1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: November 25, 2023, 12:16:46 AM
I have not read the full thread yet, and will catch up on this over the next few days.

In the meantime, I can't refrain from mentioning that there is an impressive number of privacy oriented projects in the crypto space, which is the way to go.

Including DEXes, SC platforms, mesh networks, naming systems, etc.

Currently I am wondering if this is a forum for a real discussion or if there are Maxi Mullahs already adapting their heresy Fatwahs against all that is not BTCBTC that may appear in the discussion...

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SPAM TX with 79 recipients and 860 Sat to each blocking my funds on: September 13, 2023, 02:00:37 PM
l8orre, I just created a watch-only wallet with your address in electrum and tried several servers.
Some of them still had your transaction (and its parent) in their mempool and some of them had dropped your transaction from their mempool.

As mentioned by o_e_l_e_o above, you should be able to broadcast a new transaction using electrum.

If you imported your wallet and you saw your transaction, try different servers until you find a one that doesn't have your transaction in its mempool.
If your transaction status changed to local, right click on it and select "Remove".

In the case you connect to a server that doesn't have your transaction, you can broadcast your transaction even if the server's node hasn't enabled full RBF.

Due to security reasons, it's better to create a watch-only wallet with your address for finding a server which doesn't have your transaction in its mempool and broadcasting your transaction.
As suggested by o_e_l_e_o, import your private key and sign your transaction on an air-gapped device.

Thank You so much Sir, this worked!!!

I created a view only electrum wallet on another device, found the spurious dust TX, went through the servers, found one that listed this TX as 'local', deleted it from there,
and was able to send (from another, secure rig) a small-ish TX with a beefy fee from another address to that my original address.
Now my original child TX has disappeared, while the spurious dust TX is still pending, but I can send funds again!

Hard to follow how this could work, but it did!

Thank You!

These two precursor TXs look interesting, they do seem to be some kind of consolidation protocol.
The latter one that blocked my TX was someone spreading out a change TX over 79 other addresses (seemingly random),
and the precursor to that one received 60 inputs with almost the same amounts, all from 3xy addresses
- looks like some consolidation or intermingling going on ..
Also, why would someone disperse  0.00086367 BTC - 22.38 USD of change, seemingly just to get rid of it?
This is the precursor TX to the offending change dispersal: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/ba3c96897174501fec909952ae590176b9211f2a3ae4d3b844fcc26a474756bc
I am not that much of a blockchain sleuth, but it sure looks weird...
So if the sender does not up the fee a bit it will bounce sooner or later, and to what purpose was it sent then?
Was this done specifically to bounce eventually?
Or a SPAM attack on BTC with underfunded TXs that are meant to bloat the mempool?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SPAM TX with 79 recipients and 860 Sat to each blocking my funds on: September 13, 2023, 01:24:51 AM
Thanks for the comments - we will see how it plays out.
viabtc offers to 'rectify' the situation for just ~0.09 BTC and I am not quite willing to pay for that.

I am using a coin-specific multiwallet that does not have much fee control- but this would have happened with any wallet I guess,
because the culprit is the incoming TX.

I guess electrum or bitcoin core would have displayed the pending dust TX, but that also can be overlooked.

What weird behaviour, I seem to remember that the dust attacks from 2 or 3 years ago were allegedly done as some kind of marketing gimmick.
I just hope it gets dropped from the mempool sooner or later...

Yes, this is the parent TX to the 79-output-TX and is is also still unconfirmed:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/ba3c96897174501fec909952ae590176b9211f2a3ae4d3b844fcc26a474756bc

This parent TX has 60 senders, all of them 3xyz.. multsig addresses, and the TX going to the subsequent address that sent the dust seems to be a change address-
could this be some kind of mixer?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / SPAM TX with 79 recipients and 860 Sat to each blocking my funds on: September 12, 2023, 09:04:57 PM
I have a TX stuck, and seems the culprit is an INCOMING TX I got to my wallet.
I was not aware of this incoming TX and spent an output that depends on that mysterious input.
So my TX has 18vByte/Sat which is ok, but this weird 860 Sat TX has a large size and a fee of 6 Sat/ vByte and is unconfirmed.
I have no idea where this is from, but here it is:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/95e315f00b48201655877d8d86817748fe32b1d7d339c5a334dac28328a4c939
so this TX has 79 receivers that all got 860 Sat and 6 Sat per Byte, and has been stuck for 3 days now.
Effectively blocking 79 addresses with expenditure of

0.00068022BTC (17.62USD) and Transaction fee 0.00018345BTC (4.75USD)
...
fun fact: I tried

https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

and the free service did not work bcs TX too large, and the paid service.....
came up with a price tag of ..... 0.09BTC !!!!! $2100 to accelerate this TX!

Can anyone make anything of this? Is this some kind of mapping attack with dust (like cpl years ago),
Or is it a sabotage attempt to block as many wallets as possible?
Anybody else finding themselves in this trap?
This appears rather sinister...

