1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ECC on: December 31, 2017, 12:53:22 AM
Thanks Griffith,

I downloaded the lynx/ecc app on a windows machine, copied my old mac wallet.dat into it and am currently synching.  I think that will work based on some posts I've read here.

Thanks again,
Daniel

Hello,

I have a lot of ecc that I mined years ago in an old macintosh qt wallet.  I can start it up but no nodes are found.  Any ideas/suggestiosn on how I can send these coins to an exchange like coinexchange.io?  I cannot find a current mac qt wallet for ecc coin.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Wow! I guess I should be dead now since I licked both of my hands and grabbed the + and - terminals of my 875 Amp 12v car battery, oh wait its DC just like the PSU pins.  Kiss
I double dog dare you to lick the two DC wires of a telephone cord. Post to youtube.

I was going to dare him to lick the car battery properly *, none of this "I licked my hands and touched it" crap but I don't want to be responsible for the results Tongue

* notwithstanding you'd need a very long tongue and would actually need to attach wires first.
The car battery really wouldn't be that much worse than a 9V battery. You could try it on a 12V power tool battery or a lantern battery, with the added benefit of not needing to stack three of Gene Simmons' tongues end to end.

You guys remind me of when I was in the navy on a nuclear submarine.  One of our jobs was to go into the battery compartment to check on the individual cells where you had to crawl over many batteries that had terminals about 8 inches apart.  To prevent shorts there was a rule that you could not go down there with any tool that was over 6 inches long.  Of course all of us navy guys claimed to have 'tools' longer than 6 inches..

I got my two ant miner S3's yesterday.  Batch 3.  They run ok, a little sporadically from high 300's to 450 Ghs.  Both stock clocks.

How do I tell what version of the firmware I have?  I've looked everywhere in the antminer control panel; must be missing something, but the current version on Bitmain's site is antMiner_S320140721.bin.  Is there an easy way to see if I already have that or should upgrade.  (I would like to get rid of the sporadic beeps every ten minutes or so!)

Thanks!

I was able to get the discarded amount lowered as well as the load. I changed the queue to 0 from 4096 and added --scan-time 1 --expiry 1 to the cgminer file.

***IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHAT THIS MEANS DO NOT TRY AS YOU WILL BRICK YOUR UNIT***

This is the first attempt, not sure if 0 is the optimal queue value for all pools but if you are a P2P miner you may want to try this out. I use a smaller pool and my numbers have gone up. This is along the same tune you could do for an S1 but a far cry from what we did in the GPU days. I have another unit running at a lower speed but have the same results.

SSH in then:
Code:
vim /etc/init.d/cgminer
--scan-time 1 --expiry 1

Find line 75 PARAMS...at the end change --queue 0 and add --scan-time 1 --expiry 1 before the quotation.

***DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND AS YOU WILL BRICK YOUR UNIT****

Before Config Change (I added a line so it is easy to see, I took it out when I finished)

After Config Change

Ant Before

Ant After CHECK THE LOAD VALUES

Hey Duce,

I'm browsing these threads while I wait on my 2 S3's (currently in Louisville.).
I've had an S1 for a couple months - works well but I notice it's discarded is pretty high.  (currenlty 21000 discarded and 31000 accepted.)
WIll your mod work for the S1 as well?  Couldn't find anything on the net about high discards on the S1.
In other words, adding  --queue 0 and add --scan-time 1 --expiry 1 be okay for S1?

Thanks!

Just an FYI,

I placed a batch 3 order, order placed on July 8 for two units.  I live on the east coast of the US.
Just got the myUPS email saying it would be delivered on Wednesday, 7/23. I released the orders for delivery without physical signature.
Crossing my fingers!

Noticed a change this morning (Saturday, east coast US).
The 'edit' disappeared  from my batch 3 order in view options.  Order placed 7/8.
If I remember from a week ago from other posts that is a good sign!

anyone has problems with dedicatedpool ? its lagging alot, loads very slowly, times out many times. is it just me or the pool is unstable ?

Last night (I'm US east coast time) the web would not respond, I could not see my progress.
However, my miners continued to work successfully all night while I was asleep and I received normal payouts.  Loooks like the front end was just overloaded.

Everyone mining 42 Coin with a Pool Service:

Please reply with the following requests:
A) What is the name of the 42 pool service you are mining on?
B) How long have you been mining with that specific pool?

1.  I've been mining at 42.dedicatedpool.com
2.  For about 4 or 5 days

Successfully, my has rate is low (670 khs), but regular blocks found and regular payouts at my pre-set threshold.  Very happy with this pool.

Maybe he is just too busy?

Still doing the giveaway.

I just haven't paid out the last few pages.

