I doubt the wood wrecked it.  Although I would never recommend doing something like that. (have built computers far longer than I have been involved with mining)

Any rattling noise is bad in a computer.  My thought is that the fan was defective.  If you spin the fan with your finger now while it is out of the computer it should spin freely and then kind of bounce a little as it comes to a stop.  Did you buy it used or new.  If its new and there is a receipt there should be no problem getting an exchange. Even if the fan seems fine I would still consider it defective. Any number of parts could have failed.  If you do bring it in...  please don't say you had a piece of wood supporting it.  they will blame that for sure.

By 360MH do you mean one of those little asic usb sticks?  if so then you will never make your money back mining Bitcoin.  the cost of electricity will be higher than what  you get from your miner.

AND...

You can NOT use a Bitcoin asic miner to mine altcoins.  Asic means application-specific integrated circuit.  meaning it SPECIFICALLY mines Bitcoin.

Give you an idea... My 3gpu mining set up which cost me about $1000 (not including the rest of the cool stuff I have for gaming) would earn me 32 cents a day.  And would take me 2820 days to make ONE bitcoin.  And that calculation is assuming the difficulty stays the same as it is today.  Which it will not.

Since I took my gaming pc and added gpus and didn't go with asic or anything I am sure you could specialize a bit and get a dedicated miner.  Maybe you can improve on that number.

Maybe you order a 50gh/s asic miner for $1000 and by some miracle get it tomorrow. You can make $15 a day. take 56 days to earn one bitcoin.  When will the difficulty jump?  Probably shortly after the the 28nm 600GH/s devices come out.  Then very quickly your $1000 investment turns into $100 when you sell it on ebay.

SO, do you risk it?  Spend the $1000 and hope it pays for itself.  Maybe just buy one Bitcoin for $900.  Some think it will double before the end of the year?  Maybe get a GPU setup and mine some altcoins.  Its a lot of fun. imo

I have no real advice.  Just a lot of invested money in an asic that is worthless in a short amount of time.  Likely you will make your money back.  But forget the dreams of getting rich quick.  You (and I) missed that boat.

Calculation done by coinwarz.com  btw

Ask your mom if she thinks that sounds like money...  Take her answer seriously.

My take on alt coins...

There are plenty of different fiat currencies out there.  Over the centuries many have come and gone.  The world has room for multiple valuable fiat currencies at once and it doesn't stop the US dollar from being valuable compared to the Yen on Euro.

Crypto is new and anything that brings recognition to it I think is a positive.  Vast majority of new coins are crap clones, but it sure is fun to speculate on them.

Since exchanges exist, they all have potential to be valuable, But I believe that only a small handful of them will come out with any real value by the time the dust settles.  Be it in 6 months...  a year?  I doubt 2 years.  Probably the day after Asic comes out for scrypt.

As for which will come out on top...  I will use the DAD TEST.  This test will include me calling my dad and asking if he would ever consider using something called "dogecoin" to buy something on the internet.  How about "Baconbits"? No?  ok.

Alt coins brought me here and opened my eyes to Bitcoin and I will now on be a supporter of it.

Also interested in this question.  If I have my wallet on my home pc, is it possible to mirror it on an android device.  Or do I need to backup, create new wallet on my phone, then stop using my pc wallet till I transfer the updated version of my phone wallet (assuming I used it and it now has a different total.
