Hi Sundownz,

I have purchased the cable you recommended, however unfortunately I still get the same red light and “beep, beep” noise.

Is there anything you can suggest that I might be missing?

Thanks for the info sundownz - you're a champion.

The hope so too MinersRus. I just assumed that as the plug fit it would be compatible. The 'expert' in the shop who sold me the PSU also told me it would definitely be compatible with the XW4600
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / HP XW4600 ATX PSU Issue on: May 16, 2018, 08:56:39 PM
Hi guys,

I have an HP XW4600 that I'm trying to use as the basis for a 3 GPU mining rig. I have just purchased an EVGA Supernova G3 750W PSU as the power supply. https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-G3-0750-X1

The PSU plugs into the motherboard correctly, but when I press the ON button the computer powers for half a second then I get a red flashing light and a "beep, beep" noise.

After doing a bit of research it looks like the HP motherboard uses proprietary power and isn't compatible with ATX power. Has anyone successfully got an ATX power supply to work with a HP motherboard? Or have any tips on how to make them compatible?

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm still a little confused however.

Would it be better to go for the EVGA Supernova 750W G3 https://www.evga.com/products/Specs/PSU.aspx?pn=9bdf2642-17e4-483a-9ac7-0488b88de7a2

This has 6 PCIe connectors (2 extra) and if I'm not mistaken the risers and GPU's could all be connected to the PCIe ports?

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Can I Power 3 RX570's With This PSU? on: May 08, 2018, 10:52:28 AM
Hey Guys,

I'm just getting into mining and am building a rig from a HP XW4600. I've been doing a lot of research over the past month but am stumped by 1 question still.

I am looking at using this EVGA Supernova 750W PSU https://www.newegg.com/global/nz/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438017 as I have read they are very good and lots of people use them for mining. I just can't figure out how to power the 3 GPU's and risers from the PSU. The GPU's would be powered by the VGA ports, but I'm not sure how to power the risers. I have read that it is not okay to power risers using SATA as it is a fire risk, so the SATA ports wouldn't be able to be used. Is there any way to power the 3 RX570's with this PSU?

Any help is much appreciated

Hey Guys,

Huge fan of this thread. I'm building a rig with a HP XW4600 and I have a question about the PSU:

I'm looking at running a 4 RX570 rig and I'm wondering do I need a PSU with 8 PCIe ports to power the RX570's and risers? Or is it possible to power the RX570 and riser from the same PCIe cable? Or possible another way of doing it?

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 vs Intel Celeron E3300 Idle Power Consumption on: April 29, 2018, 10:36:03 AM
Hey Guys,

I'm just getting into crypto mining. I have an old HP XW4600 workstation that I'm going to use as the basis for a mining machine. It has 4 PCIe slots so I'm going to build a rig with 3 or 4 RX570's.

The CPU in the computer is a Intel Core 2 Due E8400 3.06GHz. I have heard that these are quite power hungry and not particularly efficient. I have been looking online and I can purchase an Intel Celeron E3300 for $5.

I'm wondering would the E3300 use less power at idle to warrant the purchase and time spent to change the CPU?

Thanks in advance
