So this thread has died on the vine. Pity, it was an excellent and informative thread.

Thanks Rick for your response

Have a look at this article:
http://bitcoinblogger.com/asrock-releases-bitcoin-mining-motherboard-1-year-late/

I can tell you I have completely reinstalled the OS, so I know there are no driver conflicts.  I've received no responses from people using a 7990, which is why I've posted in multiple groups - hoping to perhaps catch someone who in fact has.  That is why I'm posting to multiple groups - I'm hoping someone, somewhere has ran in to this problem.

In case you didn't know about the 7990, it's a beast.  It draws over 600W under full load (well under the capacity of the AX1200i I'm using), but look at the draw on the rail per connection.

I've only seen this board tested successfully with 270 and 280X's.  Which it has no problem with.  Yes I've seen people talk about having used it with R9 290s, but for how long and to what level of success?  You say you have multiple set ups with this - please share what they are.  Your knowledge of a successful set up may benefit me, that is, if you care to share.

I've replaced everything from the GPUs to the risers to the PSU and I am getting similar results.  I've even moved the circuit from a standard 120V 15A to a 20A circuit.  The only thing that has not been replaced is the motherboard.

So please do share some suggestions.  I prefer to work constructively.  You say that's not how power works.  Please help me understand how it does.

I don't consider myself you average noob w/r to stress and load on systems.  I would love to be educated constructively.  So please do feel free to fill in some areas I may try.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / H81 PRO BTC Display driver stopped working and has recovered on: February 12, 2014, 01:54:48 AM
I'm just checking in to see if anyone has had issues with this problem and their video card with this board.  I really consider this an awesome motherboard, well in intention.  But I am running in to Display driver stopped and has recovered problem.  If running from the 16x slot, the card runs stable.   I have plenty of power to it - an AX1200i, both molex power onboard slots are plugged in.

My card in particular is a 7990, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem when they know their configuration is good.

Here is my config:

Windows 8.1
8G ram
AX1200i PSU
XFX 7990

Your input is appreciated.

So how are people's testing with this board going?  Anyone put it through the ringers with 7990s or 4-6 290's or 290x's?  I really want to know how this board handles the higher powered boards with powered risers or even without.  My initial experiences with this board seem to indicate its not giving enough power over the 1x slots, even with powered risers.  Please feel free to prove me wrong.

My config:
Windows 8.1
XFX 7990 reference design
Powered riser in 1x slot = Display Driver stopped and has recovered problems
with card by itself in 16x slot = stable until you try to add another card - then Display Driver issues again.

I'm utterly disappointed with this board.  Maybe you have the information to make me happier?  LOL

How is your testing going?  I've had more problems with this motherboard.  I'm running a single 7990 and have to use the onboard 16x slot.  Even a powered riser in the 1x slot is not enough to keep things stable.

Someone wrote an article about how underpowered the 1x slots are on this board, even with the dual 4 pin molex extra power.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: H81 PRO BTC with ref design 7990 on: February 11, 2014, 07:44:27 PM
Interesting, I've never heard of a card that requires two risers.  No, the 7990 only has one.

I've tweaked the configuration to death in afterburner.  I can definitely run the card stable at half power, but I really shouldn't have to do that.  This board is sold as a mining board and was supposed to be built from ground up with crypto mining in mind.  I shouldn't have these types of issues.

BIOS is latest.  I'm beginning to wonder if testing against a 7990 was ever done.  The most successful testing I've seen is against lower power cards like the 270X and 280X.

Well, let me ask this another way - has anyone had intermittent Display driver stopped working and has recovered problems with this motherboard with any cards?

*BUMP*

Anyone?

Anyone using a reference design 7990 with their H81 PRO BTC?  Care to share you experiences?  I've had all kinds of Display Driver stopped working issues when trying to use the 1x slots with powered risers (or unpowered).  I could not push the card hard without having this problem.  I did manage to have the system stable for short periods - sometimes as long as a day or so, but then the display driver would almost always crash.

I've got a hefty enough Corsair AX1200i and a decent circuit supplying 120V.

I'm now running the card in the 16x slot and it appears to be holding steady at peak performance at 610 Watts (that seems pretty high to me - anyone else's suck that much juice?)

Anyone out there having the same problems with their 1x slots?

Please share your experiences!

I have some non-powered 16x to 16x risers if you are interested.  PM me.

I am seeing ATI driver crashes with a single 7990 on this board.  If I even put a moderate amount of load, it crashes. Anyone else seeing this?  I'm wondering if its the board or something else?  This is driving me a little crazy.
12  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: ANUBIS - a CGMINER Web Frontend on: January 27, 2014, 05:50:25 PM
Is it possible to have the MineNinja enhancements running without all of the BeagleBone code?  I'm really just looking for a nice clean interface integrated with Anubis that I can easily switch and prioritize pools and have more functionality control over the interface.  Anubis by itself doesn't give that.

If it is possible, could instructions be provided?  I don't want to use lighthttpd.

Thanks
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Hi All - new to bitcointalk - anyone monitoring their AMD cards? on: January 16, 2014, 06:09:33 PM
I mine many different types of coins.  I mine both scrypt and sha-256.  I've been having a lot of fun and learning a ton at the same time.  I'm very interested in integrating Nagios or SNMP with Windows with cgminer.  I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Here's to many more profitable days!

Cheers,
