1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is Lightning working? on: August 11, 2018, 09:18:29 AM
This article can get  you started with running your own lightening node.

https://medium.com/@stadicus/noobs-guide-to-%EF%B8%8F-lightning%EF%B8%8F-on-a-raspberry-pi-f0ab7525586e

To see if its running or not, i would advise that you set it up and see it for yourself.

Cheers..!
2  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How to find the best team for the job on: July 02, 2018, 01:56:53 PM
1) you would need to identify what are the roles that your project would need. This may include Tech Staff, support functions, sales, marketing etc.
2) Also, once you have a rough picture of what your project plan looks like, you can break it into milestones that you want to achieve. Put approximate dates.
3) Assuming that the project is well funded you can then prioritize building the team around your milestones, now that you know what you wish to do, by when, and with what kind of people.

You can then look at various hiring sites, post job openings on forms, etc.

Cheers, good luck.

thanks for your help.

At this point, any complementing idea that preserves user identity and data security is a great factor for my project. Would look at all of these options and check on how many of these would work into a DEX design.

Cheers

There are another project/BIP such as

MAST : https://bitcointechtalk.com/what-is-a-bitcoin-merklized-abstract-syntax-tree-mast-33fdf2da5e2f?source=collection_home---4------6----------------
Confidential Transaction : https://eprint.iacr.org/2015/1098.pdf
Mimblewimble : https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/mimblewimble-how-a-stripped-down-version-of-bitcoin-could-improve-privacy-fungibility-and-scalability-all-at-once-1471038001/

MAST might be ready few years, while 2 others might never implemented on Bitcoin. LN also can improve user's privacy even though i forget the details.
But if you really need privacy/anonymity, i suggest you to use private/fungible cryptocurrency such as Monero.

Yes, from the looks of it MimbleWimble is more likely to become a cryptocurrency in its own right, rather than becoming an integral part of Bitcoin as initially hoped for:
https://www.coindesk.com/magical-realism-mimblewimble-just-launched-first-testnet/

Regardless of that MimbleWimble has a very interesting approach at preserving privacy, so it's definitely a project worth keeping an eye on.

Come to think of it, there's also Bulletproofs:
https://www.coindesk.com/aim-fire-bulletproofs-breakthrough-privacy-blockchains/
https://eprint.iacr.org/2017/1066.pdf

As far as I know it's not quite clear yet whether these kind of transactions will actually become part of Bitcoin though.

Thanks, Will take a look at these as well.

The DEX that i plan to build has to be easy to use, without compromising on data security, user privacy and/or tracking.

Why do you need to use first layer solutions if you could just use decentralized exchanges? These exchanges does not require all the KYC/AML bullshit that the regulated exchanges enforce and you can trade without any problems.

Here is a list of some of the best decentralized exchanges that you can use : < I use Bisq with no problems,  it requires no name, email ID or verification.>

Even if you don't use centralized exchange/services, there are ways to track bitcoin users if the user isn't being careful.

Thanks.

I am trying to do some ground work into trying to create a new DEX . I have been using, following Bisq for a while now and feel that we need a solution that brings DEX to common users, and is easier to use. I do like the core architecture and the principles on which Bisq operates tough.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Let me take a look at these.

CoinJoin in conjunction with Schnorr signatures. At least as far as I'm aware of it, CoinJoin doesn't require any additional protocol layers on top of Bitcoin. Be aware that Schnorr signatures still seem to be a couple of years out though.

Greetings,

Given that most new users use Bitcoin/altcoin centralized exchanges, and as a result, have to give into the regulatory requirements that are imposed by the local governments on those exchanges by the means of KYC etc - Are there are first layer solutions that are in the works or any existing/proposed Bitcoin Improvement Proposals that solve for this user surveillance problem at the first layer itself?

I am a crypto entrepreneur who has some ideas on solving these on the first "application" layer (like wallets/exchanges etc), but want to understand if there are any existing projects or Bitcoin improvement proposals that aim to solve it "natively" within Bitcoin's first layer itself.

Cheers.
Gaurav
