1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Name Needed for Bitcoin Poker Room on: April 24, 2014, 01:19:57 PM
Bitcoin is liberating the online poker world.  I personally would use the word Liberty in the name.  I'm a poker player, live and online.  Because I live in the United States I cannot play on big named sites like PokerStars.  Bitcoin and poker are a match made in heaven.  No government can prevent me from playing.  I can deposit then start playing AND withdrawal all within minutes/hours as opposed to days/weeks.  No western union (who in the past has taken ~5-15% of my withdrawals), No checks that take weeks to receive, no sketchy bank transfers from a site that delays payouts by weeks or more, no "one free withdrawal per month and the rest costs you $$$" bull sh*t.

Features you should absolutely require for your poker room if you want to make it big:
-Hire good software developers.  Security is extremely important.  Software quality in general is extremely important.  Do you need a software developer?  I worked in Cyber Security for 3 years, and have done iOS applications for 2 years, computers software & hardware in general for 10+ years.
-Proof of solvency.  No poker sites are doing this right now.  If you do this, you will attract a lot of attention and potentially steal the show for Bitcoin Poker.  Prove to users that their money is safe.  The absolutely last thing you want to do is pull a CoinBet.cc or a MtGox.  Users are weary of these things, and though while many users desire to play poker is driven by addiction, most users are smart and won't put their money where it's not proven safe.  If you can get loyal customers driven by both addiction AND intelligence, then your business will go through the roof.
-Fast Withdrawal times.  It doesn't need to be automated right away(think safety first), but it shouldn't take more than 12/24 hours to withdrawal bitcoin.
-Support Data Mining by providing well formatted hand history files.  Data Mining online poker is a good thing.  The best poker players will never play on your site if you don't support data mining.  Contact Holdem Manager & Poker Tracker if you're not sure where to begin.  If I lived in a country where I could play on PokerStars, I would use Data Mining Software.  And If I found a good Bitcoin site that didn't allow DataMining then I would NOT switch to that site just because I could use Bitcoin...  But if that site DID allow Data Mining and did support the above mentioned software, then I'd switch in a heartbeat.
-Consider accepting alternate currencies in the future, but do not operate as an exchange right away... That will just complicate things and you'll end up biting off more than you can chew (unless you just piggy back on an already existing exchange and plug into some API).  Here's an example of how this can get complicated.  Let's say 10 people deposit in BTC, and then all 10 people want to withdrawal in Dogecoin... how do you handle that?  That's a problem you may not want to solve on day 1... Get the site up and running first, then cross that bridge later.  But do architect the system with this in mind!

2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Who do you feel the safest with for bank transfer for buying btc? on: April 21, 2014, 11:39:39 PM
Coinbase feels extremely safe for me and several people I know (US).  I have withdrawn USD using Bitstamp and I trade using Bitstamp and feel very comfortable with it as well, though I have never deposited USD onto Bitstamp.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone explain to me the bitcoin explotion price in septmber-dezember 2013? on: March 24, 2014, 08:32:46 PM
The "incidents" you speak of were going to happen no matter what.  You can't stop them, they were coming regardless of what anyone did.  When anything new hits the scene, people flock for everywhere trying to exploit weaknesses & bugs & overlooked security flaws.  It's a fact of life and it didn't just start with Bitcoin.

Security has been a huge issue EVERYWHERE, it was just a matter of time before hackers exploited the shit out of things.  The thing is, Bitcoin survived.  Bitcoin grew.  Exchanges survived.  Developers learned.  Users are still learning and always will be.  Hackers will always try to stay ahead, but hopefully someday developers/businesses security practices will be so strong and robust that common everyday people can use cryptocurrencies with second-nature-type-security-practices.  Right now, if I taught my parents/grandparents a crash course on Bitcoin, I would honestly expect that within a few months they would have either lost their Bitcoins or had them stolen.  Once that problem is solved, then we're really getting somewhere.
4  Economy / Economics / Re: Predicted Price of BTC on: March 13, 2014, 01:19:50 PM
I hate to say this because it's going to sound like I'm bashing your project (and trust me, I'm not), but any price prediction that goes mostly or solely off past data is not going to do well.  Investors and small time buyers see things in the news/forums.  If your bot is not parsing news/forums then you're predictions are going to fail.  It's possible, I suppose, that you could make predictions on non-volatile periods(like right now) based on past/historic non-volatile data.  But as soon as a big event happens, I'd scrap that completely and go based on news/events.
5  Economy / Economics / Re: Predicted Price of BTC on: March 13, 2014, 01:12:51 PM
So basically what I'm saying is that the figures for average error are based on predictions made both during stable time periods and volatile time periods. However, you are still right - it is true that this is much more accurate when the price is less volatile. When the price starts changing a lot, it could have larger errors in predictions. This is mostly the case when real-world events affect the price of bitcoin, since obviously there is no way the software can foresee something like mt gox getting hacked or china changing its policy on bitcoins.

Some real world events that swing prices are foreseeable to some degree.  It would be awesome if your bot could scan news articles and find patterns, example: find an article that was posted by atleast 5 different sources with a same or very similar title/keywords.  Then the bot would have to determine whether or not the news is good or bad, or the bot could alert you of the news and you'll tell the bot whether or not the news is good or bad.

Bitcoin is liberating the online poker world. I'm a poker player, live and online. Because I live in the United States I can't play on a big named site like PokerStars. Bitcoin and poker are match made in heaven because you can deposit and withdrawal faster than ever before. Passionate poker players who have in the past Waited weeks/months for a payout via check/western union/money laundered bank transfer know the true power of a bitcoin poker site is that the government can't tell me no. They can't tell me Im not allowed to deposit fiat currency to play. They can't tell me I can't withdraw my money into my bank. They can't force me to play in a state/government run poker system.

The classic "Send me money and I'll send you more money" is always a scam.

What email service do you use?  Can you check your login/logout histories or IP Addresses?  Gmail allows this, but I'm not sure about others.  Clearly this person had access to your email as well, to confirm the withdrawals.
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: selling keys on: February 26, 2014, 08:55:38 PM

Takes exactly 5 days for it to arrive pending in my account (US based)
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gox nonsense - Cold storage to hot wallet "leak" and buying gox.com? on: February 25, 2014, 02:57:13 PM
Bitcoin exchanges are literally THAT profitable that they want to just start back up just like that.  The fact that they had a leak/exploit to their cold storage says that they don't understand the definition of cold storage.  It is very sad.  It's possible someone on the inside of MtGox was responsible for leaking the cold storage wallets?
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CALL to all major exchanges, temporally waive trading fees, so we can recover on: February 25, 2014, 02:08:19 PM
Making all exchange's funds completely transparent in such a way that does not hinder security would do significantly more than lowering transaction fees.  Transaction fees are high as is (considering the ridiculous amount of money exchanges make in one day).  Lowering them won't permanently fix anything.  A united front, more stress on security & customer service, and transparency can.

Nothing will make the price go back up to 1K today.  Time will heal some wounds but unity and transparency will make Bitcoin stronger.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sorry BTC... on: February 15, 2014, 01:57:55 AM
but what is the plan??

Not sure about your investment, but there are many developers and many investors working on "plan"s right now.  They just aren't ready yet.  Time will reveal much more.
