1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Smart Idea to Invest in a Mining Rig? on: January 09, 2014, 01:09:04 AM
Thanks for all the great advice!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin

So I think I want to build the following rig:

I want to start with SHA-256 because I don't have the capital for Scrypt mining. Although, eventually I will buy a Scrypt mining rig.

So here it is:

ASIC Antminer U1 USB Miners
USB Hub
Connected to my computer first then a Rasberry Pi (when I can get it).

First I just want to get the miners and plug them into my computer without a USB hub. How many can I have? Also, is that a wise decision?
How many Antminers can I have plugged into my USB hub then into the computer. Basically, how many can my computer take and how many are safe to mine in the same hub.

Thanks!

2  Bitcoin / Mining / Smart Idea to Invest in a Mining Rig? on: January 07, 2014, 09:54:57 PM
Hello fellow miners,

So the question is: Is it a wise investment to begin mining Bitcoin and other SHA-256 coins right now? What I mean is for a newbie to start mining today or in the near future, will they see any profit? If they do, what kind of equipment are we talking about? $100? $500 $1,000? $10,000? Or should a newbie invest in Bitcoin itself??

Thanks,

Yea that was the plan, to mine Altcoins and trade them for Bitcoins. I've heard of Multipool anyone had any luck with that? So I should get my rig bigger? I don't have a ton of capital though.

Hello fellow miners,

I'm strongly thinking about investing in mining, for the fun and the profits. My questions are the following:

  • Can I use Antminers and Block Erupters on the same USB hub? Is it wise to do that?
  • How can I overclock the Antminers? Can I overclock them to 2 GH/s instead of 2.2 GH/s?
  • Is it safe to overclock the Antminers while using a fan?
  • Can a USB 3.0 hub connect to a Rasberry Pi? Some people say no, although I have seen it done before in a video.

Thanks,

I'm not trying to make a ton of money, just to do this as sort of a hobby. As in use that $50 invested and when it comes out put it back into cloud mining. I think this could work.

Sorry I don't know a lot about stocks and I'm very new to cryptocurrency. So I can buy parts of a Bitcoin when the price is lowered and then sell it when the price goes up once again? As in buying $50 worth and waiting and selling that same percentage for a higher price as the price goes up? Also I'm looking into cloud mining with https://cex.io/. Has anyone had some profits mining Bitcoins with that? Thanks for the help.

What if I use cloud mining such as https://cex.io/ for mining Bitcoin? I wanted to get approximately $60 and put into cloud mining. To get the $60 I wanted to use a couple of computers just laying around and I also have some money. Is that a wise plan?

I'm not talking about mining BTC. Im talking about getting the block erupter rig to mine other SHA-256 currencies or should I go with Scrypt currencies?

What if I buy them now to mine alt coins? Then take those coins and invest in cloud mining?

So people are saying that the Bitcoin mining boat has sailed off. Which I'm starting to believe. An alternative is investing or buying Bitcoin. Someone told me to do this instead of mining, but how exactly can you do this? Any trusted sites? I'm not trying spend a lot of money only $30 to $50.

Thank You!

Thank you for the rig suggestion.

Although I was thinking more of a few usb hubs with fans hooked up to a Rasberry Pi with a wifi usb adapter.
How can I operate the Rasberry Pi? Also, how can I connect to networks and such with that? Or do I need to go with an Ethernet cable?

Can someone answer my question please?  Grin

Thanks for all the answers!

So the plan is to buy the rig and mine other coins. So is there a video on how you can set up the rig?

Hello fellow miners,

I have just found out about Bitcoins. I want to get an ASIC Block Erupter. Then slowly move my way into hubs and whatnot. The question I have is what is the point of having a Rasberry Pi? Can I just have a couple of hubs connects to my computer filled with miners? Also is it too late for me to get profit with Bitcoins? How can I mine other coins and do I need another wallet, or can I use the wallet I already have?

Thanks, (Sorry for so many questions)
