1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TeamRedMiner 0.5.2 - AMD GPU Miner for x16r/rt/s, lyra2rev3, lyra2z, phi2 on: June 30, 2019, 05:03:03 PM
computer crashed after a couple of months of mining. Now when i try to start miner only on cnr algo it says failed to initiate device idx 5 (-31) i have tried going to a previous restore point, reseting my computer and reinstalling drivers w/ddu. all have the same end result. dont know whats up. any help would br much appriciated.

Hi! That error is a mem buffer allocation error, it fails to allocate the (large) buffer for all the 2MB CN pads for that gpu.

A few questions + things to try:

  • Does it work for that gpu if you run that gpu in isolation, i.e. you add "-d 5" to the command line? If so, do you have enough swap space available?
  • Can you list the output from "teamredminer.exe --list_devices"?
  • Do you run monitors on the problematic gpu?

Yes the gpu runs in isolation and to be quite honest i never have set up a watchdog to monitor problem matic gpus in the the past when i have tried i have not had any success (im not in the computer buisness this is more like a hobby for me) it takes me time to figure the programing out but have done ok with everything cuase of the plethora of info you can find on the internet. this all started when i tried to bring one of my vega 56 gpus back in the rig when it booted up it would give me a black screen and reset the system none stop. once i removed said gpu and checked the registry the vega 56 was recognized fully but for some reason windows would not boot. after that incident is when i started have issues with the system.

for reference my system:
asrock h110 btc pro+ with p4400 16mb ram
1x asus strix vega 64
3x nitro+ vega 64
1x powercolor vega 56 use to be 2x
1x rx 570 8g msi armor
2x evga 1660ti- i know mixing cards can cause problems but they are out of the system right now and the drivers have been removed with the latest ddu. also the systen ran for two weeks problem free running two different mining programs.
3200 watts of gold rated power supplies evga g3 corsair hxi 2 750 watt server supplies w/break out boards
gpu 5 is currently running issolated at 2340 h/s tmr+amd mem tweak.

p.s. as im writing this i just realized after my clean install i never rest my virtual ram to 80gb let me check if that fixes it.

setting the virtual ram t/80gb fixed the failure to connect to device idx 5 (-31). now if i could figure out why this other vega 56 wont work.

Im not the best with computers. It will take some time to figure it out. Ive tried alot of different miners. The best ive found for cryptonight algos on amd is team red miner. I use to use cast xmr but the dev no longer writes for the new hard forks. I prefer the comand line interface ovet the config file. When i first started mining i mined eth and use claymore miner. There is alot of very detailed info in the readme.txt file on the claymore download that is applicable to the majority of mining software out there. I also used the vega miners guide. Alot of that info is outdated on that page and was written for use with old amd drivers that did not have good support for vega cards but its info that can still help you to get started mining with vega cards. They can be tempermental sometime. Once you get your mining software running and your rrady to start tuning it in start with the stock settings and make small adjustments on each card and let them run for a couple hours. If the rig does not crash adjust a little more. Once the rig seems to be stable and you can get it down to around 915mv on core and memory voltage try running it for several days. If that works lower the voltage even more. If it crashes bump it back up. I run my vegas at 1340/905 core and 1085-1100/905 memory for vega 64, 1340/905 core and 930/905 for vega 56

Vega 64 2340-2370 h/s
Vega 56 2100 h/s
Power consumption range from 175 to 195 watts/card
I use overdrivent tool for voltage and frequency control and amd memory tweak for timing straps. Avoid the amd memory tweak until you get the rig up and running its a little more complicated and can really make you pull your hair out.

I have have a 9 gpu rig 6 vegas 1 rx 570 and 2 1660ti. Amd gpus mine cnr and team green mine MTP. Totally cnr hasrate is 14.6 kh/s and total MTP hashrate is 4.4 Mh/s the rig runs well using amd memory tweak and tmr i still have to reset it about every 2 days but think alot of that is i always like to get on and try to see if i can saeeze alittle more out of it. Im pretty sure if i just left it alone it woul last longer.

the command opencl-launch is the intensity tuning, default is 256x0 what effect does it have on the miner if you increase the x0 part of the comand. Sorry im not a command line junky maybe some one will get a laugh out of this.

I am having problems with this miner when started it says error reading scratchpad.bin: No error
downloading new scratch pad from scratch. then the miner does absolutely nothing. Am i missing something
Is there rights for writing to folder where miner unpacked? What path you specified for --scratchpad-file?
i figured it out. Thanks i am now hashing @38 MH/s