Because as a matter of fact, my TX as well as the rest of the funds in my wallet now seem to be effectively frozen...

if this is is not the right place for this, please direct me there - I looked around but did not see anything about it
6  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Python installation of Electrum on latest Linux kernel (6.0 and above) on: September 02, 2023, 01:21:33 AM

I have been using electrum python (old 3.x.y version) and Appimage on Linux, lately the Appimage of 4.1.2

As 4.1.2 is getting a bit old too, maybe I should update to a more recent version.

However, I am concerned with security, and having python code would allow me to read it.

I know quite a bit of python, but I am no networking Guru- is there maybe a collection of suspicious code fragments to search for in the python code?

This seems esp. important because a malware would be hidden in some otherwise networking unrelated module and be called from some unconspicuous function for obfuscation.

Like, the typical routines a malware would use, like establishing network connections other than to the electrum servers etc.?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: August 01, 2023, 05:32:18 PM

this is not necessarily about Hal, but since he was certainly closely involved with Satoshi
(if not with Satoshi Nakamoto Nakamoto, then at least with his close neighbour Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto)

I would like to put this out here about the double whitespace riddle:

https://vimhelp.org/options.txt.html#%27joinspaces%27

Quote
         'joinspaces' 'js' 'nojoinspaces' 'nojs'
'joinspaces' 'js'   boolean   (default on)
         global
Insert two spaces after a '.', '?' and '!' with a join command.
When 'cpoptions' includes the 'j' flag, only do this after a '.'.
Otherwise only one space is inserted.
NOTE: This option is set when 'compatible' is set.

Could this be the explanation for this quirk in Satoshis writings?

Jesus! Are you also planning to kidnap his kids?   Shocked

I know this is too much of a sassy but I'm not gonna be surprised if you actually will do it. So right now I might just have to archive it https://archive.vn/xRJFG

so that if anything will happen, someone can be traced to who seems to have the dedication to follow Ivanov.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After FTX collapse, some call for a return to decentralized roots on: November 28, 2022, 05:34:43 PM
well, you have a good point on this matter. it depends on the person who is holding the funds. not many people are trusting their capability of holding their keys, this is why some people still store their funds in CEXs. but for those regular crypto users/traders, we need to remind ourselves not to store funds in CEXs for long time. better secure it in our own wallets.
Neither we should trust DEX smart contracts to store them for too long time. As at least when we trust CEXes, they get sued after messing up, You can't sue a faulty hacked smart contract. And what comes to praising decentralization in general, it almost always has centralized elements. Like wrapped btc that just got depegged supposedly because of Almada Research minted it a lot.

Please realize that there is atomicdex, that does not operate with SCs, but on plain UTXO blockchains, and hence does not have any SC risk.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🔷 Waves Tech - a powerful blockchain-agnostic ecosystem on: November 28, 2022, 05:33:11 PM

very much so. The fact that the FTX sharks had to spit Waves out is quite encouraging!

Make no mistake: There is a massive attack against crypto going on - the good thing is that FTX exploded too early!
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After FTX collapse, some call for a return to decentralized roots on: November 23, 2022, 08:57:04 PM
This is the best time to have that power with your coins by holding the keys and ensuring that you have them in your pocket. It shows how important it is to have your wallet and your coins directly in there. This is ideal if the exchange makes themselves DEX or the projects that plan DEX. I think futures with DEX is an excellent thing to check.

DEX has been around for several years now, only most crypto holders are too bamboozled by the Blinkenlichten:

Yes, as you said: the unit price is now up to $4.40.
But do you know what's happening?
I'll tell you why the unit price is at $4.40.

Right. so first you screech about price plummeted to $0.08 citing that as why it is all a scam,

Now it is about why it is all a scam because price is at $4+

This apparent inconsistency is easily explained by the fact that you are simply a snake spewing poison.

Sync works very bad since core v.3., connections poor Sad
I think your issue might be related to port forwarding. Check out the wiki https://wiki.qortal.org/doku.php?id=port_forwarding
If that doesn't work out, ask in the Discord https://discord.gg/MhxRpGyaDD there are tons of smart folks there.
I don't think it's port forwarding.
Everything worked fine until v.3. With v.3 and QDN sync start to work terrible.

20  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Don't buy "wallet.dat" files with lost passwords. EXCHANGE THEM! on: February 19, 2022, 07:57:26 AM
Interesting topic!

Please excuse me if this has been explained before-
it is my understanding that the 'wallet' is a glorified encrypted container for secret address keys that point to double- sha'ed public keys.
This can be easily understood when e.g. creating an Electrum wallet w/o encryption and looking at the json in plaintext as it contains the key-value mappings.

SO the task of 'unlocking' these wallet.dat files means to break the encryption of the wallet.dat file, NOT breaking sha256.
Which would mean this protocol:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet_encryption

Am I correct about this?
Has this wallet.dat protocol been used since day one of BTC?
