate to 1 block every 600 seconds. A retarget (when a new network difficulty occurs) happens every 2016 blocks."

Is this in perpetuity. Is that written in stone? Is there any leeway written into the protocol for instances of unpredictability? Just wondering, because I have also read that they actually have a date +/- when the last block will be solved. That to me indicates a finite solution. What happens then?
19  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 14, 2014, 04:02:08 AM
I think I read somewhere a while back that it is possible for the difficulty level to actually go down. If so, I wonder if the recent issues with the exchanges, the price drop, and what seems to be an unlucky streak that is allegedly not exclusive to just this pool could cause a slow down or reversal of the difficult change? Any thoughts?

Difficulty changes as the time between retargets change.

A retarget occurs ever 2016 blocks. If the time between blocks is exactly 14 days, difficulty stays the same. If time between retargets is less than 14 days, difficulty increases by the same proportion.

Moreinterestingly (for you) is that If the time between retargets is more than 14 days, difficulty decreases by the same proportion. So if it takes 15 days for 2016 blocks, difficulty would be divided by 15/14 to get the next difficulty.

Where does the relationship between 14 days and 2016 blocks come from?
