No need for blind hate, man. These days you don't see a whole lot of projects launch fairly, or without a big token sale, etc. Everyone involved is volunteering their time to make a project that is working to give everyone a chance at mining. This doesn't strike me as a "get rich quick" scheme, but more of a fun way to learn how mining works in a novel way.
I don't think it was blind hate, but if you look at the stats from the official pool, there are 14 skein miners right now, only 6 are mining with less than 1 GH, so they are probably gpu miners. In total they account for 2.6 GH, which probably means that they represent about 10 GPUs. The top miner with 259 GH would represent about 1000 GPUs (+/- 100 or so), or 18 Baikal G28s. If you had 1000 GPUs woud you throw them at Badcoin? As for groestl, you can't even mine it right now on GPU because the difficulty is too high. There are only 4 groestl miners right now, with 39, 53, 49 and 156 GH respectively. The lowest miner at 39 GH would need over 1000 GPUs to achieve that hashrate. It's still an interesting coin, but realistically you need to mine it with a bunch of CPUs or some ASIC hardware. BTW, my numbers may be off, so do your own analysis and @Joel and @Travis, great podcast!

I am sad to see that Black Arrow didn't deliver - they seemed to be a reliable company that made good on their fpga products. I hemmed and hawed about ordering from them and wound up missing the first round of orders, so I didn't bother. My post from January https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=376370.msg4375020#msg4375020 pretty much sums up why I had my doubts and didn't order - a company that sells ATM card skimming devices should make you nervous. Most likely they just bit off more than they could chew and didn't realize the complexity of delivering an ASIC. If they were truly scammers, then they wouldn't have developed/delivered anything.

Suggestion: The miners have wireless, but no antenna. Turns out it is hard to find just a wireless antenna, so for now these are using the 4 ethernet ports on my Wireless router.
I'm running without antennas. Just put them close to your wireless router/AP.

If you want to keep mining during a power failure then I think you're looking at something more like a generator rather than a UPS.

Well, I did it on all 10 units. took about an hour and a bit. 2 had cold solders but it was just a quick touchup to fix.
Looks good MaxGen! What speed are you running at? Does Scripta use cgminer or bfgminer? Maybe I should fire up my Raspberry Pi.

For the voltage mod, are you just bridging the pads with solder, or are you adding some resistance?
Also, from your last post, am I correct in assuming you are running the PS at 220 for the savings? I don't think mine powered on at 220V

I tried bridging the pads with solder, but that wasn't happening so I used some very fine wire. Tin the end of the wire with some solder, dip in some flux and solder to the pads, then trim. I found some stranded wire and then used single strands - that's how tiny the pads are. I'm running the PS at 110V now. The 10 watt saving is nothing compared the other power-guzzlers I have

Sorry, I don't think I would trust myself to work on someone else's units because I'd be afraid of frying it. Those solder pads are surprisingly small - I almost didn't do the mod because I was shocked at how tiny they were.

A couple of tips: I noticed that the power supply has a switch on the side to select voltage. I had been running with it set to 220V, and was only pulling 58 watts from the wall. It was pretty stable like this at 850 MHz so I measured the voltage on one of the plugs and the power supply was only providing 10.8 volts. After switching to 110V, I was reading 11.9 volts and power usage went up about 10 watts.
After doing the voltage mod, I'm running stable at 401 Kh/s and pulling 82 watts at the wall for my 10 units.

Do you run that fan on them?
Yes, without that fan the heatsinks get warm to the touch. The one fan keeps both stacks cool, and of course I'm only mining scrypt.

Removed all but 2 of my fans. Think I'll get rid of one of the Power Supplies next and follow melmo's lead and remove all fans and have a larger fan pointing at the stacks.
How well does that configuration work with the single fan on top of each stack? If you lift up the top 4 units and touch the bottom one, is it cool to the touch? Stacking like this really saves a lot of space... I think I have room for 10 more, but I'm not sure if I have the cash for them

I removed the fans to reduce the noise and the amount of space required. I'm also running everything off one power supply. After running for several hours half have zero hardware errors, and the other half all have less than 10. I'm running at 850 MHz and I just have the one case fan pointing at the two stacks. Without the fan the heatsinks started to get pretty warm but with the single fan they are all cool now.

I had to back mine off to 850 as well. 888 also had a lot of hw errors, so I'm going to try something like 865 and see how that goes. If anyone removes the fans, please post if the hardware errors go up. Right now each unit is drawing about 8 watts, hopefully the fan isn't really needed.