Earlier this evening, amid complaints of fraudulent withdrawals from many of our miners, we at Hackshard launched a full investigation into our databases, websites, and other software with the goal of identifying and eliminating the faulty code, hardware, or security. We discovered no fault in the cronjobs, databases, stratum servers, wallets, or any of the other various components of the Hackshard mining pools. While this did confirm that the Hackshard infrastructure was not at fault, our findings hinted at something perhaps even more worrisome. We found that several dozen miners had recently withdrawn to a single address: the same address as that which many of those claiming fraud had presented to us as having stolen their coins. Given the extreme unlikelihood of so many miners being host to the same keylogging virus, and given the complete lack of evidence that our own pools have been infiltrated by malicious agents, we have concluded that the issue could only have arisen from miners using identical login credentials with multiple pools. If this is the case, with a significant portion of our miners having been victims, we further conclude that only one with access to the database of a rather large pool could have been the thief. As such, we request that all miners who have been affected by this theft respond immediately with a full list of pools which they have recently used so that we may attempt to identify the malignant pool. We further request that all pool owners search their outgoing transactions for multiple usernames withdrawing to a few addresses.

We strongly urge everyone to use separate credentials on each and every pool he or she uses and to enable automatic payments.

All,

My career is in information security.  I am not affiliated with, nor have I mined at Hackshard's pool, but what this gentleman (or lady) states does make sense.  I urge you all to do as Hackshard recommends.  Many other people here on this forum have given the same or similar advice:

Use different login credentials for each pool you visit - even for different coins.
Use a complex password - not from the dictionary, not your cat's middle name, not your mom's maiden name.
AGAIN, Do NOT reuse passwords accross different systems.  Make your passwords are different for your mining accounts, your bank, your email etc. etc.  I know it's a pain in the ass, but it is doable.  Remember, the current recommendation is to write them down and put them in your (physical) wallet or purse.  It is a lot easier to lose your passwords on your computer than to have a thief break into your home and steal your wallet.  And, if your wallet is stolen, you will know about it and take action for your credit cards, driver license etc as well as your passwords. If a hacker steals your on-line password that is on your computer, you may not find out about it until he/she does a lot of damage.

Good luck and lets keep mining clean.

Which backup pool is now recommended?
I like the dedicatedpool but they were also offline and now they are online again, is ok now?

We were hit over and over and over by DDoSes.  My only guess is other people attack us because they are scared of dedicatedpool and what we stand for - honest - trustworthy, and for the miners.  We are the anti-scam pool.

We are up and running now and are working feverishly hard to mitigate all future attacks against us.  I personally haven't slept in like 30 hours because I've been upgrading our protection.

Thank you,

Ryan,

I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents (42?).
I found your pool, 42.dedicatedpool.com yesterday when the other pools I've been using went south.
Everything works flawlessly on your site, from your prompt updates to your timely payouts.  I also found the mobile version of your site on my iPhone today and have to say it is extremely well written and adapted to mobile!  It allowed me to keep up with the pool and my miner's status during some boring meetings today.

Thanks again for such an excellent pool.

wtf 42.dedicatedpool.com is a scam or what ? i started mining using there pool and after 8 hrs i have 0 balance  Huh

How much hash?

only 61 kh/s  Cry

Why would you come on a forum and slander someones name or business without just cause or doing a little research and educate yourself.....Huh?  naming someone a scammer  on just a whim doesn't fly around here and is extremely irresponsible.

Just an FYI.  Was looking for other pools since my 'old' ones were upwards of 14 hours with no block.   Signed up for 42.dedicatedpool.com about half hour ago.  Already two blocks found, I'm showing 0.00000014  forty-two at about 760 khs.

FWIW,
Daniel

Just so I'm sure, can't find a reference.

one dent = 1.0 E-6 42, correct?  or 0.000001 42?

Thanks!

Hendo,

Excellent article!  Good work.  I'm mining 42 with a virgin xfx r9 280, currently at 580 kHz, tweaking for the sweet spot of 710 (I hope). The card just came today and I replaced my 2 week R9 270x, which I had been using to mine '42 for the last 24 hours.  So I gots a little bit.

Anyway, love the concept of this coin, and your lecture which was referenced in the article.  Good stuff.  I'm just learning about 'coin in the last two months and I'm having a ball.  Too bad I have to go to work to pay the bills - this is a fun hobby (and I've counted computers/programming a hobby since the late 70's).

I love the smell of newly painted virgin GPU cards as they rise above 70C for the first time...

Keep up the good work.

dacoinminster:

I read your original post on paranoia.  Although you wrote it a few years ago it is wonderful.  I am the head of information security for a major facility and I wish I could ingrain some of your thoughts in my user community!  Very well done, sir (or madam).

I've been messing with computers, programming, information security and such since the last 70's.  I've just recently gotten into the crypto world after casually following bitcoin for the past few years (and I wish I'd started mining it back a few years ago!).  I turned my macbook pro into an impromptu miner (CPU) and picked up a few litecoin and dogecoin.  I got worried about my CPU temps peaking out at 100 C, especially since this is my primary tool for my hobby of publishing children's iOS software, which I 've been doing since the iPhone was released.  I did buy four bitcoin at $220 USD in November 2013 and am pleased at myself given the current price.  Smiley

So, off to the local store I headed, bought the cheapest windows tower I could find, a beefed up power supply, a high end video card and now I'm at 400 kHz, headed to 1Mhs hopefully when my next card comes in and I'm hooked!

Trying to learn as much as I can about this field, and realizing I may be profiting in the process (but not counting on that).

Looking forward to learning and having fun!

Daniel
