1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Blockchain Micropayments on: June 03, 2018, 09:18:10 PM
An unregulated, decentrally managed market, where most business interactions are expected to be one-off, means some trustless mechanism must be devised. Paying for consumption in real-time seems to be an efficient way of achieving trustlessness. Invoicing along these lines, however, means that any business dealing will generate a very high number of small amounts of transactions, so-called Micro Payments.

Micropayment has not been used historically because they are not financially viable. Although some companies, such as Pay2See or Digicash proposed some solutions for micropayment systems in the late 1990s, none of these platforms proved successful. One major issue with these proposals was interoperability: most of these systems were token-based, but there was never enough liquidity (due to low volumes to start with) to ensure that tokens from one company could be traded for tokens from another.

🔥🔥 Our premise at Bytes is that if near-instant micropayment is possible, then a number of new P2P markets will open. One such market is a secondary Internet Access market.  🔥🔥

2  Bitcoin / Project Development / bytes.io - 3 limitations of public wifi on: June 03, 2018, 06:28:53 PM
As of today, getting internet for free in public places, is far from easy. Especially if you are on the move, like me when I visit a new city for instance.

It is not too hard to set up a hotspot from your mobile so that your friend can roam though …. So what’s actually going on with the provision of the Internet on the fly?

First Issue: Fragmented Offering
There is first the issue that a mobile user has to constantly create accounts (or, at least, log on) to connect with the various providers’ services, because no harmonised offering exists.

Second Issue: Fixed Supply, Varying Demand
Second, "unfortunately the performance of Wi-Fi hotspots in crowded environments is extremely poor" (Wang et. al., 2016, p.1168). Due to the dramatic and correlated fluctuations in users’ demand, public hotspots suffer from heavy contention at peak hours.

Third Issue: If you are with O2 you are not Virgin
Commercial offerings have two extra limitations: 1. one needs to be associated with the offerer to use them. 2. they mostly rely on home routers for creating hotspots, which is ill-fitted for mobile users.
