don't mine with a laptop...

Mine with 3 AMD GPU's .... setup a decent rig for it.   Mine for Ron Paul.... scratch that.... Doge or something easy

Lots of information on setting up mining rigs.  I wouldn't worry about the electricity, as you are essentially more concerned with the coin value and even converting ur mined coined into a "better" more stable coin ...

As a software developer, I typically write software for the Microsoft Windows platforms  (.net  c#)  and some other languages that work on linux/unix platforms , but I'm really glad that Microsoft Windows has a monopoly otherwise trying to code for 1,000 operating systems would be pretty insane.

One can argue that the java, php, python etc.. can be can done on all the flavors of linux and unix and still work as they have a common OS structure thus just because there are dozens of flavors of linux doesn't affect the ability to run various software desktop and web that are built to run on these platforms.

The reason I bring this analogy up is just thinking about the endless amount of coins getting made.   It seems that Bitcoin will dominate for quite some time and 2014 and 2015 ,  will Bitcoin his $10,000 / USD ,  there is always the talk about how to deal with the fractions of worth.

I use google news on my iphone and i watch /read all the news headlines that is pulls daily on bitcoin.  Dogecoin certainly hit the news.  Will it ever surpass bitcoin,  the name itself just makes it a joke.  I like it, it is funny but what future does it hold?    I recently went to coinedup and got  TIPS  which is Fedora Coin ,  It is nice to buy something for so cheap and hope for it to go up along with mining for coins.

Will Bitcoin go up dramatically in value in 2014 or down a lot?
Will the Litecoin, namecoin, peercoin  shoot up a ton in value?   I hope so..
Ripple -- interesting ...

I do think some coins have good names    WorldCoin, EarthCoin ....  those just seems like great names for the long run.....

DevCoin and Quark are pretty neat, but at what point will these fizzle , or find their niche etc...

I do like the DogeCoin,  I think it will have multiple surges and has yet to come close to peaking.   The coins can co-exist no doubt in my mind.   Just like Stock Market and all the trading on the DOW and other exchanges.  Coins will find niche markets.  Dogecoin has gotten some big attention.

I have been buying and following the main coins and the alt coins for a few months and I just wonder about holding onto these alt coins.   Bitcoin is king  and WILL it really get unseated?

The early adopters are getting the most money and thus it doesn't seem attractive to most of us to buy bitcoin

Cannot help but end up comparing to stock market. So when the price is so high for bitcoin and there is no splitting and such it makes is difficult to envision it hitting $10,000 USD / BTC .

These stocks use to force a split in order to get more people to buy,... then i became clear that too many day traders caused tremendous fluctuations and then when they didn't move much it made them look badly ... so they stopped splitting and then who had the highest price per share looked great,   they following that Warren Buffet stock strategy of never splitting   Berkshire Hathaway I recall was the name   "A"  and "B"   i recall from 1998
So it used to be that i owned say $1000 of Microsoft at $70/share,   thus with the math.... i have  X amount of shares...  then they would vote on a split and i would have double my shares and they are worth $35/share ...

It is difficult to see people in 3rd world country buying a hot dog and coke for  .000000000003 bitcoins   .  Right?
