So the problem at the moment is that most academic research is published in journals where the scientist has to pay a high fee to publish, and then also pay to read other articles in that journal. The fees are very high to publish articles, often $2500 - $5000.

11 European countries have stated that from 2020, all publicly funded research must be published pure open access (free to the public to access), and about 85% of existing journals will not be compatible with the new plan. Therefore, universities will either publish in existing pure open access journals or they will launch their own journals. We are providing a service for organisations which wish to launch their own journal, a SaaS platform which will interact with Ethereum to store metadata and unique hashes for each manuscript and variation of a manuscript.

So we can save universities and funders of research a lot of money, and we can use smart contracts to automate a lot of the work.

We will go to market with the platform mid 2019. Although we have an MVP based on the fully functional prototype, we require funding to both further develop the platform. In particular we need to work on product development and user experience. We also need funding to pay for marketing and sales of the platform.

To answer your question, there are two incentives to hold the token: a) As more journals are deployed on EUREKA, demand for the token will increase, and there is a finite amount of tokens b) The loyalty bonus program rewards token holders continuously with 1% loyalty bonus, calculated as 1% of the volume of EKA used as a means of payment on the platform.

The token is classed as a payment/utility token. There will be a finite number minted. The EUREKA (EKA) token will be used as a payment method for article submissions to journals on our platform, and also as a reward to researchers who carry out work.

The token will have a loyalty bonus program of 1% of all EKA transactions used as a means of payment. These loyalty bonus is distributed continuously to token holders in proportion to the amount of tokens they hold.

So at present, if a university wants to launch their own journal, they have very few platform options to choose from. What we are offering is a platform which will be lower cost, more customisable, and importantly designed and built by a team with both science publishing experience and also blockchain development experience.

As we are based at Trust Square in Zurich, which is a blockchain hub, and we have a lot of academic support, we are in a good position to go to market next year.

Finally, unlike many projects, we have a fully functioning prototype, and an MVP. This means we can confidently go to market mid 2019 and we already have clients lined up.
