1  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins death effects would precious metals ? on: January 21, 2014, 04:46:02 PM
While the two groups are hardly mutually exclusive, I have got the impression that some big metals people don't see the point of bitcoin. I think at least in the west, a bitcoin disaster would strengthen fiat more than gold.

I hope they are naive enough to think they can kill the market by selling openly, so we can enjoy the feeding frenzy. I also fancy that it could be a bluff and they don't actually have full access to the coins.

If i ever cash out in my BTCs it will be in Euros.

I have no faith in the dollar anymore. I'm from the U.S.

If you also study the Eurozone monetary policy you'll find its a different but similarly doomed system. I think there will unlikely be a time when it's somehow better to sell bitcoins for euros than dollars.

Interesting... Then how are the coins originated? I will read.

I think that when the Dollar gets into real trouble, bitcoin is likely to enter the most volatile period of its life. I think the upswing will be determined by how long the dollar hangs on and therefor how much knowledge and support has built up. But it will be countered by the desperate dying actions of the entrenched financial and political powers who will undoubtedly make it as hard as possible to use bitcoin. On top of that there is the volume of bitcoin trade goin on elsewhere in the world which I think ultimately will dictate play beyond the volatility of the USA.

I downloaded it anyway because it allowed me to use Armory and because I believe in decentralised democracy!

Fair enough. Thanks. Are there any other reasons I should run Qt?
8  Other / Beginners & Help / decentralization question on: January 03, 2014, 01:22:42 PM
Hello. So ive been hearing about the incidental recentralisation of the mining network, and although I am not mining and don't have money for it, my newb question is: am I doing anything to contribute to network security by just running the Qt instead of using a light wallet?
Cheers.
